Something else I just noticed about the major circuit (though I'm certainly not the first) is how it's book-ended by a bullfighter and a bull: Don Flamenco and Bald, well, Bull respectively. Not just in their visual and textual characterization, but in their gameplay as well. I suppose this is to mirror the player's development through the circuit; going from knowing the rules of Punch-Out but still being a bit green and "bullheaded" to understanding that beating a foe is as much about knowledge as it is reflex... in other words, becoming the bull fighter themselves. Anyway, great video!

MAJOR CIRCUIT FIGHTERS: Don Flamenco - An easy fight, but it requires a very different way of thinking. I like that as an induction into the game's later stages. I probably find his other fights in the series more interesting, though. That said - his little taunt animation is ADORABLE. King Hippo - Look, folks, I love King Hippo. His oafish nature, his secret weakspot (what could it possibly be????), his being too chunky to get up after he's knocked down, his not being from any real place because even in a game of stereotypes Ninty didn't want to make him any country's spokesman... it's great. What more could you ask from a mid-boss? In terms of game relevance he's kind of a weird pull for Captain N as the de facto Punch-Out rep, but darn if he doesn't make for a perfect dumb brute. Also, it's not relevant to this game, but his Title Defense match is my favorite out of any of 'em in the Wii game. HE FIXED HIS WEAKSPOT, GUYS. PACK IT IN. HE'S UNSTOPPABLE. Great Tiger - Where'd he get the tiger pelt? Did he kill it? Did he kill it with his own fists??? Every Punch-Out seems to have at least one character who blatantly cheats - Dragon Chan with kickboxing, Hoy Quarlow with his staff, Aran Ryan with damn near everything he does. Great Tiger is probably the most outlandish with "actual magic", but I kinda like that. I appreciate that it's just Great Tiger, too - you'd lose something if the WVBA was chock full of magicians. I mean, clearly it's not all that effective, if Great Tiger isn't even halfway up the pecking order. Bald Bull - In a game full of Blutos, Bald Bull is the most Bluto. This means that if King Hippo is the archetypal midboss, Bald Bull is the archetypal endboss. And those Bull Charges inspire real fear too. I've been playing through the game along with these videos, and until this playthrough, Bald Bull was where I was walled. But I found courage (and, moreover, figured out the incredibly precise timing) and laid him out flat. If Bull Charge inspires real fear, figuring it out and completely turning the table on Bald Bull inspires real courage. Feels great.

Footwork is the most important thing in boxing, for both in-fighters and out-fighters. In-fighters have to dodge just as hard to get in as out-fighters have to in order to stay out. That's one thing a lot of fighting games don't really grasp in their rushdown characters, unfortunately.

I’m a year late but hopefully I can explain. ElectricalBeast is a very british LetsPlayer that was most known for his playthrough SM64. One of the reoccurring things he would do was have Mario use his “teleport” ability, and he would call it out like the special move of an anime character. The jolteon is due to the fact that he would introduce himself in every video as “Electrical Beast AKA The Jolteon of Let’s Plays”. Whatever that’s supposed to mean.

One of the tiny things that bugs me every time I watch this is 1:24, he shows Balrog as an example of an infighter and Dudley as an example of an outfighter, but anyone that plays Street Fighter should know their playstyles are kinda the opposite. Balrog uses lunging punches that extent his whole arm and intend to open up his opponent from a distance whereas Dudley has moves that play around his opponent like his duck punch, backward sway and a counter to allow him to continuously barrage them, he also literally has a move called “machine gun blow”

When I first played Punch Out, Great Tiger was my first real challenge since I didn’t know about blocking. I knew about the trick to counter the Honda Rush before it started, so up to Great Tiger I had no reason to block. Add that on top of the attack always knocking you out, and it made for a confusing challenge. Also, Bald Bull has one of the craziest tells for the window on the Bull Charge. Right before the window, a camera flashes in the right side of the ring, under the ropes. If you watch for it, you can nail the window every time.
