@@jacobjohnstone2627 I felt the same way until the last ten minutes or so of the movie. When Dad pulls the trigger on Junior that was a great moment, it showed how truly soulless he was...but then this seasoned ruthless murderer not only struggles to incapacitate two children, they actually get the drop on him. Then these (again, kids) perfectly stage a suicide and no one is the wiser, with Little Jimmy blowing his own father's brains out. Easy peasy! I get that it's a movie but come on now
@grahamcrackerz17143 жыл бұрын
@@jacobjohnstone2627 @Jason Santiago Totally agree with Jason. Everything up until the ending was 10/10, then the ending ruins it. I can understand wanting to deny the audience the catharsis of seeing the killer brought to justice for a shock "the kid turns into a killer to protect his family!" twist. What I can't buy is the sidekick character who has spent her life trying to unmask her mother's killer suddenly deciding that none of the families of rape-torture-murder victims deserve closure. I extra can't buy that the police wouldn't easily be able to figure out what happened from the blunt force trauma wounds on the father and the cell phone data of his son being at the house of an attempted rape-murder victim. In my headcanon the kid and his sidekick get caught and are sentenced for murder 2 days later.

@Michel Houellebecq It has a humorous tone in the first half to satirize the impotence of the Korean police force who had never dealt with murders this severe (they even have to send a DNA sample to a U.S lab because they don't have the technology to do it themselves). But as the film goes on, the tone gets darker and by the time we're in the killers point of view contemplating the simplicity of raping and killing a 13 year old girl rather than fighting a grown woman, the humor is abandoned and we're left with the despair of human evil gone unpunished.

@Michel Houellebecq a lot of south korean thrillers throw in moments of slapstick, as real life isn't all dark and grim nor is it all fun and play. it took me a few views to finally accept it, but it's still worth sitting through for the overall storytelling - i saw the devil, the wailing, memories of murder. despite the silly moments, those films are willing to go darker than many hollywood movies are willing to go without losing their nerve

Please continue to do this series. It might not get the views for you that Avengers movies get you, I didn't want to watch until I saw the movie, but I never would have heard about this movie if it wasn't for this video. Also I totally agree with the Fincher references, but there was also some Lynch vibes too, especially "Blue Velvet" but without it taking place in Lynch's world.

Just got around to watching this and loved it, great acting by all involved. The son in particular did a great job.

Aw, man. If Mark Kermode showed up on one of RLM's programs out of nowhere, that would be amazing!
