Wow, that's incredible! It’s amazing how your mom had such sharp instincts about Teflon and aluminum cookware long before most people even started questioning them. It must’ve taken a lot of conviction to stick to her beliefs, especially back then when those materials were being marketed as revolutionary. Sounds like she was ahead of her time-and you definitely benefited from her wisdom! It’s funny how science often catches up with what some people just seem to know intuitively.

Unfortunately, my first total jaw prosthesis was made out of Teflon and we wouldn't know how damaging it was. The Teflon pieces splintered off in our bodies and can never be removed. Thousands and thousands of people had this substance stuck inside with no way of removing it. The creator was advised not to use it but ignored all warnings and used it anyway. Of course we didn't learn this until years later. Sadly they never told anyone what material was being used. A few years later he fled America and went to Switzerland to evade lawsuits. Five years later, that prosthesis was finally removed but pieces of it are still in my body since the tiny pieces can't be taken out. My next prosthesis was different material but the damage had already been done. It's different metals but at least they don't splinter and remain in the body forever. They're not picked up on a metal detector either. Teflon was perhaps before its time but it should have been left to just cover a sled. We need to be more careful at what is put in people.

@ShazWag2 күн бұрын
One reason I buy the cheapest, iodised table salt is because it’s produced using the evaporation method and has been shown to contain significantly less micro- and nanoplastics than sea and rock salts. I also buy cosmetics like facial wash and shampoos that state “no microplastics”. I replaced all my plastic containers with glass and metal years ago, and I don't use plastic cutlery. If I get bottled water, it's from glass bottles and I leave at least an inch at the bottoms-since water from glass bottles were also found to contain microplastics, but less than in plastic ones. In the industry microplastics mean bead-like structures and dismisses fluid plastics. So when we see anythings with polymers in products (especially cosmetics and toiletries) that state “no microplastics”, they’re still likely to contain nanoplastics and do have fluid plastics. I agree, we can’t get away from the fact that we all have micro- and nanoplastics in our bodies, which damage our blood vessels and other organs over time. However, we can still do what we can to minimise it, as the damage is cumulative. ☠

Some of the things we have already done is: purchase an alkaline reverse osmosis filter system for under our sink (from Amazon) We also have slowly graduated to glass storage for leftovers and produce storage for the fridge. We stopped buying water in plastic bottles because even though they are room temp- to cool- on the store shelf, they have sat in a hot delivery truck before they ever got to the store. And finally- we just replaced our plastic spatulas with acacia wood utensils and recently heard (from a long time restaurant owner) about how to cook in a stainless steel pot without things sticking to the bottom- that was a revelation 🎉😂

They said the water had toxins in it and I would be more safe drinking just the tap water which they tested also. I now have a Culligan under the sink system which they claim is better, but I'm going to have that water tested by the health department as well. When water sits in those tanks it builds up bacteria so beware

If we fear plastics can cause cancer as our body does not know how to deal with it and this is known why is it used in hip replacement? Curious as I am having my second one done day after tomorrow and it will be the second one done since August. Ah, as I watched the remainder of the video I see you addressed this topic. thanks.

I embrace plastics, gluten, and forever chemicals. Life in the old days was unsanitary and had shorter life spans. I lived in those days with less plastic, sometimes in a log cabin. It stunk.

I think the take away is to not heat anything up in plastic and reduce in moderation. We will all have personal ways to reduce our plastic use,but I think it's here to stay for somethings like the medical field.

Yup. I read that all our work obtaining solar panels, wind power, etc means the oil companies have MORE petroleum and are working hard to use it in -- you guessed it - more plastic stuff! Don’t forget your warm, fuzzy fleece and polyester clothing. Every time we wash them, we leach more microplastic into our waterways, which ends up in the oceans, and all sea creatures including our seafood. Also we all love microfiber cloth to clean & dust with…

One thing is pills in blister packs, pill bottles, inhalers. You were young a lot after me. Pop bottles caps were lined with cork! That had prizes printed on the back of them, but it wasn’t always easy to get them removed without breaking them. 😊❤️🇨🇦

The pill bottles are less of an issue than the blister packs; as from my understanding softer plastics tend to leach more microplastics.If they eventually figure out how to chemically bond plastics to themselves; it will keep plastics from leaching microplastics, and hopefully end the health risks associated with it.

The doctor listed alternatives to plastic containers and straws like glass metal and wood but he didn't mention silicone straws. They are very durable and flexible. I keep one in my refillable water bottle that I carry with me whenever I leave home.

Silicone is made from petrochemical. So it's a kind of plastic too. 😢

@greycentre9017 silicone products are primarily made from silica which is also used to make glass. I did a quick Google search in petrochemicals are used to process silica into silicone what's silicone products are generally not deemed to be a health hazard the way Plastics are

I just think of all the microorganisms in that straw if not washed every day. yuk! Just drink from mouth piece easier to clean (disinfect or even sanitize

@@marymorisette9260 I do clean it by using the brush that came with the straws. When I'm eating at restaurants I could use that straw but I usually just drink by tipping the cup to my mouth as you describe.
