I read a piece today about an Isreali woman who was risking everything to pick up Palestinian people who needed to attend doctor appointments and receive care for their conditions and her struggle. She laid it out pretty plainly. Her heart is torn for the deaths and injuries dealt to HER people. It was also torn by the deaths and injuries to innocent Palestinians. She refuses to give up and I pray for her safety. This is what answering the call of God is. She chooses love. She chooses humanity. And she is willing to die for it. NO greater love exists.

Someone who tries to use their religious testimony, as a vehicle to gain power, is not someone to be trusted. Especially, not by those, who have a different faith.

Even those whose faith is, in theory, the same have reason to distrust/mistrust Johnson and those like him, all because of their actions. While the man's faith may be genuine, his application of it pushes people away rather than inviting them in. Worst of all, he and those like him seem to be OK with that.

I think one of the things that alarms so many people about Mike Johnson is his mild mannered appearance. He seems so unassuming. And yet, and yet, he is associated with some of the most dangerous events and attitudes that have come to pass in the last few years. I remember a phrase, from the post-WWII era I believe - "the mediocrity of evil." Every book can't be judged by its cover. Mike Johnson can't be ignored because he's so ... modest. @nitanice, I'm also not religious, but I used to be a "Christian" because my parents were. I was disillusioned by churches that were not led by men of God and fell away. I actually found God by myself as I struggled through some difficult times, and one day, he spoke to me, as the good pastor described in this video. I was given a command, shook my head thinking I'd gone crazy, but he spoke to me again with the same command! My thoughts were very confused because I had been very suspicious of stories like this from the bible. But I obeyed and found out information about something that had JUST happened that I would not have known for several more months otherwise! When this channel showed up as a suggestion, I was also puzzled and almost dismissed it. But I now know that opportunities, suggestions, and whispers in my mind are sometimes other worldly messages I'm being given. My experiences lead me to believe in the good pastor and disbelieve the speaker as I think the first is absolutely genuine and the other is an obnoxious maga charlatan.

I heard Dan McClellan say something like this about the way we engage with and read the Bible: Are you reading the Bible as an instrument that will bring you into relationships with people, or are you reading the Bible in order to establish power over people? Mike Johnson and his ilk fall into the second group. Their "faith" is a club used to exert power over others, which is decidedly the antithesis of what Jesus taught.

The same type of thing happened to me. At a time when I was in a great deal of stress and anguish and anger I cried out “what am I going to do?!” And that quiet voice said “Come back to me”, and my spirit was immediately quieted. And then I got mad because I was enjoying my “woe is me-ness” and couldn’t anymore. God’s voice is always soft, quiet and very terse. There was also a time when I was at a red light and just before it turned green I heard the word “wait”, so I did. A group of kids came from behind me, racing on skate boards to go thru the intersection. If I hadn’t waited I would have run them over. The guy behind me was not pleased.

@@Larrymh07 Agree with both you and the OP. I would put it this way: People distrust testimony they perceive as SELF-SERVING. There are, I think, two levels at which that testimony can be self-serving. First, the testimony can oh so conveniently validate the testator's agenda, status, success, or whatever. Second, the testimony may imply that the testator has a closer relationship with God than they do. Rev. Ed's testimony illustrates the exact opposite of this, which gives it its credibility. When God told Rev. Ed that if He needed the church painted, He could do it Himself, I would understand that as saying, "Don't think you can do Me any favors; your relationship with Me is not about favors, so don't presume you know Me better than you do." The experience Rev. Ed describes in his testimony came in the wake of great loss, which makes me think of the Book of Job. When God finally spoke to Job out of the whirlwind, He essentially told Job, "Have you considered how little you know about this world? What makes you think you know what I do or should do?" Job got the message.

Something speaking to our heart, be it God, Providence, or whatever that leads us can make us grow and change in ways we never dreamed of! When we hear or feel led, it is usually best to heed it...

I understand you! When God speaks to you and like it's coming from your soul. It is unexplainable. I found my self speaking back when Iknow he feels my pain. "It's it's going to be okay Father". But that Him telling me, " it's going to be okay"❤

In my opinion, I believe you because you care about people and your belief and don't try to force others to believe/act your way. When I hear him, I hear a person that thinks he and those like him are right to MAKE others believe/act the way they want.

I understand exactly what you are saying. I, too, hear God. Sometimes it is a quiet voice. Sometimes it comes as chills down my spine that are so strong I am blinded for a few seconds -- this one is when I am called to do something. Sometimes it is a feeling of great love and expansion of the energy around my heart. Sometimes it is an animal that shows up in a very unusual and unexpected place, like a grasshopper that followed me around as I walked, waited for me to come back through a door I went through, and then followed me back, all the time keeping its attention riveted on me. Another time I opened my refrigerator and a grasshopper jumped out and then jumped back in, all the time moving very unlike it had been in a refrigerator for hours unable to move. If this sounds crazy, keep in mind that God has no need whatsoever for logic. God will speak to you in ways that maybe only you could understand. Your heart will know. Trust it.

Very true! Thank you also for sharing your past in NC. I moved to NC also. It’s so bad a feeling when the bottom drops out of a marriage. You obviously have come a long way since then. And you are correct, we do trust you. You are also correct that we don’t trust Johnson. Sometimes I try but struggle to understand how some seem to trust him? I wonder if at any point of my life I would have as I called myself a Republican for many years. I did at one point in time ask God to help me see the truth. Now the truth just seems so clear and obvious that it’s hard for me to understand how so many do not. I knew many months ago Trump wanted to be a dictator long before he actually said it. I know I should not worry about things of this earth but I worry on a daily basis that Trump could become the dictator he seeks to be. I know he has a legion of enablers that are so happy to help enable him. I keep hoping to see him go to jail but he keeps skirting the law. I believe he would loose the next election if it’s a fair one but will it be?

Why do I feel that Mike Johnson is not hearing the voice of God? I say this because I have experienced the kindness of God. I was once in a very difficult situation at the place where I was working and I was very uneasy and with the advice of my sister I turned to God through the words of Isaiah chapter 13th where He promised that He would help us and would not leave us alone. My problem was a new supervisor but shortly thereafter she was moved to another position in another city. I got on my knees and gave him my thanks and I often repeat the story. Many times I have turned to God and I always take my children’s hands and I always remember what He said: when two or more in My Name are gathered there in the midst I Am and whatsoever you ask in My Name it shall be granted unto you. I can name four occasions when what happened was so clearly from Him. And this brings me to your point: we don’t have to hear His voice but we know He is real, one of my pastors used to say “God is just like coke, he is the real thing”.

Thank you for the solid commentary, your videos are very informative. As an agnostic, I do have a thought about anyone’s “testimony”. What speaker Johnson hears as the voice of god, what you hear as the voice of god, what prophets (false or otherwise) hear as the voice of god, are merely your own thoughts/beliefs/convictions manifested into a morality judgment…

One of the many things I appreciate about Reverend Ed is his honest nature. I trust this take and hope that the ones who don't hear this message actually listen to it and understand why people are upset. That probably requires a person whom closed their mind to open it.

Those who know, know. I think of it as a silver thread of thought on the velvet surface of my mind that I ‘hear’ as not my own because it was never there before. I was raised by a man who considered himself an agnostic and a lapsed Catholic who embraced her husband’s world view. One time when I was wrestling with the possibility that there was a God because people in society were so sure, I yelled out something like: where were you when something horrible happened to mr? Quicker than my next moment the answer came: I was there. How do you think you survived? That still small voice is powerful. We’re listening brother.

Indeed. I don't trust Mike Johnson for a variety of reasons. Though, I've heard a good deal of testimony from folks of varying faiths and while their individual characters and traditions are factors, the impact of their message depends on what Spirit places in my heart (and mind). I trust and believe them wholeheartedly, but if quiet reflection and consideration of their message doesn't move me (if I don't feel it), then I'm happy to support them, and to chart my path according to my own inner, spiritual voice. I hope that we all do just that. We can accept the experiences of others while still trusting our own inner voices.

From my own experience, when you give your life to the Divine, really give it, really ask to support it in any way you can, it’s best to put your seat belt on because places in your life where you are amiss are going to go away. Marriages, friendships, habits, jobs, everything is on the table. Big changes occur which are often painful and confusing. Keep up the practices, hold to your faith, you come through it.

Rev. Ed, your testimony doesn’t alarm me because I trust you (I only know you through your videos). Your testimony diesn’t alarm me because it motivated you to do something personal. Mike Johnson’s testimony alarms me because I DO trust him to do what he says, and what his testimony prompts him to take power and control others.

Wow, thank you for your testimony. I have found that the Holy Spirit seems to suggest actions that are outside my comfort zone. When someone says they are being lead to do something it appears that something they WANT to do anyway, I am a bit suspicious. God leading us to power kicking and screaming ("No, please, ask something else!") is not the same as when the goal appears to be something that person wants anyway.

So many have tainted their testimony that it is hard to trust anyone. When they use their testimony to bolster twisted thinking and judging anyone who doesn't believe as they do, it is for me, the greatest possible missing of the mark. Same as when I do it. I am a minister, called as well, but if it wasn't for the ongoing calls on my life, I would be an atheist. I am only ministering when I am actually in a place of transparency and vulnerability. Then a powerful Love moves through my words and actions. The rest of the time I am just going through the motions and waiting to hear the voice again. I finally learned that most of my sermons were meant for me, and if others were inspired by them, that was a bonus.

But many do trust him because they honor those tainted connections. Those connection make him, in their eyes, a valuable leader. That is what saddens me. I can only live my life the best way I can and help and protect all those I can. It is not about me; it is about my fellow humans.
