Through using our five senses throughout safe place imagery we can build a picture in our mind’s eye of a calm, relaxing place, helping us to feel safe. This can be particularly helpful for those who have experienced trauma or are feeling intense emotions.

I became overwhelmed with emotion. Just a few minutes of allowing myself to retreat to a safe place allowed me to realise that I live permanently as a prisoner within my own mind.
