This Eurorack module from Noise Engineering is a 10HP, 16-step sequencer with 4 separate CV outputs plus an additional trigger out. Each CV pattern can be individually edited. This module is optimized for live performances and for changing patterns on the fly. The MD is stacked with a ton of great features for both CV modulation and melodic sequencing.

Great tutorial and after getting this sequencer, it really is fun with Clep Diaz and Cursus Iteritas! It reminds me of a smaller different version of Rene but with Noise Engineering spices.

I avoid most of your modules because my brain sucks too much to engage in the stacked workflow, but this thing has been a godsend with my drum rack. It makes it so damn easy to spit out stuff to control all those timbre parameters that I want to add some dynamism to without having to rig up a bunch of extra shit to do it. It feels like the Rand button was made specifically for me.

I was really interested in this sequencer's design ever since Ricky Tinez featured his combined with an Intellijel Scales & Steppy - a demonstration that really helped me start putting together the pieces on the power of modular for techno & live performance. Now that I have one of my own, I can agree that it's a very exciting and fun piece of kit to use. Like all sequencers, it has its own strengths and weaknesses - and I'm really glad that I have it in my collection. Still learning it - which is why I'm here - but already finding it has a pretty short learning curve and already useful in new ambient compositions that may get released on my channel soon!

I am confused why it has 4 CV outputs but only one Trigger output..? does that mean you can't use each CV output without a separate Trigger or Gate from something else if you want send the CV's going to 4 oscillators that are then going to ADSR's..?

Is it possible to edit a single step without stopping it? It would be easier to judge small adjustments in the wider context of a recorded sequence if it could keep running while you adjusted a single step.

I have an Eventide Misha that I never quite actually got along with. After doing some research and I landed on this amazing module and my Misha is now back in its box waiting for someone on Reverb to buy it. Don't make my mistake, more money doesn't mean better.

Very good video. I just bought one of these and enjoy it. But there's one badly missing feature: a way to turn off a trigger for a step, for a rest note. I did see the video that uses a VCA for this, but cutting the volume is not the same as blocking a trigger. I guess one could use a trigger sequencer, but ...

that looks like a very fun module, great presentation too. the only thing that seems weird is that when turing the encoder the signal is not interpolated to the steps, is this by design? also would have been great to see a slew function.

It's meant to be a step sequencer, so there is no interpolation, that's correct. We never really considered a slew function, mostly because any other things we could possibly add would have made it larger!

Does the step move forward with every trigger? Or would the CV step move forward even if there isnt a trigger (i.e. by using a clock input)?

So great！I just want to know at 11:24, the long bass pad(which is not 16steps) comes from which sequencer? I am know to eurorack and right now as far I know most of the sequencer are step sequencer, so I don't know how to use step sequencer to make pad voice.

Are the outputs quantised v/oct so you can run melodic sequences or do you have to manually tune each step?

I don’t have the module, but he says that if you push and turn then each click on the knob is a semitone, so I’d assume it is quantized.

Great demo, very comprehensive. 👍 just wanted to check, the 4 cv outs can sequence 4 separate oscillators, right? Must get saving! 😂 One more thing, is it 4 channels of 16 steps each channel (like having 4 16 step sequences), or 4 steps x 4 channels, or 16 steps with 4 outputs? Thanks.

It's 4 channels, each channel is16 steps long.. unless you trigger the "origin" button or input... which allows for some interesting variations on rhythm. as the man says... you can cv_modulate anything .. eg, chnl 1, 2 on 2 oscs... 3,4 on filter... or mult them... a loot in a small unit ))))

It would have been nice to have the option to hold and tune each step as you’d like it, rather than by trial and error. Rene (for example) allows you to hold a step to precisely tune each one, but the MD does not, which makes for a very frustrating and lengthy procedure

Does the sequence progress a step with every trigger as the Vox Digitalis (seemingly) does, or is it tempo based (x ppqn clock)? Or even better, can one choose?

Is it possible to skip a step in the 16 step sequencer? say steps1-4 with note info, step 5 blank 6-10 note info, step 11 blank? or limit the sequence to say ten sequential steps in length?

You can zero any step, but you can't skip a step. We recommend setting it to output only where you want info. We have a post about how to do that here! www.noiseengineering.us/blog/rests

Use the O ("Origin") input to go back to the first step.

Each step can be turned all the way down, which is effectively a mute (use the zero function or just dial down until the LED for that channel at that step is off), but you can't skip steps.

There is no internal function like this, but you can use a clock divider or trigger sequencer to reset MD and change the number of steps.

If it doesn't have 16 knobs/sliders, one for each step, then it's not actually optimized for live performance/changing steps on the fly.
