It's called *acting*. Not to mention that would be a perfectly legal and normal interaction in the vast majority of the world, including most countries with far lower rates of sexual misconduct and misogyny than the US. You wanna tell millions upon millions of successful, empowered, sexually and mentally healthy women that *actually* you know better than them and they're really traumatised rape victims, because they chose to kiss a guy when they were already old enough to move out, work, join the military and vote? God it must be hard being terrified of the entire world to the degree you are.

@@pseudonymous9153hey, dude, relax. that comment is a year old. also the legal system is a joke. just cause something is legal doesn't mean it's morally okay. if ur only living life according to the law and Not also morals, you are weird. Also, 16 is not an age you can do most of those things? you can't join the army or vote in the US at 16. you have to be a legal adult. regardless though. the film industry is very exploitive and child actors do not have near as many protections as they should. nobody is calling her a rape victim. they are just very understandably pointing out that a 16 year old girl that would still be in high school being made to kiss a man that's been a legal adult for 4 whole years is fuckin weird. he was 18 when she was 12. chill.

Fun fact: In the prom scene, the "Green Day lookalike band" is an actual band called Allister. Allister's drummer is Mike Leverence, who is the cousin of my mother. This movie has always been a family favorite, just because you can see our cousin in it (blurrily in the background for the most part, but whatever). You can actually get a sort of good look at him for a split second at 14:15. But (even though this movie sucks) Allister is actually a pretty good band. You guys should check 'em out. Another fun fact: Firefly fans look back at the ticket lady at 12:34. Look familiar? It's River!

My absolute least favorite trope in media is fat/ugly character can only date equally fat/ugly character, so pretty skinny character doesn't feel threatened. the main actors were actually teens, though? like, the movie's awful lol but it did have real teenagers in it aside from the love interests (which is really gross imo). sometimes people look older than their age (esp in Hollywood) but they were all 15-16, save Peters at 17. though I think the plot would've been more believable for high-schoolers that were around the ages of the actors rather than aging them down to middle-school when they included things like driving and other questionable things but tween marketing was most profitable, I guess
