I'm 52 now. Trained since a kid: wrestling, boxing, muay-thai, judo and bjj. Won gold at my last open adult Provincial Judo tournament at 45. Even then I knew it was gonna be my last combative outing. Last year some nutball set his Rottweiler on my dog and I had to use all these skills. The long and the short of it is I reported it to the police buddy was in the ER with a police escort. Broken arm and a face so flat you could cook pancakes on it. He was wanted on outstanding warrants as a repeat serial violent offender. It was straight back to jail for quite some time for him. He didn't know what he was walking into. The cop was very impressed. Even at 45 what you've learned will stay with you for your entire life.

Honestly, it's genius to have a multitude of different "genres" of martial arts under one umbrella. Where each event will showcase a variety of contests, and not just MMA (albeit I'm a die hard UFC fan and prefer MMA matches). For instance, it's nice to see masters of one craft (BJJ/Sub. Grappling in this instance) battle it out without the conscious/subconscious understanding that a head kick can/will be thrown their way at some point. Or Muy Thai fighters not needing to worry about a double leg. It allows for more freedom/expression in whichever respective style of physical combat. As well as removes the opportunity costs/demand to be proficient across all facets of fighting in order to succeed on a high level.

Good to see a true sportsmanship in any fighting sport. As soon as the opponent tapped, he let go. No extra pounding, no extra suffering, it is a sport, the art of being precise and capable of extraordinary achievements without endangering any being. I've never practice any combat related sport, waterpolo was the closest, but I really enjoy this kind of rather unique moments, they should be the norm, but unfortunely humans mix feelings and try taking advantage by hurting others, and that deteriorates the whole concept of practicing a sport. Congratulation to both, it was a great to watch such a demonstration.

I don’t watch a lot of bjj, but I can’t imagine a lot of people use the body lock when they take a person’s back and also trap someone’s arm. At least I never seen that in mma. That was insane. And how he flipped over and took the back with such little space and quickness.
@hermanmelville38712 жыл бұрын
It’s becoming more popular. Trapping the arm with a body triangle is popular with the Danaher trained guys, and used to great effect by a competitor named Andrew Wiltse. A lot of people have difficulty establishing the triangle so they still trap the arm under the leg, albeit a little less securely.
