@@MicroChemsExperiments thank you for sharing. Can we follow the solvent extraction with hexane in soxhlet apparatus after moisture content determination in coconut milk? We can use a single sample, let's say 10 grams of liquid milk. Use IR or Oven method to determine the moisture in liquid milk. By subtracting the moisture weight, we'll get total solids weight. Use total solids weight to run the soxhlet extraction and determine the fat content. Finally we'll also get the non-fat solids. @MicroChemsExperiments3 жыл бұрын
You can use this method for liquid and semi solid samples but not for volatile substance. Because, at high temperature sample will be removed with the removal of moisture. But if your test parameter is "Moisture & Volatile Substance", then you can follow this method for testing a volatile substance. Secondly, you can not use temperature higher than 133 degree Celsius. Otherwise the sample will burn out slightly, therefore loss of sample.

How did you get 0.08819 when if you subtract the 10.0323 and 8.876 is equals to 1.1563?

Brestney Tu-ayon, Thank you very much for your observations. It is a very simple calculation but we did a big mistake to do this and that's why we are extremely sorry. Please ignore it. Just use the equation for Moisture percent and do the calculation by yourself.

Is it suitable to use flour as a sample for this method?
@MicroChemsExperiments3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is suitable. You can use this method for flour.

is one measurement/determination is enough. Most of the time triplate is taken
@MicroChemsExperiments3 жыл бұрын
In AOAC official method, triplicate test is not said to be done. But you can do in test in triplicate to increase your confidence level on the test results.

Hi there I've also calculated it down and moisture content came to be about 88.5% and and total solids 11.5%
@MicroChemsExperiments4 жыл бұрын
Mohd Aamir Sultan Khan, we did a silly mistake in the calculation (In the subtraction part). The Moisture content for this test will be 11.52%. Please use the calculation given in the board, put the values and solve the equation. Thank you.
