I remember Sal saying in an episode a while ago that motivation is a feeling and discipline is a skill. I’ve taken that to heart and since 2019, i have carved out the best physique of my life (at 38 years old, nonetheless!)….and loving every second of it! Thanks!!!! 💪🏋️❤️

I resonated with several of the points, but #7, Life Changes, really struck a chord because last year during a very stressful time for me, where I was suffering from very poor sleep, I did not what Sal said to do, to use fitness/exercise and mold it to improve the quality of our lives. Instead, I kept pushing myself, using the same intensity that I had the previous month when stress was not high and sleep was good, and I started dreading my workouts and was tempted to quit altogether. Now I plan to take my workout and think of it, as Sal said, as a Swiss Army knife from here on out. Thank you guys for all your great content! The 5 podcasts a week really DO serve as inspiration and accountability! :)

The thing that motivated me to live a healthier lifestyle was looking ahead and creating a more realistic long term goal. Like how I wanted my body to look in 5 years and how much healthier I will be in that time. I then changed my mindset about dieting and weight loss and the way I looked at food and my consumption of foods "healthy or unhealthy" i.e portion and amount of calories consumed.

Thank you for this list. I started working out last year, lost 30 lbs and gained all back by the end of the year. I started of this year fatter than what I was last year. I moved to another country last year and there's a free gym in my apartment building - I've been strength training 5 times a week ever since then and I am deeply committed to acheiving the strength goals I've set for myself. I've dabbled in fitness over the years but having Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (connective tissue disorder) means injuries usually take me out every time. This time, I'm making sure I take the necessary steps to continue to train (i.e. train differently) with my disability rather than fighting against it. You guys have made my journey so enjoyable and knowledgeable. I truly thank you for all you do guys. Beth x

The metrics that you guys talk about are awesome but as a regular non trainer I didn't know what else to look for beyond scale and increased lifts. To my untrained eye nothing was changed until I started doing check-ins with a coach that taught me what to look for. Also I just finished a powerlifting block and could really use some unilateral training. Thanks for the great content

You're podcast definitely helps keeping me accountable with my health and fitness goals. I've never been in a position to hire a coach, not just because of the money but because of trust issues with their knowledge (especially here in Guatemala) but you guys are as close as I've come to having coaches and it's made a gigantic difference. Also, I try to not use you guys as a crutch but you definitely help stave off the occasional boredom with workouts.

Thank you so much for the content you guys put out. Last quarter I just focused on building a small Habit of working out. This quarter I intend to continue with slightly more volume and then finally start all the MAPS programs I’ve bought over last year starting with the RGB bundle. So this episode is very timely. I’ve been avoiding starting Anabolic because I fear I won’t have enough time for it 3 times a week but the lowering of the bar suggested is a real relief. Better to ask what you can do comfortably than setting unrealistic targets from a motivated state. LESS IS MORE!

I'm one of those lucky individuals who loves to move. I do at least a little every day and love it. I think that's the key, but if you're not raised that way, it can be very difficult. Since I was little, I was an athlete. My brother was more of the computer geek and artist. Our lifestyles are so completely different and he's not in love with movement and health the way I am. It's always a victory when I'm able to get him exercising a bit, but I don't think he's ever going to have the kind of relationship with fitness that I do. But hopefully one day!

I think there’s a tenth one: travel. My job requires me to travel at random points and that travel fatigues and breakdown of my environment is the issue. I like Adam’s point on being adaptable; ultimately all of these challenges point to a breakdown of momentum and that comes from not being adaptable in the face of the challenge. Goal for the year: be consistent and be adaptable.

18:28 I think it’s more about a fear mentality that everything they thought they wanted and were striving for actually isn’t the thing that will make them happy. It’s easier to say “I’ll be happy and I’ll FINALLY like/love myself when *insert arbitrary scale number here* instead of really reflecting and realizing there’s much more inner work that needs to be done-and that could translate to the physical, though it’s a different mindset-before they allow themselves to like/love themself and find happiness. That might sounds quacky, but I’ve realized it decently w the people I’ve trained over the years as a young CPT.

People in general are just not in tune with their bodies. They go though life as if things just happen and they have no control over it all. Things that really helped me keep up with fitness was paying attention to how engaging in regular physical activity improved me, from less anxiety, to better sleep, and just being more physically capable in daily life, etc. Improved looks & body composition was just a nice side effect that came along with the disciple over time.

Skipping exercise age progression - In 20’s cuz we party, hangovers, out late, In our 30’s cuz we get married & have kids, 40’s work & career, 50’s pain & injuries, 60’s cuz we skipped working out in our 50’s so now it’s really hard and in our 70’s everything caught up with us. Gotta keep at it throughout life so we’re not bed ridden in our 70’s.

When i started again with training after a few years of "rest" i went with a minimal habit building program. I printed out a calendar of the actual month (i am lying. I actually did it digital with OneNote) and set myself a easy reachable goal. My goal was to do 20 Minutes of "something". Doesn't matter what. Yoga, Pushups, KB Swings/Snatches/Presses, even just 20 Minutes of stretching i counted as completing the goal for the day. And after 20 Minutes of "something" i did a Cross in my Calendar. If i failed the goal i colored the day in the calendar red. So i got a visual motivation to avoid "red" as much as possible. After 4 month i didn't need the calendar anymore. Now almost 2 Years later i am still training almost daily for more than 20 minutes. Everyone who has problems with staying motivated i really recomend the minimal habit building program with a calendar.

This is the longest ive worked out consistently. Some of the things that worked: 1. sub to mind pump to be motivated and educated 2. dont look at a deadline (summer, holiday, event, etc) focus on daily goals and movement 3. reduce exercise variations. dont treat working out like a buffet. i just do 1-2 movement with the highest return. focus on functional movements 4. when i get lazy, i just stand up, walk, do lunges, squats and my blood pumps me to start moving more 5. in relation to number 4, just do 1 set and see how it will change your mindset 6. i use time in between meetings to insert an exercise set. if i have 15 mins, ill do squats and push ups. in a shift, i wouldve done 6 to 8 sets of each

On the progress blocker, it's not necessarily vanity that is the cause. In many cases, it's the identity incongruency. If someone lives a healthy lifestyle and is not looking healthy, they can't see themselves as a healthy person. They would even feel bad saying that their passion is exercise, when they don't look the part. Furthermore, their loss aversion will not be that strong, they will just feel the pleasure of bad habits...
@AaronMunt2 жыл бұрын
