What an amazing machine. Wish we could still have such brilliant motorcycles being made. Honda was years ahead of everyone else, now, although Honda still offers awesome motorcycles, CT125, CRF300L, MONKEY/MSX... They also brought the CBR600RR back, but machines like the RC45 or RC51 are just on another level. Hope Honda also brings back a 4 cylinder small displacement engine as Kawasaki did. I want so much to be excited about what Honda and Suzuki have to offer as I was in the early 2000's, but it seems the Chinese are pulling the attention to themselves now. Let's see if in a few years there are still any kove or 450MT rolling. VOR, anyone seen one in the last 15 years? Thank you for sharing mate.

Would be interesting to put a set of RC45 crankcases next to a set of VFR800 pre VTEC cases and see how similar they are ( or aren't) ?

5th Gen VFR800fi 1998-2000 was a direct development from the 45 motor, hence it uses same crankcase casting as RC45 ... I believe RC45's used different cyl heads, Magnesium crankcases & side casings, titanium rods, 360 degree crank, stronger gearbox (more dogs), race kit uses single ring pistons, different throttle bodies, race kit offered secondary injectors, but it's basically same motor as a 5th Gen.

These are good engines he says, then going on to say its sized up. 😮 go figure

I hear what you're saying Nial, but what Neil means is they're great motors designed well and can be tuned. There's no accounting for what happens to them after delivery when the owners and riders get hold of them...

That motor spins up really fast ... I run a poor mans RC45 a 5th Gen 800, nearest I'll ever get to owning the real deal, mechanically they're very similar as the 5th Gen RC46 motor was a development from the RC45 motor, obviously an RC45 motor had a high production cost, spares are virtually non existent these days, prices are thru the roof, RC45 has one of the lowest production run numbers of any manufacturer ... no-one really knows how many were built, rumour has it around 200 worldwide, only mother Honda know the real numbers, they're keeping quiet. I love my RC46, short of a lottery win, it's as near as I'll ever get to a 45.
