MILCK - Quiet (Official Video)
Trigger Warning: This video portrays subtle yet sensitive material regarding sexual assault.
Stream/Download: Atlantic.lnk.to/ICantKeepQuietID
LETTER FROM MILCK:
Hi, friends and family. Hope everyone is doing well during these unpredictable times. In light of the Harvey Weinstein scandals sparking a massive movement of women and survivors speaking out against sexual assault, I find myself in awe and moved to my core. Since the age of 14 I’ve survived several acts of sexual assault. For years, I blamed myself and secretly carried the shame. When I did realize it wasn’t my fault and that I deserve to heal, I wrote a song called “Quiet,” which went viral after I sang it with a choir on the streets @ the D.C. Women’s March.
Since then I have teamed up with Atlantic Records to create a hopeful, new version that incorporates survivors singing with me. I’ve seen this song help survivors speak out after the Women’s March, and I believe that the new version has the power to encourage and empower all those thinking of coming forward at this time.
Even though I was planning to release this new version of “Quiet” in January, I believe the movement is happening now, and I want to support those breaking the silence by releasing “Quiet” early. I’m deeply moved Julie Greenwald @ Atlantic is standing beside me through this change of plan. She understands that it’s my gesture of support & encouragement to all the survivors rising. It’s my musical #METOO.
I hope you’ll listen and consider standing with us as well. Thank you so much for reading!!

Lyrics
“Quiet”
Written by MILCK
put on your face
know your place
shut up and smile
don’t spread your legs
I could do that
But no one knows me no one ever will
if I don’t say something, if I just lie still
Would I be that monster, scare them all away
If I let the-em hear what I have to say
I can’t keep quiet, no oh oh oh oh oh oh
I can’t keep quiet, no oh oh oh oh oh oh
A one woman riot, oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
I can’t keep quiet
For anyone
Anymore
Cuz no one knows me no one ever will
if I don’t say something, take that dry blue pill
they may see that monster, they may run away
But I have to do this, do it anyway
I can’t keep quiet, no oh oh oh oh oh oh
I can’t keep quiet, no oh oh oh oh oh oh
A one woman riot, oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh I can’t keep quiet
Let it out Let it out
Let it out now
There’ll be someone who understands
Let it out Let it out
Let it out now
Must be someone who’ll understand
Let it out Let it out
Let it out now
There’ll be someone who understands
Let it out Let it out
Let it out now
I can’t keep quiet

Los-Angeles native Connie Lim, better known as MILCK, has been singing for as long as she can remember. She began crafting her talent at a young age by enrolling in classical piano and opera classes. Inspired by artist from Frederic Chopin to Radiohead and Imogen Heap, she experienced something of an awakening in her college's underground piano rooms.
While her song "Devil Devil" hit success, it wasn't until her anthem "Quiet" made waves at the 2017 Women's March and on the internet, garnering over 14 million Facebook plays in 2 days and sparking the #ICanttKeepQuiet movement.
With the goal to help people feel empowered, she sings for the relentless, the vulnerable, and the brave.

I first heard this song the day I attended the Women's March in DC. I listened to it over and over, sometimes sobbing... because I finally, for the 1st time, heard someone singing exactly how I felt! From start to finish, this song helped me make large strides in my healing journey. This video is so very different from the video I originally saw, a couple years ago. It looks like you also found some healing through this journey. That is wonderful to see. Thank you for having the courage to share this at the March, thank you for having the bravery to let us in and begin our own healing. Wishing you peace and love. #heartnetwork2020

This song is very powerful. Especially when it happened to you. Happened to me my whole life growing up and even still when I was 40. Was afraid to tell anybody cuz the guy that did it to me was my moms husband. He told me that if o ever told anybody, that he would laugh in my face cuz he has family in the police dept. Wtf?

I am a survivor and I am tired of having to forgive them while I can’t forgive myself. Have you ever considered CBT, sorry im not promoting anything, I promise, I just generally want to help those who have been through trauma. Im not even a CBT therapist but I have used CBT myself, also you can break that chain, you can gain the tools in order to protect yourself, you didn't deserve any of that, you didn't make it happen, you certainly can prevent it ever happening again, unfortunately we live in a world where these things are hidden and it shouldn't be that way cause in truth you are set free. Much love to you, sometimes validation is the only thing you need. x

I found this after watching New Amsterdam today. I was straight up ugly crying as I held my 9 week old daughter who had finally fallen asleep as the song played. Such a strong message and such a source of strength for so many. Music speaks to us on so many levels and helps say the things we find hard to any other way. I’ve already had to play this twice more today to get my daughter to sleep and each time I cried because of the video and message. 💕

I sang this song last year at my schools talent show. I was a sophomore at the time and was inspired when I saw MILCK at Hello Sunshine in Cincy. I planned on singing A Little Peace this year, but my talent show was canceled due to the pandemic. I'm known as the "feminist girl" who speaks out during a fun, extracurricular, event. Every year, my dad joins me on stage (he went to Hello Sunshine too). Next year, as a senior, I plan on performing If I Ruled the World. MILCK, you have no idea how much you have inspired me. I carry on your message to my somewhat conservative town. I just wanted to thank you, because you're music has allowed me to grow in confidence.

I was always quite. I still am. And I've been asked to stay quiet. To keep my family together I still am. But it hurts me every moment of my existence as expected. I don't think I'll ever truly speak up in this life, but I'm glad this song exists because it calms the hurt. It lets me speak out in my head atleast. So thank you so much for unintentionally being a voice for me and many others 💜

I hope with time and support, you can find your voice. I was molested as a child in the 60's. My parents knew but it was kept hidden. I was so young I didn't recall the incident until 25 years later. I wasn't even sure if it had happened. I asked my mother and she confirmed that it had and apologized for how it was handled. She too had been sexually assaulted as a child. Times change and so can we.
