Criminally underrated? I don't think you know what that means, you're just throwing words out you think make you sound cool. The Blues Brothers is regarded by the majority of the film industry and audiences as an incredible movie and sits in the Library of Congress. There is nothing criminally underrated about this film.

From what I heard is that since the Brothers were on a “Mission from God”, the joke was God themself was trying to help the brothers, one of the ways was keeping the BluesMobile safe. In fact, the scene where the car unrealistically backflips, the joke is that God lifted the car. After they reached the plaza, the car, God released the power they had on the car, since it was no longer needed. Because of that, all the times the car should have been destroyed happened all at once. All that was left for God to do was to assist if the brothers needed it, just to make sure the checks were signed before the cops reached them, which they did. Clever, huh? (and it still is a pretty satisfying end to the movie. Even though the brothers have to spend a couple years in jail, they are clearly satisfied knowing that at least accomplish their mission to save their childhood home)

That car was a divine instrument from the start. The animating spirit within it (an Ofanim Angel no doubt) explains all the weird things that car was capable of even before the final chase. Brake man smirks and replies with "Hit it!", always a joy ^^

Blame the rise of the international market. Comedy is the hardest genre to make nowadays because it’s very difficult to localize jokes into other languages when they involve dialogue, that’s why everything is generic quips and physical comedy, because it’s universal. People blame things like a nonexistent “culture war” or the underpaid writers but at the end of the day it always just comes down to the studio’s money.
@PhilipAlexanderHassialis
@PhilipAlexanderHassialis 27 күн бұрын
@@courier6960 To be fair, depends totally on the audience. I am a person on the other side of the world and (I think) got most, if not all, of the jokes. Heck, half the movie IS physical comedy and the "generic" funnies translate to any language. Sure, I wasn't a kid when I first saw it (~18ish I think) but still, I had hearty laughter AND I bought the album to boot :)

Class was a theme in almost all the great comedies. Including this one. But class consciousness has been successfully scrubbed from American society. Certainly the elites in charge of the studios are not interested in fueling class awareness. It's why almost all new comedies have characters living lives most people cannot relate to.

Standing and staring at the spot where the Bluesmobile broke apart underneath the stone wall statues, walking through the door where Jim Belushi and Dan Ackroyd build up that makeshift barricade, and looking at the security guard's desk. The way Jake grabs Elwood and yells, "COME ON!!!" he's like, "No time to get sentimental now, pal, we're on a mission from God like you said, remember?"

This was when you had to have real talent to produce something. Dan Akroyd and John Belushi were epic ( the whole cast was honestly ), the film was fun, the music incredible.

I never really thought about it before but it's an absolutely brilliant piece of writing You have your main character straight up say I'm on a mission from God And then let everyone act surprised when you go ham-handed with the deus ex machina.
