The Best Bible Version May Depend on Your Education Level

These are my tips on Bible versions as well as where to read depending on what's going on in your life. Please share your recommendations in the comments as well!

This is just one question from a long interview I did for the moderators of the r/Bible subreddit. They asked their subreddit to send me a bunch of questions and I spent a lot of time preparing so that I would be able to offer the best answers I could. I'll be posting these answers as individual videos so keep an eye out for the rest in the set.

While I like the KJV I think it's harmful to be dogmatic about it and I encourage those who feel the need to denounce anyone who doesn't use the KJV to redirect your passion to the gospel of Christ and not Bible translations. The newer translations use a corrupt manuscript. There's no excuse for using those.

Having multiple Bibles is not a bad thing most people will recommend having a NIV/NLV for beginners as its good paraphrasing, ESV or NSAB for more Advanced understanding its a middle ground bible that has some literal and paraphrase, and KJV for closest to Original Literal meanings. Having one for each of the understanding levels will allow you to better understand things by comparing passages between them.

I’m so excited. I wanted to go buy the ESV and rushed to Walmart (only big store in my city 😢) and they didn’t have it. I ordered my Bible on Amazon and I’m restraining myself from reading the KJV until I get the ESV. Never in a million years did I think I would be so excited to read the Bible. God had opened my eyes. You can read both! :) Most scholars will tell you not to rely on any single translation. Some books are harder than others in KJV though. Psalms is beautiful in KJV and I highly recommend it if you ever want a change.

The ESV has its problems. John 3.16 for instance. Bibles are translated by men with preconceived Theology, Christology, creeds of men, and doctrines of men.

There’s also a second problem with starting there: I believe as Luther did about the Bible. That the 24 apostolic gospels are more authoritative than the 3 non-apostolic. Otherwise we have genuinely unresolvable direct contradiction. It’s easy to be absolutist, and I am absolutist about the 98% of NT that was part of the Bible 350 years after Christ ascended. And like Luther, I am in love with the other 2%. But life is sooooooo much easier (and more true) letting the truly canonical spirit-breathed books settled contradictions. For when it was written that “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”, it was referring to those 24 books “of gem and diamond”. When that was written, it was not referring to James and Jude for example. Not considered scripture by the apostles, not considered scripture when that verse was written, not considered scripture by the second century church fathers, not considered scripture by the third century church fathers, not considered scripture by the church fathers for most of the fourth century. Not considered entirely authoritative by Luther, and (just coincidentally?) the *only* sources of direct contradiction. Nonetheless considered by all to be Holy and wise and inspired. ---- Contradiction examples that were hence no issue for the apostles and early fathers and Luther (and lil ol me); 1. James 2.24 (You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.) *vs* Eph 2.8-9 (For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works..) How can anyone reconcile James 2.24 with sola fide? 2. Gal 3.28 (no greek nor jew in Christ) and many others *vs* Rev 11:1-2 (..I was told “Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, with its worshipers. But exclude the outer court; do not measure it, because it has been given to the Gentiles”) God’s going to separate the Christian jews in Heaven and give them the temple and altar? Sure. The rest of the Bible totally teaches that 🙄. 3. The long descriptions in Rev where God opens books and judges people entirely by their works *vs* Eph 2.8-9 again, and John 6.29, 6.44, 6.55; Heb 12.2, 1Cor 1.7-9; Rom 6.23. Beyond that, James (the works gospel) is the *only* book that is BOTH: 1. Non-apostolic and on Luthers list and 2. One of only four of 27 books that faced dispute because it was not in the canon of 170 AD. And then each disputed but finally included, but not until 363 AD. But Rev comes a close second as it was not scripture til a couple centuries after Christ and the apostles, 150 years after Jude and the apostolic books. Finally, we could exclude Hebrews from Luther’s list of non-apostolic because history has shown Paul did write it. That leaves only three (Jam, Rev, Jude). An honest study shows them to be profound and wise but not so clearly being directly of God in every word in the same way as the other 24, and the only places we find direct contradictions. In fact, on my word, I found issues in James and Revalation that gave me pause before I knew any of that.

The first book I ever read in the Bible was the Book of Joel lol. My mom told me to pick a book to read out of the Bible. I wanted to read that book, because I had a crush on a guy in school named Joel lol. Now that I'm an adult I can look back on this and laugh. At the time I had no idea what I was reading.

this isn’t just a philosophy, but it is the truth, and it’s reality. JESUS CHRIST is the Way and the Truth and the Life. (john 14:6). the LORD JESUS CHRIST came unto the earth in the likeness of man and HE took the lowly position of a bondservant (philippians 2:7), not to be served, but to serve, and to give HIS Life as a Ransom for many (matthew 20:28). we are not saved because of our own goodness/works, since no one is good (morally perfect), except One, that is, GOD (mark 10:18), but we are saved by the unmerited love and favor of the LORD through faith in HIM and what HE did for us alone (ephesians 2:4-5). every man is given all he needs to live a Godly life through the knowledge of the LORD (2 peter 1:3). each and every one of us must confess of our sins to the FATHER, we must repent (acts 20:21), and we must strive to live our lives all to the glory of GOD in every aspect (1 corinthians 10:31). if we confess our sins, GOD is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness (1 john 1:9). when you’re a new creation in CHRIST, old things pass away and all things become new (2 corinthians 5:17) and we receive the HOLY SPIRIT in our hearts as a seal and guarantee of what is to come (2 corinthians 1:22)! :D

adriana starr The Wycliffe was the Catholic Bible, translated from LATIN into English, not Hebrew & Greek, 1380 by St Jerome. The Tyndale follows the Latin translation of the Catholic version with Hebrew and Greek added. The Geneva and the KJV are translated from Hebrew and Greek into English, and the KJV is the only version in the world authorized by a King. All versions written after 1960 follow after the “Catholic translation”. Look for yourself!! The KJV does not follow the Catholic version. That is the difference in Bible versions. All Bible versions gives an instruction in Deut. 4:2 and Revelation 22:18, 19, not to add or remove from scripture. Deut. 4:2 says that ye may “keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you”. In Revelation 22:14 the Geneva and the KJV, last book and chapter of the Bible reads 14 Blessed are they that “do his commandments”, that they may have RIGHT to the “tree of life”, and may enter in through the gates into the city (New Jerusalem). In the Wycliffe “Catholic Version” and all versions published after 1960 (NIV, NASB, ESV, Message, Amplified, NLT, NRSV, TPT, NLV, etc,), with the exception of the NKJV have removed “do the commandments” and added “wash your robes”. Now following the Bible’s instruction you can do a process of elimination and find the true version of Gods Word. There are two choices, the Catholic version, beginning with the Wycliffe or the KJV. Psalms 12:6 The WORDS of the Lord are pure WORDS: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. 7 Thou shalt keep them (the Words), O Lord, thou shalt PRESERVED them (his Word) from THIS GENERATION FOR EVER. (KJV) Just for fun let’s look at the Catholic translation of Psalms 12:7 and compare to the KJV. Wycliffe: 12:7 Thou, Lord, shalt keep US; and thou shalt keep US from this generation [into] without end. (Thou, Lord, shalt keep us safe; yea, thou shalt keep us safe from this generation forever.) Notice how the Catholic versions have removed “words” and added “us”, the “keep us safe”, instead of “preserving Gods Words”, complexly twisting scripture! NIV: 12:7: You, Lord, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked, NASB: You, Lord, will keep them; You will protect him from this generation forever. ESV: 12:6 You, O Lord, will keep them; you will guard us from this generation forever. It gets better. Look at John 3:16 in the Catholic versions and compare to the KJV. KJV: John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave “his only begotten Son”, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Wycliffe: John 3:16 For God loved so the world [Forsooth God so loved the world], that he gave his one begotten Son, that each man that believeth in him perish not, but have everlasting life. Notice after 1960 the Catholic versions have removed “begotten”. NIV: John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. NASB: John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. ESV: John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Notice that ALL Catholic version have removed the word “begotten” which is a title of the Son of God? There are many sons of God, including angels, but there is “ONLY ONE “begotten Son”, which is Jesus Christ. That is why I read a KJV.

For feeling anxious, I always recommend the Psalms! It's my favorite place to go when my anxiety gets really out of hand. Job has also gotten me through some very hard times. I did a great study on it through She Reads Truth last year right before a very hard point in my life (pre-COVID).

Took 42 years to believe but I’m here now ❤️🙏🏼. I was gifted a bible by my local church Fr when I was enquiring. Started reading this ESV version. Then bought a study bible. I started from the beginning as I didn’t have a clue where to start. For me my faith only grows stronger the more I read. The more I read the more I want to go to church, the more I want to learn, the more I want to improve. I’ll get a different version after reading this one but I also want to get some study material after reading as well. Any advice on what I should look into learning more about will be greatly received and appreciated.

Part of being a Christian is being teachable for Discipleship. Certain teachings have influenced The Church and have lead to what is never intended. Nihilism and believing that God never Judged you based on the real accountability He teaches. (James 1-2)

Over 20 Modern translations leave out the second half of mark 16, they leave out the trinity verse, they leave out the only verse In the Bible in the book of Acts that tells you what you must do BEFORE you can be baptized, they make Jesus Christ a Liar by omitting the small word “yet” when Jesus tells his disciples I will not go to this feast. In king James he says I go not yet down to this feast. Don’t trust modern Bibles, do your research. Trust the King James.

@@thehood6067 You mean the KJV added uninspired verses that were not part of inspired scripture. Because the KJV translators used later manuscripts dedicated to the Pope. Manuscripts that had been tampered with. So we have the Catholic influence on the KJV. With mistranslations like Easter instead of Passover. Or Latin words like Lucifer taken from the Catholic Latin Vulgate. A word that means morning star or day star. Even the KJV had day star in the margin. Added verses like 1 John 5 v 7 Acts 8 v 37 not found in older more accurate manuscripts. The archaic English where so many words have changed meaning, making the KJV even more inaccurate. Thank God for better more accurate modern translations than the KJV. Never trust a KJV only cultist.

I started off with the NKJV and NASB, when I started reading the Bible. I like those translations a lot. I have the Geneva, The KJV, NLT (I like for just simple reading of Scriptures, I only recently got the ESV. Not really a fan of NIV. But I have, from the beginning, liked to compare versions. And what have I found? The Bible s all say the same thing, just sometimes worded differently without changing the message. And I study and listen to what others, known for their sound doctrine have to say. But more than anything, I ask God for guidance, and that really guides me. And I am learning Hebrew, ancient and modern. Even took a course on ancient Hebrew as set forth in the OT.

I really do like the ESV, but honestly the KJV is the only one that has the poetry quality that allows me to memorize the scripture. I'm not a KJV-only person at all, but there truly is something magical about the cadence and art of that translation. Highly memorable, so still one of my favorites!

They only reccomend the new versions cause they are anti Majority Text like Westscott and Hort. New versions use an entirely diffrent minority text that doesnt even agree among themselves much less the MT. It is a Catholic text. Compare them with the Vulgatr and Douay and see how closely they resemble each other

I'm not KJV only, but I prefer to read it, because some verses throw the reader off in other versions to the point that it's almost offensive to the ears. For example, every English speaker is familiar with "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." I understand the reason for other versions changing it, but I think they would be better off leaving it the same, and rather putting a footnote with the edit.

@@barryb3079 It's not like any theology is lost by changing it to one and only. Most kids and even many adults don't even know what "begotten" means. The only thing I think gets lost is the parallel between Psalm 2:7 and John 3:16, but that's just an invented parallel in English. There's no such parallel between the Hebrew and Greek. In fact, the word translated as begotten usually just means "one of a kind" or "unique" in Greek.

@@litigioussociety4249 begotten tells me one thing that the others do not. Jesus is literally what God is, just as my begotten children are my flesh. If that means little to most Christians then Satan has you right where he wants you to be. Begotten is the word God put there through divine intervention because it expresses exact who Jesus really is, according to the profiteers who change it every few years so they can get a new copyright God has no other son not even us.

I grew up using NKJV and ESV, but I always liked the NLT version best and I never understood why I kept coming back to that translation. Flash forward a decade later, and I became an ESL teacher. I came to find that the NLT is the best one to use with ESL students! :)

I love the King Jame’s version. It didn’t make sense before but since coming to Christ, it speaks to me in a way that it can only be from God. I pray before I read and ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten me.

Peace be unto you Sister. 100 years ago your great great grand parents probably picked up the KJV. Millions upon millions of soldiers that died in the battlefields of WW1 AND WW2 held the KJV. The words of JESUS CHRIST are now being diluted to suit the modern age. Do not be led astray. You cannot dilute the word of GOD. Peace be unto you and your whole family.

Wow! I came out of the occult before I got saved. I couldn't even say the Name of Jesus Christ without getting chills, and not the good ones. It was a long process. And I LOVED the book of Romans! That book just helped me so much, to get to know what it's all about. So spot on! But here you also see that the Holy Spirit helps.

Love this topic. I went backwards from NASB and ESV to the New Living Translation. While NASB and ESV are taught from my churches pulpit and are more literal, they just feel “choppy” to my brain. The words don’t flow and i find myself not wanting to read. Got a brand new NLT and I’m really liking it. ❤️🇺🇸🌵

I grew up with the Good News Bible in the 80s, then my church moved to NIV, which read through high school. In college, I joined a church which really encouraged a literal read of the bible and NASB was the ideal for that kind of exploration. I actually have collected more translations which have helped my daily reading and my deeper study: The Amplified Bible, King James, and Spirit Filled Bible are interesting resources. I have not really explored The Living Bible or ESV much, I might change one of my apps to those translations for some more study.

Overcoming your own guilt or actually grieving over your sins once you recognize and accept God's grace such a humbling experience. Nothing more freeing and also set you up for a lifetime devotion to God. In my journey, the more times you read the Bible and commentaries the greater your understanding will be of God's overall plan in history. Repentance is not just an intellectual ascension, but also an emotional awakening and moral renewal. My opinion is,and it’s just my opinion as I’m not an educated man,is start with a solid translation you can grasp the meaning of as long as it’s not the NWT or something off the wall.First church I went to was KJV only and the preacher himself couldn’t pronounce all the words right then he’d stop and tell you his interpretation of what it meant and you just hoped he was right.The first time I read the NLT it was like a light came on and it made sense.I know people will argue all day over versions.What if you go to court and your life is on the line and you don’t speak the language,does the interpreter translate word for word or interpret in a way where you understand in your language what’s being said or asked?Start with the easy and move up.I believe every major translation says Jesus is God in the flesh who came to save a lost and dying world.Thanks for the videos.

I've found NASB and ESV study bibles (Zondervan, Gospel Transformation) useful for personal study. A previous church I attended used NKJV from the pulpit, so I became familiar with it. The church I attend now uses NRSV, so I'm becoming familiar with that as well. I've read the NLT and NIV, but found they go a bit too far beyond the straight text for my taste. I just thank the Lord we have so many choices, unlike believers in the past who had access to very little, much of it not even in their vernacular.

When there are multiple explanations for a scripture's meaning, they give all the choices and leave it up to the reader. They produce the NASB, which attempts formal equivalence in translation.

For me, the idea of a secular publishing company like Harper Collins owning and making money from a company that focuses on Christian scholarship and resources is not a problem, unless reputable Christian scholars begin calling into question Zondervan's respect for the Bible itself. Fortunately, Zondervan has a very good reputation with evangelical scholars of all stripes, and with pastors who use its products. As I mentioned, I like the evenhanded approach in its study Bibles. I also have their exhaustive NASB concordance with definitions for Hebrew and Greek words.

The Gospel of John is very theological and I believe he wrote it as a supplement to the other Gospels as there is little overlap with the Synoptics. I vote for the Gospel according to Matthew it topically.

I'm happy with what I got, and feel right about the one I got. NIV. So far I've read the gospel of John and half of genesis.

I was in the same boat as you were. When I was younger, I was always told that the KJV was the best, and I actually felt guilty at first for reading the NIV because of the apparent stigma against it. But now I am glad I chose the NIV for my primary translation (and NASB as my secondary in case I have questions about translations). P.S. The gospel of John is great; you made a good choice for your first gospel to read out of the NIV. John is probably my favorite of the gospels.

When I recommend versions for people starting to read Scripture for the first time, I don't put it out there as a version for ease of use or to understand in modern language. I completely agree with Mike on Bible versions. Start with easy and work into more difficult translations. I will say the KJV is the English Protestant Bible the vast majority of theology came from so I highly recommend the kjv, especially for Daniel and Revelation studies. I use the KJV mostly, but I am not against other translations. I own an NASB and enjoy reading it.

Dan Tombs The Wycliffe was the Catholic Bible, translated from LATIN into English, not Hebrew & Greek, 1380 by St Jerome. The Tyndale follows the Latin translation of the Catholic version with Hebrew and Greek added. The Geneva and the KJV are translated from Hebrew and Greek into English, and the KJV is the only version in the world authorized by a King. All versions written after 1960 follow after the “Catholic translation”. Look for yourself!! The KJV does not follow the Catholic version. That is the difference in Bible versions. All Bible versions gives an instruction in Deut. 4:2 and Revelation 22:18, 19, not to add or remove from scripture. Deut. 4:2 says that ye may “keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you”. In Revelation 22:14 the Geneva and the KJV, last book and chapter of the Bible reads 14 Blessed are they that “do his commandments”, that they may have RIGHT to the “tree of life”, and may enter in through the gates into the city (New Jerusalem). In the Wycliffe “Catholic Version” and all versions published after 1960 (NIV, NASB, ESV, Message, Amplified, NLT, NRSV, TPT, NLV, etc,), with the exception of the NKJV have removed “do the commandments” and added “wash your robes”. Now following the Bible’s instruction you can do a process of elimination and find the true version of Gods Word. There are two choices, the Catholic version, beginning with the Wycliffe or the KJV. Psalms 12:6 The WORDS of the Lord are pure WORDS: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. 7 Thou shalt keep them (the Words), O Lord, thou shalt PRESERVED them (his Word) from THIS GENERATION FOR EVER. (KJV) Just for fun let’s look at the Catholic translation of Psalms 12:7 and compare to the KJV. Wycliffe: 12:7 Thou, Lord, shalt keep US; and thou shalt keep US from this generation [into] without end. (Thou, Lord, shalt keep us safe; yea, thou shalt keep us safe from this generation forever.) Notice how the Catholic versions have removed “words” and added “us”, the “keep us safe”, instead of “preserving Gods Words”, complexly twisting scripture! NIV: 12:7: You, Lord, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked, NASB: You, Lord, will keep them; You will protect him from this generation forever. ESV: 12:6 You, O Lord, will keep them; you will guard us from this generation forever. It gets better. Look at John 3:16 in the Catholic versions and compare to the KJV. KJV: John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave “his only begotten Son”, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Wycliffe: John 3:16 For God loved so the world [Forsooth God so loved the world], that he gave his one begotten Son, that each man that believeth in him perish not, but have everlasting life. Notice after 1960 the Catholic versions have removed “begotten”. NIV: John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. NASB: John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. ESV: John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Notice that ALL Catholic version have removed the word “begotten” which is a title of the Son of God? There are many sons of God, including angels, but there is “ONLY ONE “begotten Son”, which is Jesus Christ. That is why I read a KJV.

Matching reading and comprehension levels is most important. I love the KJV and use the context of unfamiliar words to work out their meaning. For example it is obvious that Elijah on Mt Carmel where word “halt” does not mean “stop” like a “halt” on a railway line. Over simplified texts that limit the vocabulary are not so memorable, as less unique words are used. Poetical writing is easier to memorise!

Mike, actually the early Church did preach from the Old testament. This is from my Acts study notes: Preacher: STEPHEN Congregation: Sanhedrin Sermon: Overview of Old Testament history Text: Acts 7:1-60 Preacher: PAUL Congregation: Synagogue at Antioch Sermon: Fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy in Jesus Text: Acts 13:16-41 And as far as somebody wanted to get right with God but feeling bad of all their past, I wouldn't recommend Jeremiah! That's God proclaiming judgment on the people. I would recommend Jonah chapter 2! Jonah said a prayer while in the belly of a fish and praised God of how he was saved and that God still remembered him. That's the book I would read!

I currently use the ESV, but I was born again under the preaching of the KJV. I consider the KJV to be one of history's greatest accomplishments. If there were no other translations available we'd do just fine without them.

The first time I read the entire Bible, it was the NKJV. At the time, I didn't know that there were different translations, but I did notice that some Bible's were in old English while others sounded more modern 😅 And I had to start "In the beginning" and read my way through

I put up here that had links to obvious frauds from Codex a and B. But I’ll just give you a small rundown. Kodex, a was written by Constantine Simodities in the 1800s. Tischendorf would not beat him on the subject because he knew he was an error. The other thing is he made a drastic mistake the first five or so pages that he brought back were pure white. They look like new manuscripts. Mistake was caught so he use coffee and lemon juice to die the remaining to make them look old in ancient Cover B, which was found iin the Vatican, has artistic capital letters, reminiscent of the medieval era. Surprisingly, it is from the medieval era. That piece of trash. I wouldn’t even wipe my arse with it. So both of the old are more reliable, help feed the modern textual critic. I will be out of work completely if it wasn’t for those two modern hoaxes.

Thank you!!! Was just considering another run at the Bible. With a level of ADHD and not on Adderall 😉, it’s a challenge. I really need to listen vs read. And yes having worked in post abortion reconciliation ministry it was incredibly frustrating to start in the old testament instead of starting with the gospel we would lose so many women trying to convict them of their sin first before giving them the good news of the gospel. Because they showed up for that ministry they were already painfully aware of their sin for sometimes a decade or more. Breaking down where to start based on your individual struggle is awesome!!!! Thank you Mike! I hope anyone working in this type of ministry of bringing the Bible to the broken will build a study based on this advice being given. The order of presentation can make all the difference in the world! God’s mercy abounds to a repentant soul. Such incredible good news ❤️❤️❤️. So... for those with ADHD it can be easy to get distracted by details (leaves, squirrels) and totally miss the story (Forrest), I personally love how Mike presents his Bible studies because he meets my need for the details but then he is always taking me back to the point of the story (the reason the details are there). 👍

One of the first things I did as a newly elected Elder in 1973 was fire King James and officially adopt the NASB. This was before NIV or ESV existed. End result was we grew from one of the smallest college fellowships on the Illinois State University campus to the largest in 9 months. Attendance hit 2,400 by January 1974. During the 72-73 school year average attendance had been 10 or 15 each week. Attendance peaked at 12,000 in October of 1975.

I got an NIV study Bible when I was 16 (I asked for it as my Christmas present and got it!). I studied it to pieces and got a second one...it's really all I've read...I had a "The Way" Bible as a kid. When I look up verses online--Bible Gateway--I read a few different translations, but the verses I have memorized over the years have been NIV versions, and I am used to those. I will definitely check out the ESV and NASB versions of verses I look up online, though!

Salvation is the priority, you can be saved without ever reading the Bible. Growth as a Christian however is absolutely impossible without daily scripture reading. I started with the NIV, went to the NLT then ESV, but with the Lord God as my witness, it wasn’t until I gobbled up the KJV did my spiritual discernment, understanding of Christ and relationship with God become elevated. First time bible readers: all gospels are good but John is key, understand who Jesus is as the deity. Then Acts and finally Romans. Then read the entire NT. Let God lead you. Finally start in genesis and read to revelation every year at least with weekly studies. Watch you life change ;). Praise God.

@@moxiefluffenutter Brother, if you read Romans 10 it actually affirms you do not need scripture for salvation but a belief in Christ to be saved. Read verse 16... “But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?” Romans 10:16 verse 17 is for the people who would not accept the Gospel outright. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:9 I tell you, God will save all who have called upon the name of Jesus Christ. Not all who call upon his name have read the scriptures. Reading of the Word is not a prerequisite for salvation, hearing the Gospel and believing it is all that matters regarding salvation. So go And do the work and share the Gospel. Tell those who wish to know God and build a relationship to read the wonderful word.

My dad quit school in the 8th grade he didn't have any problem understanding the kjv, the issue with all these doctors and professors want the people to look to them. Those who steer God's people away from the true and perfect word will give account for that.

The KJV is the only translation that comes from the textus receptus, which traces back to Antioch in Syria which is where the apostles got started following Christ's ascension. Modern versions use the critical text, which traces back to Alexandria in Egypt, where none of the apostles ever went. It is also where gnosticism came from. Furthermore, the critical text has mainly 3 manuscripts, the vaticanus, siniaticus, and Alexandrinus, and they contradict each other over 3000 times just in Matthew Mark Luke and John. The manuscripts from the textus receptus however are 99% identical and the 1% difference is mostly spelling variations, no contradictions. The Kjv is the only English version that is inerrant.

Gnosticism has its roots in zoroastrian ideology, which comes from the Syrian regions. The trinity is an obvious corruption... and even the Syrian peshita has it.

That’s the exact walk that I took, Mike! Started off in the NLT with the book of John and after reading the whole NLT I moved on to the NASB! This is the exact advice that I give to others who don’t know where to start.

Jonathan Harness The Wycliffe was the Catholic Bible, translated from LATIN into English, not Hebrew & Greek, 1380 by St Jerome. The Tyndale follows the Latin translation of the Catholic version with Hebrew and Greek added. The Geneva and the KJV are translated from Hebrew and Greek into English, and the KJV is the only version in the world authorized by a King. All versions written after 1960 follow after the “Catholic translation”. Look for yourself!! The KJV does not follow the Catholic version. That is the difference in Bible versions. All Bible versions gives an instruction in Deut. 4:2 and Revelation 22:18, 19, not to add or remove from scripture. Deut. 4:2 says that ye may “keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you”. In Revelation 22:14 the Geneva and the KJV, last book and chapter of the Bible reads 14 Blessed are they that “do his commandments”, that they may have RIGHT to the “tree of life”, and may enter in through the gates into the city (New Jerusalem). In the Wycliffe “Catholic Version” and all versions published after 1960 (NIV, NASB, ESV, Message, Amplified, NLT, NRSV, TPT, NLV, etc,), with the exception of the NKJV have removed “do the commandments” and added “wash your robes”. Now following the Bible’s instruction you can do a process of elimination and find the true version of Gods Word. There are two choices, the Catholic version, beginning with the Wycliffe or the KJV. Psalms 12:6 The WORDS of the Lord are pure WORDS: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. 7 Thou shalt keep them (the Words), O Lord, thou shalt PRESERVED them (his Word) from THIS GENERATION FOR EVER. (KJV) Just for fun let’s look at the Catholic translation of Psalms 12:7 and compare to the KJV. Wycliffe: 12:7 Thou, Lord, shalt keep US; and thou shalt keep US from this generation [into] without end. (Thou, Lord, shalt keep us safe; yea, thou shalt keep us safe from this generation forever.) Notice how the Catholic versions have removed “words” and added “us”, the “keep us safe”, instead of “preserving Gods Words”, complexly twisting scripture! NIV: 12:7: You, Lord, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked, NASB: You, Lord, will keep them; You will protect him from this generation forever. ESV: 12:6 You, O Lord, will keep them; you will guard us from this generation forever. It gets better. Look at John 3:16 in the Catholic versions and compare to the KJV. KJV: John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave “his only begotten Son”, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Wycliffe: John 3:16 For God loved so the world [Forsooth God so loved the world], that he gave his one begotten Son, that each man that believeth in him perish not, but have everlasting life. Notice after 1960 the Catholic versions have removed “begotten”. NIV: John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. NASB: John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. ESV: John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Notice that ALL Catholic version have removed the word “begotten” which is a title of the Son of God? There are many sons of God, including angels, but there is “ONLY ONE “begotten Son”, which is Jesus Christ. That is why I read a KJV.

ehh, I don't agree that the ESV or NASB translation are good versions for scholarly study though Mike lol for scholarly exegesis with extensive footnotes breaking down the etymology of words and even include a plethora of commentary, i recommend (and prefer as my #1 go-to translation) the NET version! New English Translation. One of my fav Christian Scholars, Dan Wallace, played a major role in the New Testament portion of this NET version. For regular easy reading, NIV or ESV is fine. But I def don't like the NASB version...

The Passion Translation is a re-worded and re-written Bible, apparently intended to support a particular strain of theology. If the same material was marketed as a “commentary” or as a “study guide,” it would still be concerning. As it is, The Passion Translation cannot honestly be called a translation or even a paraphrase. The TPT goes well beyond the idea of “translation” and reimagines the Bible as one human author thinks it ought to be written.

The "newer versions" CAUGHT changing verses and omitting verses TO DECEIVE. Many remove name of evil one being dragged to pit in Isaiah 14. Many change SAVED to "being saved" in 1 Corinthians. And so on. They even attack the Resurrection of Jesus Christ in some "versions". Call upon the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be SAVED!
