Min Pin or Rat Terrier?

So cute! Not full rattie, but I ears give it away. I say mix of both. That's what I think mine is. Won't sit still, crazy, he practically flies lol, he's a comedian and definitely chews everything! Yet gentle, sweet and smart as can be 😍

I say he is a Rattie. His personality is definitely terrier like. He's soooo cute. Probably grown up now. We rescued our rat terrier from a hoarding situation in Texas when he was 5. We just had to let him go at the age of 13, cancer and kidney failure. It was like losing a child. He was that once in a lifetime dog. So smart, funny, sweet, loyal and so loving. Our hearts are still broken. I hope you still have your little guy and that he is a huge member of your family. Cherish him. 💖 Did you ever decide yourselves whether he is a Rattie or a Min Pin?

I believe he’s a rat terrier. I have had mine-pins since 1977 and the tail hair is a give away for terrier. Either way he is beautiful.

My breeder says mine is rat terrier shes a merel ive never seen ratties with merel i just came across this breed tonight min pin.. makes me wonder.. dont matter.. shes around 20lbs.. shes wild like yours haha especially if someone has food she will growl protecting it! They are loyal and love their master.. great with kids too!

Best to get a DNA test and know for sure. If he is a minpin, you need to be more careful of his diet. They have very sensitive digestive systems, and can get sick very easily. Rat terriers are a bit hardier, but they are both terrier breeds, so still have to be careful of pancreatitis and IBD no matter which he turns out to be. If you decide against the DNA test, then one way to discern would be to check for the "hacknee" walk or prance of the minpin. Rat terriers have a smoother walk. Minpins tend to be more bouncy and like to walk on their hind legs, like a prairie dog. Rat terriers also do not bark nearly as much as minpins. I have had both. Rat terriers are much less 'nervous' than minpins. I go back to the movement difference. Rat terriers movement is smooth and calmer. Minpins movement tends to be bouncy / jerky-- move, stop, move stop, move stop and have the very distinctive Hacknee walk / prance. Rat terriers in general, are more calm and their coat is much softer so they will shed more. Minpins hair is shorter and a single coat, so shedding is minimal. Their fur also is not as soft as a rat terrier. It is a coarser, shorter. If his hair is soft and has a hacknee walk, then you are looking at a mix. Rat terrier, Manchester Terrier, Miniature Pinscher all can look similar. My Miniature Pinscher was 24 pounds and bigger like a Rat Terrier, but his legs were longer. Rat terriers have legs that are more typical in length. With a Minpin, you generally look at them and see "those long legs" and the prancing.

I say he is a Rattie, he is adorable. Feisty and stubborn like a rattie. We had a rattie that we rescued fom Texas when he was 5. Louie was the funniest, smartest, craziest, also well mannered and the most loving dog ever. He was that once in a lifetime dog, like a child. I say min-pin .. I can't tell for sure but his toes look like they have the "pencil marks" that is specific to min-pins. But whatever he is .. he is ADORABLE!!

Min Pins have the ears of a Daschung (weenie dog) and italian greyhound) with the dropped tips. He is a Min pin for sho.

I have a pure bred min-pin whose ears never stood up so they look just like this. I would say Min-Pin but the bushiness of the tail makes me think it's at least part ratty.

p.s. My Min-Pin also has a basketball that she just can't get enough of. She acts just like this with it. That's crazy, I've never seen another dog besides her go so nuts over a regulation basketball.

He is a rat terrier. We have a female marked almost the same. All black and tan except a white patch on her chest. Her ears stand up. I’d attach a picture if I knew how

Mine is the same as yours, he totally acts like a Pinscher and is very Brave and confident, just has a White line in the medial line from ches to the neck and a little White in the back paws, but i think hes a pincher.

l lost my min 2 months ago he was 100%. yours looks close but the tail is to fluffy. i am almost positive he is mix ,with 90% min pin.

If he is a Min Pin he’s not fully compliant with the ideal breed standard. No Min Pin should have white on its body and this dog has white on his chest. His fur looks too thick and long to be a Min Pin and his head shape isn’t a great example of a Min Pin head. I don’t know anything about how the ideal rat terrier should look, he may well be a perfect specimen. That’s always assuming he’s not a cross breed.

Mini pin mix. Not sure what it's mixed with but he is a little tall for full mini pin. Rat terrier ears are standing pretty much at birth. We have a rat terrier pup and I wish I could send a pic. Either way he is gorgeous and nicely trained for his age♥️

His tail is different than our min pin. Ours’ tail points down or straight with the tip up, not on the back like a malamute.

I see rat terrier. But he could be a mixture. I have had 2 rat terriers. Wonderful dogs! Smart and very loving. Both were so easy to train. Not barkers either. They would bark if someone came to the door. Good with the grandkids.

I have a minpin/Chihuahua mix with a docked tail no less haha! But in this pups face I see chihuahua. Certainly a mix bc I have a full breed registered MinPin and like others say…no white markings allowed. But he’s so cute…like my Minpin chihuahua girl😄

Good for to not chopping his tail off! But i do believe you need to have an amount id white to even be considered a rattie. I have got a six month old rattie in the pearl colour, and she is the mose beautiful one i have ever seen in person or on the internet. It sounds biased but, its so very true! To bad i cannot upload a picture for you on here but please believe me on this one! Also i do think that your puppy is a mix of a bunch of different breeds of dogs instead of one or the other, just doesnt quite qualify as per the guidelines of either breed, but hes a very handsome little boy you have there. Im sure if you bred him with some other dogs they would be very beautiful puppies too! 🐶 ❤️

I had a Rat Terrier with button ears, so not having pointy ears is not a real deciding factor. I had one rat terrier that was shorter than the other one, so even that is not a deciding factor. I like the Rat-a-pin label the earlier poster said.

The thicker tail is throwing me off. I want to say he has more rat terrier. Our Min Pin has the white on the chest, and two white feet, but is clearly Min Pin by his other traits. Yours seems more like the terrier.
