I like Mikey but I want to call out this comment. Not your comment only, but it's one in a series of many like this praising Mikey but not acknowledging he could do better. In this particular instance here's why: I don't think Mikey did the best job in not upsetting Bruno here. After Bruno spat the dummy by refusing to shake his hand, the best move would have been to ignore and not make a thing of it and discuss it discretely afterwards. But instead Mikey very openly and publicly denounced him and led the audience into jeering at him. I like that Mikey is outspoken about this sort of thing, but in terms of social dynamics I don't think he handles at the best way. And his actions here were certainly not screaming "I really don't want Bruno to be upset". Not the best example to follow in my opinion.

@@BM-wp7nh yeah but now all those people dream of humiliating someone in public like Mikey did. I think it was pretty obvious to most people that his opponent was being an ass. What's really subtle is that Mikey is kind of being one too. Bruno's mistake takes the emotional of maturity of a 15 year old to spot. Many adults may never learn to spot Mikey's.
@BM-wp7nh2 жыл бұрын
@@swazza9999 from the angle in which you are approaching it what you are saying makes sense, ultimately both atheletes could've handled the matters in different ways. Mikey could lack the wisdom as he was 24 there and as time goes by he would learn to react differently. the other fighter was far more immature with his lack of respect to another fighter which to me justifies how someone would react the way mikey did with his lack of wisdom. Yet the truth stands, if you were the salty athlete and you were treated like a 15 year old in front of the public you might have the ability to self reflect and learn from your wrongful attitude or build resentment. Either scenario showcases that he is a salty fighter with a lack of emotional IQ and it has been shown to the world. I could write an essay on why both of them have missed reality cues. The reality still stands though, no one is perfect and majority of people would never be smart enough to capture the small details. have a blessed day.

Fantastic match of pure skill. Bruno plays the rules for points and waits it out to re-sweep getting ankle grips early and waiting until the other guy is on top so I'm not sure what people are mad about with Mikey "stalling", they both play to the rules of the event and have the skill to do so. I've watched some recently posted IBJJF clips of Marcelo and other greats back in the 2000s after a loss: shake hands or hug if you want, move on. Bruno has so much experience at the absolute highest level and still no class after losing to a new generation. It's a shame but I hope he can develop emotionally.

1. According to Malfacine, they had some private conflict unrelated to this particular match. 2. Malfacine should not have behaved that way (and he acknowledged that), especially baiting Musumeci with an extended hand only to move it away. 3. This being said, it's also poor sportsmanship to be stalling when you're ahead on points, like Musumeci did. Yes, it's not against the rules (you just accept the penalty for that, that's all within the ruleset), but good sportsmanship is what goes beyond just following the rules. 4. It's also better to give your opponent a moment to recollect and regain composure, especially after a high stakes match like a world championship finale. Offering a handshake really can wait for after the verdict - give someone a bit of space and a moment to accept their loss. None of these excuse Malfacine's behavior, but I'm trying to be objective.

You have to allow someone the opportunity to process losing. I understand Bruno's point. He shouldn't have to hug his opponent the moment after a loss. Let him collect himself tie his belt then he can shake your hand with dignity. Mikey does that buddy buddy thing to opponents which any high level athlete will tell you is a psychological approach to loosening your opponents guard or focus. Not saying it's not genuine, but for most high level athletes they're not there to be your friend. Competitors on the mat whatever happens after the match is another thing entirely. Nobody that is in a very serious and in this situation one of his final performances want's to be friends with their opponent before or right after a match. Different opinion? Let me know! OSS

Glad they hugged it out at the end though, proper men.

No one is above the stalling tactic, EVERY person does it when they can. Being nice before hand is stupid because that's obviously a mental tactic. But after if you can't shake hands and be an adult about, especially if you have already won it that many times, it shows you really have nothing else going for you. Like all Bruno is is a 10x World Champion or what ever. His merits end there with this kind of behavior.

A martial that starts with both competitors falling on their butts and scooting towards each other. BJJ has to give out more points for throws. It just looks ridiculous.

@@gaia8840 def sounds like you never competed nor fought either in ring or outside scooting on your butt its not that it doesnt look cool its just not practical in real life some loser trys to but scoot will get a teep kick to the face or crotch stomped on thats the reality bjj went from looking realistic and capable for real combat which is more exciting and closer to simulated combat to being a leg lock bs leg locks can be super exciting and cool just look at phlares lol even with his leg breaking he had it all great takedowns good game all around not just some lame leg lock stuff
