Since around 2008 (when I was 13) I've been getting my crewneck sweatshirts/hoodies/flannels/band tees/zip-up hoodies mostly from the mens sections of stores. Way more comfortable and I often prefer the mens fit to the womens fit because the latter is usually very tight or fitted at the waist. So I definitely recommend looking in the mens section, especially for the type of clothes that aren't really gender specific anyways, like hoodies.
