I loved the dance punk sound of their first single and b side it was a snapshot in time and even by the time of antidotes arriving they wanted to shake those shackles a little ok maybe aside from 2ST and French open . I liked how they evolved their sound we have seen glimpses of them in touch with their roots Blue Blood and Providence maybe . A few of their songs I feel could have been released in different better forms as well like Everytime ( check out the early version ), M&Bs , Night Swimmers and Crest of the wave which have really cool guitar parts. I like the direction of In Degrees and Wild Green and we may see something more like that in future albums . What is crank wave and who do I listen to get a glimpse?
@WiloPolis032 ай бұрын
@@aimeebaggins Person obsessed with crank wave here (crankhead? crank waver? idk lol) - crank wave is a recent movement in rock music that started around the late 2010s and is still pretty active today. At its core, it's a subgenre of indie rock and post-punk, but it's notably heavier and proggier than many indie and post-punk genres before it. One iconic feature of it is its distinguishable vocal style - known as "talk-singing", where the lead vocalist sings somewhere between melody, shouts, and spoken word (it occasionally can even sound like rapping). The instrumentation is usually raw and in-your-face, and often with complex layers and time signatures. There's a lot of math rock, post-rock, noise rock & hardcore influence. Despite often having such an extreme sound, crank wave bands are also coated in irony and usually don't take themselves too seriously. This is a genre run mostly by zoomers, after all. Here's some crank wave artists to check out: - Squid - shame - Viagra Boys - Fontaines DC - Geese - IDLES - black midi (though they moved more into progressive rock after their debut) And here's some pretty quality crank wave albums for you to check out: - Squid - O Monolith (sounds like a chaotic fever dream) - Fontaines DC - Dogrel (sounds like classic punk) - Geese - 3D Country (fusion of crank wave with country, of all things) - shame - Drunk Tank Pink (just a good representation of the genre generally) - Viagra Boys - Cave World (a freaking _hilarious_ and dance-y crank wave album) - black midi - Schlaggenheim (honestly this one's so nightmarish that I've never been able to finish it all the way through lol) - Fontaines DC - Skinty Fia (haven't actually listened to this one but I've heard it's good, very gothic) Hope any of that makes sense! Thank you for coming to my TED talk

I’ve been a music publicist for a couple of decades. I love your videos and how much I learn from them. You do such a great job of condensing so much information into bite-sized chunks. And I love the flow and editing. I actually worked with one of the bands in your video.

Great video! I used to host a radio show featuring these bands and even managed/directed vids for a few dance punk bands so this was a great trip down memory lane. Curious about The Killers omission, tho. Hot Fuss is unquestionably a dancepunk album, and in my opinion is the beginning of the end (despite it being my fave album of 2004 lol)

I just love the snippets of music. Wonderful you get to use clips without copyright. I've tried to upload videos with snippets and they always flag mine. In my opinion, Foals's best album is a tie between "Holy Fire" & "What Went Down." Awesome font and editing style with Adobe as well! Keep up the amazing work 💯😊

I will always say silent alarm is the best album of this subgenre. It just has so much energy, incredible riffs, song structures interesting lyricism with quirky cattchy vocals and the best drumming ive ever heard on an indie record. Its like they took everything from gang of four and did it even better with a modern coat of paint

Their first 2 albums are excellent to none, but goddamm did it hurt them losing Matt Tong on the drums. Till this day, I cant get into their newer stuff.

There where so many queer and black people in the disco scene so yeah punks where alongside this person doesn't know what they're talking about it racist that where against disco not punks .
@pascalroberto22767 ай бұрын
@@MistyMaize exactly, the whole take "disco was repetitive garbage" was clearly something from the racist right wing, which punk always has been strictly against. Of course "commercial" disco was garbage, but this poor form of disco was mostly made or produced by white people who didnt care about the richness of the real Disco music scene.
@pascalroberto22767 ай бұрын
@@MistyMaize exactly, the whole narrative "Disco is repetitive garbage" comes from the racist right wing of that era, which punk always has been against its ideology. Sure there was commercial disco that was trash, but it was made by people who wanted to make money, completely ignoring what the real Disco and its richness was about. You can qualify this commercial bullshit as if it was representative of the Disco.
@djnekroman7 ай бұрын
The anti-disco backlash was very much a response from mainstream rock radio (and general racism/homophobia), not the punks. The infamous "Disco Sucks" rally(/riot) was organized by a rock station DJ who was pissed that his station had changed format to disco/soul, IIRC. Friggin' Blondie put out a straight-up disco *banger* for crying out loud.

Honestly the indietronic and 2000s dance punk phases are so great, that I see them in other current projects resurging - Porter Robinsons new project direction and this new act that popped up end of last year called "Master Peace" that's channeling a lot of Franz Ferdinand and bloc party energy. Also how come this didn't even include the terms "electroclash", "sleaze" or "blog house"
