This is the type of movie you have to watch when you’re in high school. I loved it as a teenager, but not so much as an adult. I went to a performing arts school, and I found it to be a refreshing break from the more “critically acclaimed” indie films that were popular within the arts community at that time. It was simple, sweet, and weirdly close to how my high school experience was. We had the underground battle of the bands that we got wasted at, we went on a Greece/Italy trip, we had a post it note girl; I loved this film. I think it's because there is a lot of cultural differnces in the way of treating subject like weed for exemple. Where in the franch version it's just an information on the mom and the fact that her and her daughter don't share EVERYTHING. In the american version there the NEED to make it important because smoking pot CANNOT be thrown just like that without an explanation that smoking is bad. A lot of the things that were light and breezy was lost in translation and way heavier in the american version. Here in france the version is the representation of a generation. Not absolutely accurate of course but I was a teenager at the time and I recognize myself and my friends at the time in a lot of details in the french version. The american version is less "personnal" sort of. More generic.

This is extremely common in most teenage movies and shows. Most of the actors are well in their 20’s. And yeah, it makes certain storylines that are actually really bad irl seem normal. Opinions aside, this movie was literally the movie that molded my style and motivated me to be closer with my mom and friends. I liked the coming of age aspect. It was also a good movie to show how stupid adults can be when they’re still young, and that everyone fucks up, you just have to take them for who they are. It’s cheesy and gross yeah but HOLY SHIT is it a fucking past time. Like everyone should rewatch it and actually look at the underlying pattern of “don’t judge on first glance.” Great movie review, made me laugh and cry. Needed a good humbling experience lmfao.

Watched this movie at my first slumber party! What a time... really added to the already akward tween vibe. A group of 13/14 year old sugar high girls with matching frienship bracelets continously heckling your movie is not a good sign... we were all so confused haha

*I don’t know if you’ll ever see this but you should do ‘Never Been Kissed’ - a Drew Barrymore movie from the 90s. It’s not necessarily a bad movie, it has its fair share cringy moments and you’ll be able to add to the female protagonist fall list. I really loved the movie growing up and I’d love to see your take on the movie!* 😁 🤗

I worked as a French TA at an American College, and we showed the French version to the students and they loved it. I'm French myself and must say that the french version depicts a french teenager's life quite accurately. The original version is quite popular actually. And it is still more or less accurate, aside from the haircuts and the social media, everything in this movie still works. It's sad they decided to make a remake instead of just dubbing the original version
