I'm here because I've JUST found AnnenMayKantereit & can't get enough of them. It was some random KZbin short clip by the lead singer Henning May (the guy with the AMAZING raspy voice) that caught my attention. I first listened to the English covers, but tried the German songs, too - and BOY were they great or what!!! I don't speak German but I understand some words & phrases, but honestly; that is not even important when you dive into their music. Henning May has got that superstar aura around him, and his way of singing just takes you away somewhere. I've listened to their songs for about two weeks now, and haven't found a bad one yet. It's kind of a mixture of bluesy rock, a hint of jazz, the best parts of indie pop & surprisingly, some r&b too. Oh, and just hauntingly beautiful ballads. I had to order their record from Germany because they didn't have any here in our record stores. I strongly recommend some of their German songs, but it's hard to choose because they're all so different, but equally good. Annenmaykantereit were founded 2011 and formed their band name out of the last names of the 3 band members Christoph Annen, Henning May and Severin Kantereit. Their starts as street musicians and had with 'Pocahontas' their first hit in germany around 2016.

AnnenMayKantereit did a concert in Berlin in 2019. Giant Rooks were their supporting band. After that concert they did this jamming session and I love the result! I know the location from the video because we stayed there years before ... Please listen to the AMK originals "Proberaum Sessions", for example "Lass es kreisen" or "lass es kreisen - Live in Berlin" - really great.

The band in the first room is AnnenMayKantereit, the band in the second is Giant Rooks. AnnenMayKantereit was founded in 2011 in Cologne/ Germany, the city where Tina Turner lived for eight years. They started their career as street musicians. The name of the band is derived from the last names of the three band members, Christopher Annen, Henning May and Severin Kantereit. They sing mostly in german doing their own songs and their trademark is Henning May's rough voice. This cover from 2019 was online viral and has been seen almost 141 million times. Their english language covers often result from collaborations with other bands and musicians, such as the cover of Roxanne with Milky Chance, which also went viral. Recommended songs in german are "Ich geh heut nicht mehr tanzen (Proberaumsession)", "Barfuß am Klavier", "Ozean" "Tommi" and "Pocahontas" (not a Neil Young cover). Giant Rooks were founded in Hamm/Germany in 2014 by the two cousins Frederik Rabe (vocals, guitar, percussion) and Finn Schwieters (guitar). Most of the band members knew each other from school here too.
