Buy the Milwaukee M18 FUEL 2804-20 on Amazon: amzn.to/2XkYryV
If you are in Canada, please visit www.JCCayer.com for deals on power tools.
Why did we choose the DEWALT DCD996 and the Milwaukee 2804-20? The top two two piece combo kits are the DEWALT DCK299P2 and the Milwaukee 2997-22. They are direct competitors and they both include 5.0Ah batteries and the drills above. The battle is a head to head based on those kits that you can purchase off the shelf and that is the comparable. We did add in the new 6Ah battery for both brands to show full power in demanding situations.
We did not want to test Bluetooth capabilities. If we would have, we would have used the DEWALT DCD997 Cordless Premium Hammerdrill and the Milwaukee One-Key 2806-20 drill. The complications of proving one drill were not running a reduced power was not worth the high-end comparison. Both of the drills tested have the same ability as the more technologically advanced brothers, so if you choose to be more techy, the drills will perform the same as our testing.
There is a lot of destruction and testing well beyond normal use, so get a bag of chips and sit back. Leave us your comments.

I like how you didnt puss out and submerged the whole dang drill and battery, at first I was like oh come on put that battery in the water too, and then you did it lol. I'm a red guy but in performance the dewalt took it. Both great products!

Drill- Packedge in typical box, came with a tool bag (added bonus), two batteries, one charger, drill, and driver. Two words "plenty of Torque" kzbin.infoUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv well I guess that's three. Nice upgrade from current setup. Has belt clips, I don't think I will be using those. Driver and drill were bigger than what I expected but it is an upgrade from the current setup. For the money I would say that this is a great setup for Professionals and DIY/Weekend warriors.

@you donky Don't bet, prove. There are a lot of tool tear down videos out there. Milwaukee tools generally come out as fairly well designed, and robust. Designed for the task at hand. Some have seriously overkill built in, some have some questionable weakpoints. ...Which is just like every other tool manufacturer out there. Makita is one of the very few brands that isn't part of a multiple-brand corporation. They make some great tools, and some that are just really not that great. Brand loyalty wins you nothing, it really only benefits the people selling you a product.

Sep. 2021 I just bought the M18 MILWAUKEE 2802 and comparing it with another that I have the Brushless 1/2 Makita 18v Dhp485sye, the MILWAUKEE 2802 is louder, the motor whistles, it heats up more, the battery does not fit at all, the charger seems iron but as a positive point It has a better Chuck, it feels powerful, 5-year warranty, it looks well manufactured. Between MILWAUKEE and Makita the power seems similar, at the moment I prefer the makita since the motor is quieter, the motor and charger hardly get hot, time will tell if the heating in the MILWAUKEE is a problem or not. It has cost me USD$185, winning the makita for USD$12 dollars less. I hope my comments contribute something positive to your purchases.

In addition with the hole cutting exercise when the drill stopped. That's the Dewalts anti kickback feature. It kills power if it senses you rotating or changing angle to much in a high torque situation. A longer handle would help with this.

The Milwaukee has a sensor in the battery that tells it shut off to keep it safe if water enters that battery. A good tool should shut off in that situation. I'd rather have to wait an hour for it to dry out then have to buy a tool ever three times that happens

Both are great performing, tough drills. Either can do just about any drilling task in due time. If it were me, I'd go Milwaukee because of its much smaller size. It's like having two drills in one. Remove the handle and put a 2ah battery on it, and it's an easy to use compact drill. Put the handle back on and throw an HO 6ah on it, and it's a beast. Great test, guys!

Why were there no wood chips falling out when you were drilling the 6x6 with the 12 inch auger?
@thetruth5210
@thetruth5210 5 жыл бұрын
As a low voltage electrician it is the DeWalt DCD996 all day everyday on wood construction. Mostly use 3/4 in augers and paddle bits and 1” 1/4 when needing to pull HDMIs. Not to mention that the old school DeWalt side handle can be orientated in any direction so that you can place it up against the studs so that if it binds on a nail or screw it doesn't break your wrist, not so much with the dirt bike throttle handle from Milwaukee...
@thetruth5210
@thetruth5210 5 жыл бұрын
Do you understand what the title low-voltage electrician means? It means having a certification on how to run and successfully terminate fiber optic cabling. It means knowing how to terminate regular communication cabling in a residential or commercial application. Radio grade cabling; RG59, RG6 & RG11 Category cabling; CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6a, CAT7 & CAT8 Also having certifications including but not limited to NICET & BICSI You think a regular electrician has a Fluke DSX-8000 (note to self this with all the add-ons is like $20,000) on his or her van to certify the fiber or copper that they just pulled in end-user’s home? Do I need to go into intercoms, whole house audio, home theater or the Internet of things? Ask the average electrician to explain to you the difference between Dolby Vision & Atmos Vs. DTS-X IMAX? I wait with baited breath to find out what their answer will be... How many regular electricians also have licenses to install alarm systems and their home state? When I show up at a high-rise it is normally to handshakes and when can we buy you lunch because I have just made the electrical Formans day because I have taken a giant burden off of his or her shoulders. When I show up at an end user’s house after they’ve gotten their FREE installation from the telecommunication company, and the lazy technician has their Internet running in on RG6 from ONT by NID and they are rocking 24Mbps down & 6Mbps up I simply run and certify a CAT5e from their modem to the ONT then they get 53Mbps down & 51Mbps up. Can I tell you how happy they are to get what they pay for monthly. 🤑😉

It might have been helpful to compare the weight of the tools with the batteries attached, I didn't see that in the review. The Milwaukee batteries have a built-in battery strength and charge meter, which I find extremely handy. What about the DeWalt, do their batteries have the same or similar for checking battery strength as you work, or when you go to use a battery that has been sitting around unused for awhile? I used to work in construction trades, drilling a lot of holes in, or even straight through, masonry and poured concrete for running and anchoring conduit and sleeving. Now I am just a do-it-yourself weekend warrior, with various Home Improvement projects, deck refurbishing, and the like. Some of my cordless tools and batteries might sit unused for a month or two, and then I pick them up and use them for a whole weekend. The Milwaukee batteries seem to hold a full charge, or nearly so, inbetween months of disuse. It would have been helpful to see how the DeWalt batteries fare in that type of intermittent usage. By the way, I've never dumped or dropped my tools in water, however, I *have* dropped them off a ladder many many times!. You should try that test with the Milwaukee and DeWalt tools. Dropping them from a height of 6 to 10 ft, repeatedly, landing on wood or other even harder surfaces such as asphalt and concrete, with a drive bit holder or drill already in the chuck. See if the chuck stays true, without wobble, and still operates smoothly after you have dropped it on the drill bit with sufficient force to bend the bit. Now that's what I would call a real world test!

One thing I did notice after watching this video again. The DeWalt was faster drilling the 1" speed bore holes over 90% of the time. But after the torture tests and submerging them in water, you went back to drilling the 1" holes again. And this time the Milwaukee was making it through the wood faster every single time. I thought that was interesting and something you boys didn't pick up? But, when all is said and done, both drills are great tools and work horses to be sure! If you're team red you stay that way. If you're team yellow there's no reason to switch. Or you can own both, like I do. Lol Love them both, but also live my Makita (and now my Metabo 36/18 volt) too! All great money makers.

great review, but can you do a horizontal drilling test? the extra weight of the dewalt would probably aid in drill time, whereas the lighter milwaukee may be beneficial in horizontal applications, for me all the holes id hammer drill would be on a wall, very rarely, would i go vertical. ps, on the wide auger bore, if you hit it at a slight angle its easier. When i go through a concrete wall, if I don't hit at angle it always bites back.

The side handle seems a little flexy when using a 3" power planter earth auger compared to my old 8A corded milwaukee. Happy overall so far.

I have the DeWalt 996, as my personal tools at home are yellow. It's a beast. It's kinda heavy and the chuck had Abit of run-out. We use primarily Milwaukee tools at work. They're kinda clunky... Not as comfortable in the hand and the batteries seem loose fitting sometimes. Love the size of that hammer drill, though. I like them both. I think Ridgid is often in that conversation too. Orange is a good buy, with good performance. I think it usually comes down to what batteries you have. If you're interested in yellow, start yellow, you probably won't be disappointed. I seriously hope that Craftsman will put out some more brushless "made in America..." tools and stop using the DeWalt guts of yesteryear.

We love the Milwaukee Mid-Torque for most jobs. The New High Torque Impact from Milwaukee rocks for the large jobs but is to heavy for all day use.

13:41 As mentioned, it seems like the Milwaukee is quieter than the Dewalt. This may not be important on a job site, but it's important to me for home repair and hobbyist activity.

Higher exterior temp of the battery could be showing that a battery case is better at expelling heat away from the cells, so could actually be a positive thing rather than just meaning the battery is hotter.

I think the longer hander is just adjusting angle.. while the short handle is pushing it down as well. .. when you will push ddown with the longer handle that will tilt the drill while with shorter handle it will not tilt but will push it down

Im a dewalt guy. I've been a dewalt guy about 15 years or so. I remember when i started my electrical career my first day in the job, i was working on a 6ft ladder and my black and decker drill fell from my pouch hit the ground and broke in a thousand pieces. A co-worker( older guy) told me if you're planning to do this kind of work start buying real tools tough tools like dewalt. Ever since I've been buying real tools tough tools Dewalt I own nothing but dewalt

Can you do a db sound test on the hammer drill mode. I’d like to see how much louder the dewalt is. Maybe it’s a big enough difference that you need hearing protection for one but not the other.

Hi guys, Great video, I thought it was very honest and fair. I have always been a fan of Makita, my last twin set lasted me over 10 years! When it finally came to choose new set I went for a Milwaukee twin set. After using them almost evey day for 10 months , the impact driver had this intermittent fault where it would just stop and wouldn't work. The percussion drill was fine until last week when I was drilling half a dozen holes into brickwork, when all of a sudden smoke stared pouring out of the vents. They have both been sent away to be fixed by Milwaukee as they are still under warranty. I have to say I am very disappointed that they have both let me down! I'm hoping once fixed or replaced they down let me down again. Maybe I've had a bad batch or something? I hope it is an isolated incident as I do like the design and how they feel.

Hi I’m looking at purchasing the dcd 796 or the dcd 996 which 1 in your option is the best 1 for me to purchase because if the settings 1 and 2 are most used and setting 3 on odd occasions only wouldn’t it be best to purchase the dcd 796. Because the setting 3 is basically useless or too powerful to do holes.am I correct Especially if the dcd796 is virtually the same as the 996 and if the 996 struggles on setting 3 then really the 996 would be a waste of money when you can purchase the 796 and do the same stuff and just as much power as the 996 and the torches on both are also the same - This is a hard choice which do I purchase please help me decided much appreciated As there is also more torque settings on the dcd 796 as I’ve noticed on your very good video you made They both also weigh the same so really I’m not noticing much if anything different on both models apart from setting 3 I look forward to hear back from you so I can place my order thank you...

You buy the same brand you are using right now. Because you have that battery platform. But choosing one of these two for your first one depends on your needs. If I portability and size matters to you, get the RED. If you have a van and drive to your locations, get a YELLOW. Performance wise, it doesn't matter if the difference is up to 10%. You will never race another contractor hole by hole. It all comes down to your experience. An experienced worker will work faster with a slower drill. What does matter is how you feel when you finish your shift. How does your arm feel from holding it upright all day, how does the hard start impact your wrist, how fast does it recharge, how long does it last, ... I work a lot overhead so I use the 2Ah batteries to keep the weight down. They charge to 80% in 15 minutes from empty and run for over 2 hours of usage. For me size, weight and portability matters more than performance. I'm always working indoors, so water ingress is not needed but dust is. I started with Black n Decker back in the days and they served me well (they are still working today), then I went to Bosch because of size and weight. I gave Bosch 3 chances, but nope. They kept breaking down, just bad quality I guess. I really liked Panasonic then, but it got stolen. Now I have Hitachi, the best I have had yet. What matters for you? What are you using it for?
