Love your videos! My daughter wanted a tree house, we have a lot of woods on our property we do not use. This has turned into now starting a design of an Ewok village with life size Star Wars characters and stuff for her to play around.

It’s amazing to know what they had to do to first make jabba. The amount of latex and having to build the largest oven for latex ever needed at the time. Now we can just 3D print it 😀 Im new to your channel and seeing this years after you posted it. This is amazing!!!

in the future you may wish to consider TIRE GLUE. its rubberized CA (bob smith sells it its BLACK) the rubber content makes it slightly less "brittle" so less likely to crack. another good idea is to use regular glue and FABRIC (get some cheap dollar store tshirts and slice them up) even hot glue with fabric across the interior seams will dramatically increase the strength of the structure as a whole.

I don't know if this has already been addressed but, slow your rapids down your jumping a belt tooth that's the reason for the offsets in your parts. The table is so heavy it can't stop fast enough and jumps a tooth.

Moving a giant Jabba would have been a challenge, agreed. I created a life size seal from a metal chicken wire frame covered with plaster of Paris and it weighed over 200 pounds, requiring a small wheel truck to move it around. I wonder how heavy this Jabba would be?

I have no clue about how readily available outside of Germany the stuff is, but here, I found that Uhu Allplast glue does a great job of sticking PLA pieces together if the gap is nicely small. It takes about half an hour to dry and will apparently even take much longer to fully bond, but is nicely easy in application and way easier to handle than Epoxy or Cyanoacrylic/Superglue. I also get the impression that it is stronger than Superglue.

To finish up the model you should use automotive filler primer or XTC-3D to reduce the visual layerlines!

I've been thinking of getting a 3d printer myself. But with budget issues replacement filament is my biggest worry. I've wondered about possibly making a heat tank with size extruder nozzle that could recycle scrap prints back into usable filament. Do you think that would work if done right.

I have seen it but there are lots of machines that you need and space to make the filament into the roll it would be a great project maybe make a video about it if you are serious. Also I would go for getting a printer I was frightened at first but when I got one it was one of the best things I have ever used! So go for it man.

There are machines for recycling filament, but the problem is generally that they aren't cost effective. Unless you're recycling huge amounts, you're probably going to spend way more on the equipment than you will save on wasted filament. And even with all of the failed prints I show in this video, it's not like I waste very much filament in reality.

I found a model called the Tronx P802MA. Is nearly the size of the CR10 used in thsi video which has 300mm print base. This model has a 220x220x240mm base. Its on sale for $185 as well, has grear reviews. Seems like a good first potentially high quality printer.

I could, and I've used those on some of my smaller designs. But editing 70+ pieces to add pins would take forever, and also the shell isn't really thick enough to accommodate pins. In the end, just gluing the pieces together seems to be working fine.

What are the final dimensions going to be? If you bring that thing to a convention, I can guarantee there were be slave leias all over it within minutes. I was one at Celebration and the Jabba seemed pretty big, but he was on the stage/platform too.

Roughly 6 feet tall and 10 feet long, I believe. The tail/body on the 3D model ended up being a bit small relative to the head, so the body may end up a bit shorter than it actually should be, but I think it's close enough!

Can all the wasted filament (used in unsuccessful prints) be recycled? I know nothing about 3d printing. I am concerned about the amount of waste plastic.

It is theoretically possible to recycle it in some ways but generally speaking it’s not cost effective to do that for most people. But the amount of waste is actually pretty small even for giant projects like mine. And PLA plastic is made from things like sugar cane, so it is renewable and biodegradable, so I don’t worry too much about waste, aside from the wasted money that it involves

Why the hell does no one add fitting tabs to spliced 3d prints. There's a reason models have always used them, so you don't have to eyeball the fit and end up with panel gaps.

Ideally, yes that is a good idea. And I've done similar things with much simpler projects. But editing 70+ models to add tabs is beyond me -- particularly since these shells are so thin.

I would suggest adding a few to the body to allow you to simply lower the head / torso onto the thing have it align up and give you the freedom to not have to glue it in place so you can remove it to be able to move the thing.
