Just fixed the starter in my 86 Honda fourtrax 250 today, the gears were all chewed up. We have a parts quad of the same year and model, learned that the gears don't match up between, was quite a head scratcher till we figured out the issue. Works like a champ now, your video helped me alot, thank you for your service

I’m working on a old TRX 300 and I had to change out a old starter, after looking at it I was beginning to think Honda had a really bad design and the side cover would need to be removed, I’m thankful that you took the time to post this video! I've got to replace a starter on a trx200d, 1997 I think. Starter looks just like this one. I've got a shop manual, it's saying I have to remove the carb and cam chain tensioner. Do you know about that? Funny thing is also didn't tell me to remove that cover and gears like you did. I figured that should be removed. I've been holding off on this job because it looks complicated, but our over ATV just quit today so I've got to get this one fixed soon.

thanks for the video! This may have saved me a LOT of time! Quick question though, as I may not have to replace starter. When I press the start button, nothing happens. No clicks, no trying to turn over, nothing. So, I had to start it with the kick started. But, that is EXTREMELY hard to push down! I have to use my full body weight (I'm a big guy) and it sometimes doesn't budge. With this info, do you think I would need a new started?

@@MidNebraskaMotorsports Followed this video to a T and it worked GREAT! I've never done something like this before and it was a breeze! However, I still have the issue of the thing not running. Battery is good, no worries there. When I turn the key, the "neutral" light comes on (as it should) and when I press the start button, nothing happens. No click, no noise, no anything. BUT, the neutral light dims just slightly, like there is power surging. Could this be the solinoid? (I don't even know if I spelled that right! lol)

I replaced the solinoid and all worked great! Started right up! But after running it for a while, it wouldn't shut off! lol! I turned the key to off, but the starter would be trying to start the whole time. It was wanting to crank over, but no power was on. I had to unhook the battery to get it to stop. Any ideas?

try to jump the starter and if it don’t work then you may have spun a bearing in the starter

Where do the battery cables get hooked up to the starter I have pos and neg cables and not sure where they go

The hot(positive) cable goes on the terminal sticking out of the starter, and the ground(negative) connects somewhere to the base of the starter

fourtrax 350 ... ok.. looking at the top gears for the starter, they are all fine. but something down inside is grinding but not engaging. wtf? i cant find info ... could u give me some direction. ps . ive never been able to kik start this machine or push starting dont seem to wrk either.

My 86 is just like that, but it will kick start. it seems like the gear going inside the engine may be broken or loose. Did you figure it out?

I have a fourtrax 300 that won't start. Electric start keeps trying but never turns over. Kick starter has no compression. Did the same thing last time then it finally started with electric start, died after awhile and then kick starter had compression and restarted it with that.Any ideas?

Not a very good how to, you skipped 3 bolts. The 3 harder bolts to get to. Not everyone is gonna yank out the engine just to het to the starter.
