I'm SK woman in 30s. No matter who you ask in my circle of friends, almost all of my girls have experienced sexual harassment/sexual violence by korean men. Of course, I'm also a rape victim. Also, there are many women who have been sexually assaulted by relatives when we were teenagers. We've been talking about this issue for a very long time, uploading to the internet and organizing offline protests, but we despaired because NO ONE in this country listened to us. In my culture if you're a man caught doing these stuff word will be spread and good luck getting married and having a job, it's a social boycott ... Even if the man managed to move cities and start a "new leaf" and secure a job... There is no way he will be able to get married because it's a custom to ask about the past, job, health, family, the man's belief and how did he treat others like neighbours or family, basically ask about the man's life story when he proposes... If you give a slightest of darn about your female relative you'd inquire from a third party about these stuff so that she could consider him even as a possibility... I know about men who got rejected for the slightest of harmless things like not having a car or not having the same collage degree... Imagine being a creep and proposing to a woman in my culture😂 not to mention how unforgiven our society is when it comes to these things.. The unfortunate thing is that a creep's relatives might get cought in the fire of the social boycott and it would make life harder for them (I've heard stories) so there is that too...

How much sentence he got? 1 year 6 month. And surprisingly, this was rather harsher sentence compare to similar precedents. SK society is just problem. They do not care. Men are much more likely to commit SA than women. Black men are much more likely to commit violent crimes than white men. By your logic, since we should teach boys not to commit SA, we should also teach black boys not to commit violent crimes. Do you see your mistake? You're taking a certain statistic, and judging an entire group of people based on it. It doesn't matter if men are biologically different from women in a way that black men aren't from white men. If you tell the average man he's an assaulter just because he's a man, he's naturally going to be pissed, the same way a black man will be pissed if you call him a criminal for his skin. In the end, the creeps won't listen to the lesson, and you'll just alienate the regular boys from your cause. I think a better option would be to teach boys to look out for the girls in their life. That way, instead of one group living in fear of the other, we can have both working against the common enemy.

@takke98302 ай бұрын
It‘s just how they learn to react. Girls are taught from a young age to basically avoid being se*ualized and predatory men are treated like feral tigers that can‘t help but stalk and prey on them for survival. This is how you get these situations. I bet you that most of these women doing it were also victim blamed when they were younger so they internalize and throw the anger at the victims. Facing reality not only takes genuine questioning of traditions, but also the system as a whole. And especially with conservative attitudes of tradition being unquestioned, you get this perpetual cycle of blaming women for being harmed by men. It serves the men at the end of the day. And the men grew so entitled to this being socially blamed on women that they react to aggressively to feminists cause they cannot fathom actually being held accountable. It‘s like a spoiled child that always breaks dishware and then the mother is blamed for not securing it better and once the son starts to break some at a fair, and the woman selling them actually scolds him and makes him pay for it, he begins to throw a fit over it and starts to call all dishware sellers spoiled and evil for holding him accountable. It‘s just entitlement. They can‘t handle the consequences of their actions. Cause seemingly South Korea seems to put that reaponsibility on the girls the guys prey on. Wich sure is convenient for the guys doing it.

I am a Korean girl. Korea is a country where sex crimes and misogyny are really rampant. When getting a job at a big company, an interviewer asks a female job seeker, "Are you a feminist?" or "Do you have any plans for marriage and childbirth?" (On maternity leave, companies cannot afford to cover the number of employees, so women are disadvantaged when getting a job.) And because sex crimes occur every day, related news is not treated as unusual, so it doesn't even appear in the broadcast news. Today's news was that a 12-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a 25-year-old tutor, and the assailant was sentenced to only a year and a half in prison. 😡🤬 News of a girl in her 20s being killed by her boyfriend has been reported as a different case all week. Korean society is only talking about high child support and housing costs as to why the fertility rate is 0.68, but as a Korean woman in her 20s, I think that misogyny in Korea should be addressed first. Otherwise, we have no choice but to continue with the 4B movement.

It‘s a social and legal issue. Mysogynistic cultures line South korea blame these things in the female victims of these crimes to deflect blame. It was the same in the US and other western countries back when women were basically a slave class with no human rights at all. The thing is that these types of countries don‘t bother enforcing any jarsh laws cause they don‘t wanna upset the men doing it. It‘s a really crooked view that women are both evil seductress and simultaniously vilnerable prey while men are seen as starving wolves with no self control. That‘s how you also get these dudes who are so mad at the feminists there cause they hate the idea of having to own up to their own actions and also others of their gender. It‘s kinda like spoiling a child and then once he gets the smallest level of pushback he reacts with a fit over that and starts resenting the person for giving pushback. If you raise boys to act like this, to treat women like trophies to be hunted down and that you can do anything if a woman isn‘t making it hard enough for you to basically act on your „urges“ then ofc you‘re gonna turn all of those boys into rotten men. It‘s really sad in a way cause they could be good people if their society didn‘t raise them to be this terrible and dysfunctional.

Hey Steph, I wonder if you heard of the most recent SA case that is currently keeping France sleepless. The case involves a 72-year-old husband, Dominique Pélicot, accused of drugging his wife and inviting 51 men to rape her over ten years. The victim, Gisèle Pélicot, 72yo, had been losing hair and weight for years. She had started forgetting whole days, and sometimes appeared to be in dreamlike trances. Her children and friends even worried she had Alzheimer’s. Turns out, she was being drugged and repeatedly assaulted in her own home, while her husband (of 50 years!!!!) orchestrated these crimes. He was caught by coincidence when the police was investigating him for something else and checked his computer. He filmed everything!!! The other men also knew he was filming. One of them said something like "I had to behave because I was being filmed after all". One of them helped him when experimenting with the right dose of drugs to use. Obviously all of them are pleading innocent under various "excuses"! The victim insisted on a public trial against the opposition of the attorney and even the defence lawyers. She wants to bring awareness. The trial has not only brought the heinous nature of these acts to light but also sparked a national conversation about the urgency of addressing domestic violence and wether a wife's body is "property of the husband". You can find it under : Pélicot affair or Mazan affair

We were told that it made male teachers 'uncomfortable' being able to see colourful bras through out school shirts and that grown men outside of our school had called in to complain. And to top that victim blaming off, we were also told that "none of the boys find it attractive anyway, so dressing like that was pointless", when the people who are supposed to protect you say things like that it makes kids feel hopeless

From a young age, girls are often taught to feel ashamed, to avoid wearing revealing clothing, and to behave modestly. When indecent photos of a girl are exposed to the public, it is considered shameful and intolerable to society. That's not about teaching shame, I'd never want any of my kids to feel ashamed of themselves so long as they weren't hurting anyone. I genuinely believe modesty is a virtue and that dressing modestly can be a valuable tool for both men and women in getting people to see you first as a fellow human being and not as an object of desire.

@@kltil5082 that is not a hot take, that should be the norm. it may be worded creepily, but it is the truth. I am a girl with a brother who is only a year younger than me. I have been sexualized multiple times by his friends when he was in middle school and I was in high school. he told his friends to stop like a good brother. he is annoying, but I love him and I know he would never assault me or think of me sexually. that is how it should be, shouldn't it? do you think that people shouldn't feel comfortable around their siblings? do you think that people should worry that one day they might be assaulted by someone who lives with them, who shares their blood with them?

@Tessaxz It's simply incel culture. Women don't want them, so they torture and humiliate them. They have a deep rooted hatred for women that drives them. They hate women, but they still want their bodies!! Of course, it's not just incels. But it's a vast majority of them that do these things. Not to forget, they enable each other. Laws don't punish them. Politicians, the government, and even cops are all active participants. Women are not safe in South Korea.

I'm so conflicted. On one hand I love your videos. The way you tell stories is soothing and well articulated. On the other hand, the content is gut wrenching. It makes me sick to my stomach. I feel obligated to hear these peoples stories. To sympathize with the victims. But my god is it hard to listen to. There are some truly evil people out there... I hope these poor kids get the justice they deserve. I hope these psychopaths that victimized them do as well.

It’s kinda crazy how in Korea you can be sued for defamation “if it hurts one’s reputation” for the tiniest thing cause it’s a small country, but people (MEN let’s be real) be ruining reputations left and right while also actually ENDANGERING women & young girls and they are still getting away with no consequences…

No, the way korean media reacts to sa scandals is appalling. There tends to be little to no trending coverage for these cases. There was barely any for this until victims went to international news outlets, and last I checked, naver trends are only now showing ppl paying attention (but coverage is still sparse).

I live in Japan, it's just freakish how similar everything is in Japan. People have become so desensitized to misogyny and sexual violence against women that people are not even surprised or shocked. And believe me, it's not exactly "just a minority of sad, lowly men". There are men from all walks of life who are doing these very things.

@@zethayn Japan is the same as South Korea. They are both Hyper-Capitalist projects of the USA that America only was able to take control of by beating another nation in a war. Stagnating/ Regressing economy = Division of the working class. Its why racial tensions and sexism skyrocket under failing economies. South Korea is xenophobic and sexist, a sign of a stagnating economy, where GDP rises but living standards decline. Since human nature is whatever helps humans survive. If selfishness is beneficial, we develop selfish behaviors, if cooperation is beneficial, we develop cooperative behaviors. South Korea and Japan has created an environment where being sexist is more beneficial than otherwise. We either need to consciously manipulate the environmental conditions to force gender equality to develop (China & Marxist-Leninism) or continue to cannibalize our society through Reactive (Reactionary) rather than Proactive measures.

Something similar happened in Greece few years ago. There were leaked screenshots of men saying “I have a photo of my mum do you want it?”, “here’s my baby sister”.
