Teach me the way of the trout! I’m in SE mi and have spent the last 2 summers in a cast on my dominant hand. I’m finally free and need to catch something other than bass 😅

Great video, thanks. I made it out last week in the kayak exploring a river system we just moved close to. Didn't catch much but the exploration is always fun.

In real clear creeks I have had good luck with a small green Johnson Beetle Spin with a black stripe. A lot of anglers use this lure for panfish only but it works well for trout and bass.

I think clear water is definitely an obstacle. Lower warner water as well is tough. The clear water will let the. See better obviously. I use fluoride carbon bumpers about a 6 ft bumper line and I tie a swivel on the end of it with another 1 or two foot flouro leader on it and I tie by spinners with a clinch knot and my spoons I and jugs I tie with a non slip loop knot keeping the loop as tight and small and close to the eye as possible. If I go with a spoon though I usually tie a snap to the other end or use a figure eight knot big enough to hitch it to the barrel swivel

Cool spot and video. I love trout fishing small streams/creeks for trout and am glad I stumbled across your channel. I just want to point out though, that viewers should be aware that in Michigan, fish guts are not supposed to be returned to the stream. I don't totally understand the reasoning for the prohibition as I know some states out west mandate the opposite because the fish remains help support the biomass. I just know in Michigan, it is essentially considered littering (page 11 of the Fishing Guide) and I wouldn't want anybody to get fined.

I wonder what the logic is behind this rule?
@PharmerDom3 жыл бұрын
@@themichiganangler4746 I honestly don't know. If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say it is probably just because it can be unsightly and smelly in high use areas. Whereas cleaning, even a limit of trout, on some backcountry stream would bother nobody and would probably even benefit the system, imagining the contents from all the dumpsters from every cleaning station from campgrounds along the Manistee or Betsie during salmon season being placed back in the water, doesn't make for a very appealing Pure Michigan commercial.

Fishing spinners for me is better if I actually walk with the current and reel up stream. Don't have to reel as fast to keep that blade rippin.

Trout opener in the morning! What type and size hook do you use with worms.
@themichiganangler47462 жыл бұрын
I’m not too picky about hook size when I’m worm fishing, I try to get the bait holder style though with the couple little barbs to keep the worm on as long as possible.

I think the bug hatch is a big factor. I have had trouble catching fish lately but the one I did keep I opened up the stomach to see what they were eating and it was full of winged bugs.

Hey bro I do believe in Michigan they cannot block off thank access even if they own the property they have to find some way of letting you fish there even if you have to walk with waders till you get to that spot they cannot block it with fences or any other way if they do you call the DNR they'll come out and cut down their fence
@themichiganangler47463 жыл бұрын
So I’m not positive on the law but I think it also has something to do with the length of the creek or if it’s large enough to run a canoe through it or something? I need to read up more on it.
@randybrady1218 Жыл бұрын
You get in at a road access, don't let me catch you on my property trying to get to the creek. You can't cut across someone's property to get to a creek.
@andyross26019 ай бұрын
Any navigable stream is public property. You can use the banks to get around hazards only....deep holes, down trees, brush, ect. Otherwise you need to be in the stream walking.

It does suck to hook a fish like that knowing the percentage of it dying is high. But we also have a percentage where we do t know if it will. And if it does it will feed the eco system. It will be eaten by something. But it does sucks
