I am 72. This song is without doubt one of the outstanding pieces of modern music ever written, produced and performed considering the restrictions in technology prevalent to the 1980's. It is hypnotic in it's repetition and beautifully backed with an understated rhythm. The extended version with I think 3 guitar riffs repeated stuns the senses. This guy was and is a giant of contemporary music which considering his catastrophic upbringing and early years supporting an alcoholic mother without most of the social skills enjoyed by most of us is a triumph of his spirit and humble humanity. Although no angel, he was undoubtedly gifted by a higher power to produce such spine tingling songs.

Graham's great comment on the subject reminds me that, probably, "Crime Of Passion" is perhaps one of the most impressive and masterfully crafted piece of a pop song. For me was the beautiful island in the middle of the eighties pop ocean. Mike Oldfield stated in his own biography that his difficult situation in his early days was what turbo-charged his music with that energy and quality. In fact, most of the greatest artists ever in human history were tormented people.

This Song makes me feel sad but at the same time happy and, in some way, peaceful... Furthermore, where I live, there once was a nowadays long forgotten Railway, which was taken down over 60 years ago, but you can still see some bridges or the little Hill of Gravel on which the Rails used to be. Even though I never saw this Railway in Action, I somehow, you could say, fell in love with it and wish nothing more than see it running once in my life. Every time I hear this song I get reminded of this beautiful Railway.

Barry Palmer sang on a few other Oldfield tracks and his singing is great. Crystal clear.
