Definitely one of the more original "man struggles with dark trauma he's tried to forget" stories in a while. Really good job on building him as a character and making us sympathise with him in a way most indie horrors don't manage

I also like that he's not that likeable what he did to Noelle near the end is both a-holy and crepy, in fact, his extreme attachment to her is kind of creepy but after learning the twist I can't really blame him, speaking of twist, I also like that oposite The Nanny there is no supernatural twist and unlike all of the previous Midnight Scenes there is no supernatural elements at all

Couldn't agree more. In fact, this game stands out so much I barely recognized it belonged to the traumatized protagonist genre until you pointed it out. What a fantastic game, start to finish.

I really appreciate Chris's compassion on this subject. I'm just a bit in but... I have agoraphobia and this sort of hit hard. I'm getting better, like I leave my house I'm just struggling to leave by myself, but hearing Chris say how sad and depressing this guy's life is just sort of really hit home. Especially the wanting to try more but not being able to articulate why you can't to those around you, and the hating yourself for not being able to. Edit: finished it and poor Phil. I haven't empathized with a fictional character this much in a while. I see so many parallels, it's upsetting because the developer did such a damn good job here. So realistic and relatable. Fortunately my family didn't suffer an incident like this, but my initial agoraphobia was triggered by essentially my entire close family dying in rapid succession. It really takes a piece of you with them. Again though, Chris was amazing in this playthrough with his empathy and kindness. I can't imagine the typical let's player handles difficult intimate stories like this one with such tact and kindness.

Knowing the track record of previous episodes of Midnight Scenes . . . I don't think the next one's gonna be light-hearted. The dad was obviously abusive towards Piper. The mother wasn't helping either, as she let a lot of the dad's shit slide. Piper felt all alone at the end, but she didn't do the same to her brother. She must have loved him the most. Too bad she traumatized him in the worst way imaginable. The shadows were a perfect representation of his repressed memory as well. Two 3-eyed shadows and the third with a gaping mouth. Man, this was a real good one! Bittersweet ending, but at least he got out of there when he did.

I'm just starting to watch the video but wow, it hits a bit too close to home right away. I suffered from extreme agoraphobia for two years, I couldn't go out of my apartment at all. It wasn't sudden in my case but I slowly started to not being able to go to some places to not being able to go anywhere. At least I had access to all facilities I needed at home, got groceries delivered in front of my door, had enough savings, and had a support system in my family and my medical team. Everyday, I wanted to go out, see my friends, even just take a 5min walk.. but my brain would freeze and I would feel so much fear that I couldn't go out. I felt incredibly guilty to not be able to do something as "simple" as going out, some people didn't understand that it was an horrible and terrifying time for me, and that I wasn't just being lazy staying home all day. Nowadays, my symptoms have improved a lot, I can go outside for a few hours, though I'm often exhausted afterwards. Still I'm getting better and trying to celebrate all the little milestones. Some days are better than others, but you should never give up. Things can improve, things can change. If you're at the very bottom, all you can do is go up, so keep trying ❤️❤️
@2am_cinderella

Well... I'm kinda glad my agoraphobia wasn't caused by my sibling killing my family... I wasn't expecting the ending when I started to watch the video, wow ! I thought it was more about extreme depression or maybe mixed with cult (since religion was often mentioned) or supernatural stuff.

Its not often a game impresses me enough to want to know the writers, but this one did. Such a well written, well informed and well constructed storyline. I love how we saw Phil over the days losing his grip on reality, .. how he started to become dependant on Noelle, and how her crisis brought Phils own crisis to a head. There were some big 'issues' being dealt with here, and they were handled beautifully. I can see a lot of research went into this. Well done Devs. Also, as an introverted reclusive person, I want to give props to Chris and his handling of the commentary and the tone he created for this playthrough. Also, to my fellow Recluses and Agoraphobes, I truly believe every one of you are beautiful sensitive folk who are doing the best you can, and you will find your own pathways. Plus, we're all so good looking, we have to give the rest of the folk a chance, by staying in, out of the way...right.. ;) xx

This... was extremely good storytelling. The habits and varying degrees of loneliness of a hikikomori hit heavily (emotionally) and is actually very relatable to a lot of introverts (like me). Chris, thank you for your compassion. We can all feel it while you were playing this game.

What a story! The only thing I don't understand, though (Spoilers) . . . This looks like a small town where everybody knows each other. How has nobody noticed that a whole family just disappeared for a month? They stopped buying groceries, the driveway isn't getting cleared from snow (although it seems like it is, somehow), and they don't go to church anymore. (The parents seem very religious.)
@be3469
@be3469 Ай бұрын
Prior to them disappearing Piper broke her ex's bone and ran away from home, it wouldn't be super surprising for a family who cares about appearances/their pride to become scarce when they feel like they've got something shameful going on in the family. The people in the town also could have assumed they were getting groceries delivered to them or went to a different town to buy stuff or went on a vacation/visiting family to get away from the gossip leaving their son. Also, a month isn't too long, in places where it's cold some people stockpile goods/foods so they might have thought they just had things on hand. The pastor/priest also changed so he wouldn't know Phil's father was a regular and therefore wouldn't have checked in on them. Besides, people stop coming to church for all sorts of reasons, so the other parishioners probably figured something happened, but didn't want to intrude. As for the friends of the family... well maybe they didn't really have any friends, I wouldn't exactly call Phil's father pleasant.

Amazing that all this was done by only two persons. It's so impressive. And the story and the character build-up was so much better than all I witnessed in the latest AAA-titles. A further proof to my point that one person with a vision and passion can do so much more than a pack of 30 overpaid writers and consultants. Without indie devs gaming would - at least for me - a vast desert by now. So yeah, I guess I'll go along with the mantra and say: "Support your indie devs". That was hard to watch to be honest. At first I just thought Phil was more of an introvert than I was, but wow, that was brilliantly done, but so disturbing too. Yes, I actually watched Krinx TV played this last night and I got to say while I am a little disappointed that this game lacked much in gameplay compared to the other games. The story on the other hand really makes up for it, probably making it one of the best ones in the series. Think also the game really benefit from being the 5th in the series cause after the other 4 you form a bit of an expectation on what the story might be for this game and instead they throw you a curve ball. So yeah wish this was more gameplay, but story wise this was a really good one.

I would like to see these characters again - they were very well written imo. Maybe Phil can make his way to Chicago to help and be with Noelle. I liked how Brian was shown to be a decent guy (as well as being the love triangle antagonist) - since Noelle wouldn't tolerate a jerk. He's probably nicer than Phil (though not perfect). However, Phil and Noelle seem to be soul mates. Loved this one. And was jump scared by the bird! 😂

Wow... This required a second watch for me as I was completely floored by the ending and realized just how much foreshadowing and clues I had missed the 1st go around. This was one of the most well executed, albeit so unbelievably tragic games that unfortunately too many relate to in different degrees. Traumas shackle us no matter the severity and it is something we eventually have to face to be freed. Agoraphobia is really difficult to get around I know all too well...but just baby steps, it WILL get better.. The days you just cant, don't be mad at yourself for resorting to distractions and pacifiers..The days you can, dont overdo.. Its okay to not be okay.. just keep moving forward and eventually youll be where you need to be. 🖤

Great game and fantastic story! this dev is SO good at storytelling and foreshadowing. I wish I had some of their skills, despite not being the worst writer, its definitely not on that level. But I have a couple questions, well, maybe they're plotholes even... SPOILERS: How did no one realise that three people were missing for weeks though? They certainly realised Phil wasn't showing up anymore, so how come did no one check in after one whole month of parents and sister not showing up anywhere? Its established to be a tiny town where people know eachother. The Dad had a job I assume? It was also confirmed they went to church yet no one was missing them there either? There is one grocery store in town and no one wondered why the Mom wasn't buying groceries anymore? What about the sister? She must have been still in school. Judging by Noelle just turning 18 and I assume Phil being max 3 years older than her. Because if he was only 18 himself, and his sister is anywhere between 5-8 younger (judging by the flashback of him looking at the incubator) that would mean she was anywhere between 10 to 13 year when killing her parents. She seems to be at least around 16 or 17 though. Regardless, she'd definitely still be in school. Either way, still a great story and I DID NOT see that plottwist coming

I've suffered from SEVERE Agoraphobia for over 8 years. I also got got p00p end of the genetic stick.. Severe bipolar type 2(depressive), borderline personality from years of abvse(malignant narcissist mother), ADHD, among a laundry list of other officially diagnosed issues. I'll have to take meds until I pass. I'm only 28.. TLDR My severely abvsive mother physically ripped me out of my home many times, and even had cops do it. She'd abvse me until I snapped, then call 911 and play victim. The police trauma is honestly what did it. To be repeatedly ripped out of your home by police(The people that say they're supposed to keep you safe) who refused to ever listen to my side of the story, then driven to a mental facility. All while looking like "the bad guy" because I was abvsed to the point of a complete mental breakdown. So of course they'd believe a FAKE(MANIPULATION) crying mother VS a psychotic little girl who is out of her mind at that point. Nobody ever bothered to ask WHY or HOW I was pushed that far, though. Never. Not by police, not by anyone. It's a struggle. I've gotten better, I can go visit neighbors now. I still get physically sick to my stomach when I have to leave the property for groceries, therapy, psychiatry appointments for my meds, etc. I'm scared something will happen that'll prevent prevent from being able to come back to my safe space, my apartment.. I've been physically ripped away under the diaguise of a lie, and it scares me to think it could happen at any time. I know it's not logical to think "at any time", but that's how it feels. The fear and panic.. That's how it USED to be. Any afternoon could be the day I get ripped out and shipped off for a couple weeks, all because my "mother" took pleasure in my pain. I feel like a ruined person. A defective product. Destroyed. I already came out damaged(the bad mental health genetics), and my "mother" just ... Destroyed me even more.

I turned off the lights, laid down in bed, and then started the video. "Turn off the lights" How did you know?!?! Love the longer videos. I can either watch it one sitting or continue on throughout the day.

What an absolute masterpiece! Midnight Scenes seems to get better with every episode, but this one just knocks it all out of the park! I really do hope our young couple officially gets together after this. She actually told him she loves him and was willing to risk getting arrested just to make sure he was okay. Meanwhile, it's hard to imagine what it was like, having panic attacks when the ghosts of your parents are knocking at your subconscious. I'm just surprised nobody else wondered why the entire family had gone quiet if the parents were so religious. A month i a long tome to not see anyone, especially if the father was as antagonistic as was suggested. Of course, this JUST came out, so we have a long wait for the next episode. I doubt it could top this one, but no doubt it'll still be great. This series has yet to disappoint.

This game is just impressive, that plot twist at the end was unexpected. People hide their pain in silence indeed, may the day when pain and depression no longer exist would come earlier. And also, really sympathize with those kids with unwise parents, especially weak mother and an impatient father.

I would call the father more insensitive & selfish rather than impatient but yeah. The dad made me so angry & the mother was just disappointing but holy moley that ending....

Yaaaay another Midnight Scenes game! I always enjoy these~ I'm particularly loving the 'retro' style games Chris plays, which is funny cause I used to think I'd never find them entertaining and now they're my fave🤭 Edit: Just watched the whole thing and oh my......this one was rather depressing and disturbing and sad af 😮‍💨

This was fantastic. The story was great with a really unexpected twist, some great character writing and they did a good job of portraying someone with Phil's agoraphobia and such in a really respectful way, it'd be super easy to just make him come across like a joke or a loser but they don't do that. Plus Chris's empathy throughout is always nice to see.

The state Phil was in, I knew he had to have seen something terrible. I was expecting it to be only Piper who was dead, and I was trying to figure out how the pastor could've come for a visit with his mom if everything was in that state, but that was just another dream. What a harrowing ending and so well done. His father didn't cancel his bank account. He ran out of money. He didn't open the door for his mother's pancakes because there were no pancakes. I definitely need to check out the other episodes if this is what I can expect!

I really like the LPs of everyone's first 3 midnight scenes but From the Woods never clicked with me on anyone's LP. Maybe I'll try watching some LPs of it again. Maybe this time. Not saying how I know this but, that's like a day, two at most of pee bottles. No way 30 days. They have to be going out the window. Or to Mom & Dad. Also, go for wide mouth bottles like Gatorade or Pure Leaf (not sponsored). No xp in poop buckets so can't confirm.
