Some commenters act like Joe Rogan exaggerates his fighting skills. I think he's usually pretty casual about it. He won a National Taekwondo point fighting competition, which regardless of what the clueless knowing-it-alls tell you, can get you knocked out, injured and can give you broken bones. He also won the Massachusetts State Full Contact Karate Championships, 4 years in a row. He's a legit second degree black belt in Taekwondo. He's a legit black belt in two different styles of BJJ, Gi and No Gi. It took him 16 years to get the first BJJ black belt. He's also a blue belt in Judo and he fought in a few amateur kick boxing fights. At 52 years old, he still kicks like a fucking mule. He could definitely fuck people up. He only quit competing, because he was worried about the cumulative damage of head injuries, when his sports efforts paid him exactly nothing. I'm not even a huge Joe Rogan fan, but unlike many KZbin, commenters, I don't think that Googling something for 5 minutes, before commenting about it, is a mind numbing chore.

I think it depends on what you do. IRRATIONAL fear drives you insane. But I think sometimes fear can be used. For example, for me when I'm racing, I'm always scared to death. But it makes me drive way better. While I am scared, I am a much better decision maker. I am an aggressive driver, but my fear allows me to control my urge to make big moves, even if they aren't there. This also applies to my fighting. My fear allows me to be more careful with shot placement and blocking, and knowing when to shoot in and when to lay back a little.

"You can't be in the right frame of mind and want to do this stuff" Mike Tyson is extremely insightful. I got into boxing after my mom developed paranoid schizophrenia and family dumped me in a horrible Foster home at age 7. When you're in survival mode and feel unloved you do insane things. Learning to defend yourself gives you security so you don't have to fight. When you are secure and have something to lose, it's very difficult, or at least it is for me, to have interest in fighting.

Judged an undercard in Vegas and Mike came into one of the hotels tiny bars. I was eating dinner with one of his friends and he came over and kicked it with us. Gem of a guy, he appreciated me not asking for a pic or autograph. Aside from his massive following and success in and out of the ring, we were just dudes shootin’ the shit talkin about everything else besides fighting. I’ll never forget that night..... ever

Tyson gave Rogan his moment, and Joe ate it up. I respect the background and I enjoyed listening to his story also. He’s very humble and knows his place in the fighting world. That’s why I trust his opinion on other fighters. He’s very down to earth and so is Tyson. Great interview. This was by far his best guest.

@Chief Sunnah you dont need to do all that if you have pro athlete money. As long as you know the value of money and dont do anything stupid 4 or 5 million could provide you a comfortable,well above average,care free lifestyle until the day you die easily
@gannibalof21st5 жыл бұрын
Yes you are right he lost so much money, but at the end of the day you can't expect a young man that's from nothing and being pulled everywhere to look at his accounts on a daily basis even with financial literacy. Very reason he had,and every athletes, have agents, cpa and finance managers. Guess who stole the most from them, the very people they hired and trusted, so it is catch 22. But Mike is still a multimillionaire with a huge ranch in California, and businesses.

I watch this video alot because of how sweet Mike is to Joe. He throws him the ball. And its so crazy, watching him be so humbled by someone who is a hero to him is really great to be able to watch. I'm a screenwriter from New Jerset and when I was 16 I met Kevin Smith. I remember so vividly the feeling I had when he told me he thought I was funny. That's how this rings to me. Its so clear that Joe appreciated this conversation.
