Does anyone know the role of the U.S. Army while the president is overseas? I've noticed that when the president is overseas, the U.S. Army is with him and not the U.S. Marine Corps, other than Marine one and its one or two decoys. I'm assuming that they keep an assault force with him in those Army Chinooks being as though he is overseas. That's my only guess!

The support aircraft and other support activities will come from the nearest US military organization able to provide the required support. Often times it is the Army. The support aircraft usually transport the press and other support personnel vice an assault force, as the secret service has the responsibility for protection of the President.

What Patrick said. For the support staff, they use the nearest and most available military assets. This is often the US Army in Europe due to their large helicopter fleet based in Germany. I've seen regular US Marine Corps MV-22 Ospreys and CH-53 Stallions also used in this role on a visit to California before, all though the Presidential support MV-22 Ospreys are usually flown around the USA for this. There was a brief period where the MV-22 Ospreys flew overseas for this role too, but that is rare these days. I saw the Presidential support MV-22 Ospreys from Quantico in London in 2018, and they were also used in Cornwall, UK in 2021. So theoretically, the US Navy's helicopter fleet could also provide this support role if available.

I just didn't know they stopped using the HMX-1 support helicopters overseas. I see them all day here in Washington.D.C. where I live!
