Tekken stepped out of Virtua Fighter's shadow and not only surpassed it, but became the last 3D Fighting game standing. It is also, currently, the third best-selling fighting game franchise of all-time, behind Super Smash Bros. and Mortal Kombat. As of this writing, it has even outsold the legendary Street Fighter series which is insane and unprecedented. Not bad for a series that was dismissed as a "Virtua Fighter-clone" when it started.

I think Kaz uses a Shotokan influenced style while Jin’s is closer to Kyukashin. Jinpachi is weird as hell. And idk what Heihachi’s style is based from. The love for video games was established and the rest was history. Tekken 3 will always have a small place close to my heart because it was something that my father and I could play and bond over when I was younger. We even has a blast trying to take it to my great grandmothers house and figuring out the hook up to her old box tv later that Christmas. There, my sister, father, cousin and myself would take turns fighting each other while learning all the moves to become even better or help one another fight through to unlock each character ending. Oh boy the good ol' times.

Tekken 3 was my first tekken game i ever played. Used to play with my dad and older brother all the time and we had a blast. Was instantly drawn to yoshimitsu since 5 year old bunga brain said "Crazy space ninja with lightsaber? im in" and have mained him ever since. Tekken Ball and Force were stupid fun too. This turned me into the fighting game nerd i am today, thanks to my old man, and i have no regrets.

Tekken 3 created a core memory (Inside Out reference if you don't understand) because of how much an impression it left on me. I remember the day my mom's cousin's ex-husband brought over his PS1, and had a few games. My cousins and I looking for a multiplayer game to play together, and found Tekken 3. We played that thing all day, forgetting anything else. The game just looks so cool, the music was awesome, and Eddy was definitely the favorite of EVERYONE lol. We forgot about the other games completely and just couldn't stop playing this.

"My only problem with this is the music sounds like WCW/nWo Revenge" That just makes it all the more better. Jokey comment aside Tekken 3 was my proper introduction to the series and still holds up really well for its age

This was the first fighting game I ever played. Speaks volumes that I was terrible at the game but still had a blast for years.

Tekken 3 was the very very first "real" game I ever played apart from flash games. I got it gifted to me (with a ps1) when I was 6~7 years old by my aunt's boyfriend. I am 20 years old now. Just goes to show that this game knows no generational boundaries :)

Everything about this game was great. The characters, the music, the intro, the endings. Man, i spent hours of my life playing this game. Jin was so awesome and actually fun to play in this game. Some would say he's just Kazuya and Jun but it worked.

Back when I was a kid, there was this laundromat around the area that had a Tekken 3 arcade cabinet that you could play. I used to play it all the time when I waited for my mom to do the laundry. I probably watched that motion capture intro play over a hundred times, and the music became ingrained into my memory 😂

Gaming on the PS1 from 1996-2000 was for me the height of video games. It was the Golden Age of gaming. The mount rushmore of PS 1 (FF7, Resident Evil 1-3, Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider 1- 3, and Tekken 3) There are so many games just outside of the top 5 that are too many to mention (Parasite Eve, Tony Hawk, Crash Bandicoot, Castlevania, Gran Turismo, Twisted Metal 2, Bust a Groove, Time Crisis, Madden, Grand Theft Auto, FF Tactics, Tenchu, Vagrant Story, Xenogears, etc, etc. If you were a teenager at this time and loved video games, you probably spent hundreds of hours of gaming on these games alone.

Good memories of this one and whichever Fatal Fury/KOF released on ps1 around the time. Really eye opening as a kid that fighting games were cool outside of what I owned.

Tekken 3, a game you can boot up until this day and it still plays that well. It’s that good and how iconic a few decades later.

Tekken 2 was my introduction to the series. My dad’s coworker brought over his PlayStation with it. And the rest is history. My father then got a PlayStation for our household and mistakenly bought Tekken 1. Love them both. I cannot tell you how many times as a kid I’d unlock all the characters. Then delete my file from my memory card so I could do it again. Especially in Tekken 3. I’ve beaten Tekken force mode and unlocked Dr B more times than I can count 😅

Tekken 3 is special for me in that it was responsible for my best arcade memory. I was at my local arcade with friends about 8 years ago, and they had a Tekken 3 cab. My friends know I love fighting games and arcade Tekken 3 is probably favorite of them all, so they left me to myself for a bit while I played single player. A while into the ladder, a guy walks up and asks if I want to go a few rounds with him, and of course, I do. Let me tell you, this man destroyed me. After a few rounds, he tells me how he's been playing Tekken his whole life and even played in some tournaments when he was overseas in Japan. Dude was super cool and even kept putting in more quarters for me when I lost so we could just keep playing. I never got his name, but I'll never forget that experience.

Raising my hand here. I did not own or play Tekken 3 or any 3D fighting games back in the day. I also didn’t play turn based RPGs. I really messed up my childhood and early adult life by not playing these. I remedied the turn based RPG thing in my early thirties but I haven’t tried Tekken until very recently with the Tekken 8 demo. Grabbing it on launch day.

for me growing up in the uk, you had two choices for fighting games, SF or MK, then tekken 2 came out and blew mine and my sister's mind. We'd run matches of Jack v Jack, King vs Jun all the time then Tekken 3 came out and it was so fun it got my DAD into it. he played hworang, I ran law my sister always picked nina or xaiyou. I remember vividly me and my dad sitting on my bed playing matches then running tekken force together. The casual fans flocked to this game and it always has a special place in my heart for those chilled sets my family would run after school or work.

I can’t say enough when I say Tekken 3 was more than a cornerstone of my childhood, and it defined the saga of imagining anyone as either of the characters in the roster. I was in love with it in the arcades in the elementary school era, I loved it on the console, and I still do to this day… And the soundtrack? whooooo!!!! You… can… Never get enough of it!!!!

I've the same experience. Never liked Tekken until 3. Seeing and playing 3 at the arcade was a epiphany. Then I've bought day one imported from Japan and played so much! Alone, with friends, at the arcade, at local small tournaments... What a masterpiece!
