I love how this is one of those rare clickers that actually has a purpose to the restart and grind up again process rather than it just being a time sink and/or a money printing process.

After finishing the game (i.e. unlocking everything there is to unlock at the time + getting a run with max lotuses + a full squad of ideal lvl43 rare heroes) I found it a bit repetitive and lackluster. Almost every reset, you unlock a new era, but the new era is virtually identical to the previous one, to a degree where it's even hard to remember whether you've been there before. Compare that to something like Realm Grinder, where different steps of the game might have hugely different best builds. MC has zero strategy. Now it's still mindless fun, which is why I finished it, but it's neither a brain teaser like RG, nor a smart commentary like CC or an actually complete game hiding as a clicker game like UPC. So in the end, the grind is all that's left - just perhaps a different kind of grind.

@@DrZaius3141Same conclusion, disappointing. I was so excited for this game. In the end every single era was just a reskin of the previous. It gets harder not because of the enemies, but because your armies get nerfed. Damage bonuses dont scale as well as stun bonuses, but stuns are countered by the fact that your armies get more expensive. It’s actually detrimental to upgrade. Although after ONE playthrough of ANY era, you usually have enough to upgrade that you wont struggle EVER again.

I'm a bit suprised that Jon missed at 42:05 that while the map said cannibals what actually came for him was labeled as Celts. I would have anticipated that as a rant trigger on Roman slander

Mammoths still being there in the classical age makes sense, as unlike in the real world, the civilization (i.e. Jon) had ignored them up until that point and not hunted them to extinction.
@mailleweaver
@mailleweaver Жыл бұрын
Yeah. Jon instead focused on murdering his neighbors to take their farmland, and the people who had to abandon their farms to hide from him in the mountains were eating each other out of starvation. He then hunted them down because cannibalism is wrong. Jon is a hero for saving the mammoths and ridding the world of cannibals.

I always love it when an incremental game gives real nice visual feedback to your progress and isn't just like a spreadsheet of numbers. I was 2 minutes into the video and bought the game already. I like clickers/incremental games in general and this one looks like a really really good one.

You know what's automating itself better than those clicks? That thing that causes Jon to say "you know" over and over! Up to 68 in a 50 minute video, a new record. As a side note, the Parthenon rant was just the kind of thing I should have been expecting. Good show! :)

I have a dumb correction for Jon: at 43:57 you said the Parthenon was not a fort, and "that's not what it's for." It was a fort! ...it just wasn't supposed to be. (I'm referring to the Ottomans using it as a defensive point on the acropolis and a magazine to store their gunpowder during the Morean War. That gunpowder, by the way, is the reason the Parthenon is currently a ruin.) In other words: If not fort, why fort-shaped?

Y'know, when he says the reason clickers don't really "click" for him I'm just thinking that if that's all they are, I agree. Thing is I really like incremental games but specifically the ones that add new mechanics and layers and different thresholds. That's what "does" the genre for me. Granted not all incremental games are clickers, but most clickers are incremental games.
