I read fast, but I definitely read faster when I like a book. The only exception to that is when I’m reading what that forces me to slow down because it makes me want to have conversations about it with whomever is around me or research.

Hi Cheryl, Do you read fiction faster than nonfiction? I definitely do, but like you, if I'm sharing, I slow down. I'm guilty of contstantly looking things up online/researching things. LOL I just finished a book that I could have read in a day, but I read it in three, because I kept looking up information.

Hi, hello and a what a check-in! I tried live commenting while watching, but I don't know what is going on with KZbin these days. On Chrome it'll play fine but when I try to type a comment out it will freeze up and delay the text making it impossible to type. Then on Firefox I have no problems typing anything out but it takes 20-30 seconds for a video to load if it even loads. Very frustrating! Anyway! Let's see how much I can remember of what I was gonna say. Oh and whatever you did for the video quality/brightness it does look really good today. I suppose I do technically set goals, but it's really only because Goodreads prompts it at the beginning of the year and is relentless about it until you put a number in there. I read every night in bed before falling asleep, so sometimes I can fly through a book and other times it'll take me weeks to read 200 pages lol. I set 50 this year as my goal and as of right now I've read 30 books and listened to 1 audiobook for a combined 31, so I should be on track to hitting 50 by the end of the year. And I agree with quality over quantity. I stopped paying attention to booktubers because at some point it just turns into fluffing up numbers to say that they read 15 or 25 or 30 books a month, but when they go to review the thing they have to pick the book up and read the summary straight from the back page to talk about it. That's not reading, that's just flipping pages around or listening to an audiobook at 2x speed so you can say you read 298 books last year. Anyway that's my rant I forgot what else I was gonna comment on but if it comes to me I'll post it below. Thanks again for sharing! And your teeth look fine btw

Thank you for the feedback on the lighting. It was bothering me and I had to figure it out. It didn't work so I had to find another avenue. Tech lately is such a nightmare and youtube sucks. Oh wow, I had no idea Goodreads harrassed people about setting a number goal. If I remember, next year I won't put one and see how bad they bully me. LOL What?! 😲 people's reviews of a book are reading the back? That's shocking? I try to give quick synopses of what I liked or didn't, or why I would recommend it. I tried doing individual book reviews because I've heard they do really well, but I don't know if that's true. I guess I'd know if I paid attention to the analytics. 🤣 Great job on the 31 books already. The clip at the end about my teeth was because we had just had lunch and I didn't want to brush my teeth. (I hate my toothpaste), but Prometheus had already clicked record. I thought, oh who cares, it'll be funny if I put it at the end. Thank you for your long comment. Sorry to hear you're having technical issues too. Doesn't google own youtube?

Ugh yeah and they've been getting in trouble for a while now for messing around with KZbin on other browsers besides their own Chrome But yeah maybe it's just a overreaction but when I watch a book reviewer or book channel I want opinions and reviews and stories and basically anything besides "well I read this, here's the summary verbatim from the book cover" lol

Yes, I set goals, and yes I'll be doing a midyear check-in. Like you, I'm not freaking out about it. I've also got a A to Z challenge in progress; one that I haven't mentioned on Booktube before. And there are other things. I agree that reading history is better than reading historical fiction, most of the time.

@@BookZealots In my comment that was deleted I explained... the A to Z challenge I'm participating in (on Goodreads) allows for a book to be counted for a letter if any word in the title begins with that letter, so for Z I read "The Quiet Zone." And for X I will be reading an Edith Wharton novella, "Xingu."

I think Rasputin deserted his family. He was a weird strange fellow. In pictures he’s just scary looking. I don’t like some historical fiction writers. Sharon Kay penman who sadly is not longer with us. Bernard Cornwell. Alison weir. Margaret George. Most of my books are biographies and memoirs. Some history. I use to suffer through and finish a book I didn’t like but now I dnf them. I have way too many books to spend time on one that doesn’t hold my interest. My goal is 50. I can’t believe it’s almost July. My momma always said the older you get the faster the time goes. It’s so true.

yes indeed Rasputin was strange. I'm not family with Sharon Kay Penman. I used to read Weir and George. Margaret George was one of my favorite authors. What do you not like about her writing? I didn't like her Nero books, but then I don't like Romans. Some people have a hard time dnf'ing. Can you believe it? My brother is one who doesn't dnf. I call it book stagnation.
