For everyone wondering why 2 'torches' on some comparators are sometimes on, here is the explanation: honey starts dripping out of the hive/nest when there are 5 levels of honey made by the bees. Every time a bee goes to a flower, polunates and goes back in tje hive it adds 1 level. The comparator reads how much levels are in the hive and give off a signal strength with the same amount of strength as levels. You can see that there are 5 redstone dust leading to the dispensers (per hive) and when the comparator gives of 5 strength (the amount of honey in the hive when the you see the honey dripping) the dispensers and pistons will be activated, obtaining the honey. so, if a comparator is showing a signal, it is 1-4

For the people whose bees aren't coming out of the hives or nests in the nether/end, on singleplayer(not sure if this'll work on servers) I logged out with the chunk loaded, when I logged back in all of the bees instantly popped out, not sure why but it works(also note that i moved the mud flowers and glass forward a block to give room for bees to come out, I used 2 rows of hoppers and 2 rows of mud, this probably isn't necessary though.)

This still works in 1.20.2, and looks gorgeous with the new spore blossom change! You can now place moss blocks on the front of dispensers (above where the flowers are here) and then a spore blossom below those (in front of the beehives), then slab the hoppers. Thanks for the farm design Moretingz!

Ook, old schooler coming back after about a decade. So: this farm looks to need sheers and bottles restocked, right? Buuuuuut only very rarely? I don't need speed, cuz it will be loaded a lot and I don't need any of it. Basically I got a slot in the wall that would work well for a pretty farm, or I'll tuck a cactus one in there and maybe toss overflow into a bonemealer. If the bee farm isn't self sustaining long term (...I already add auto turnoff to farms in that wall like the Reed farm) then maybe it's best I find a different location.
@AvaLynn808
@AvaLynn808 6 ай бұрын
@@Pestilencemage You can just add another hopper system pointing to the dispensers, so that you can just load 1 box with the bottles/sheers, and it'll just auto fill them when you want it to work. The bees and flowers will stay indefinitely, and the pistons only work when they have both bottles or sheers and honey in the hives to collect. Just a side note on the dispensers... they automatically use top left slot (like reading) first, and then continue checking each slot after that is empty. So, say if you wanted both honey bottles and honeycomb, it can, but it'll use whichever (bottles/sheers) is first in the dispenser. If you use an autofill like I mentioned above, you may need to check the dispensers if you only want 1 or the other. The dispensers can also use enchanted sheers, which you can use to make them last longer.

For Bedrock players! I didn't read the description and built it in Bedrock.. with some small changes, I made it work. Extend the patch of mud by one row away from the hives and place the flowers on there. Bees don't come out in bedrock with a flower in front of the hive. Also place hoppers underneath this row, mine go back in the hoppers behind them. Don't place walls above the bees, they get stuck.. just use any full block. I also placed a row of redstone dust on top of the dispensers. Otherwise, it looks exactly the same. I think their pathfinding might be a bit different from Java.. it seems to go pretty slow, there's probably more efficient farms for Bedrock.. but it looks fine and it works.. Don't need much honey so I'm keeping it as it is. I'm still messing around with it, honey bottles don't seem to get picked up by the hoppers. Might only work with shears.

I tried building this on Bedrock edition, on the switch and of course it didn't work. I just read in the description its Java only. But, after an hour of tinkering I figured it out and made a very simple and functional solution. I scrapped all the sticky pistons and redstone and started new. I have repeaters hooked up to the dispensers directly in the back, and I built a pulse repeater and connected it up. (Quick search pulse repeater on YT like I did if you need to lol.) I had, (Still have.) a slight problem with hopper collection but I mostly fixed it, I placed the hoppers directly inbetween the flower grass block and the beehive and this catchs most of the honey comb. Im going to put down another row either under the flower grass block or the behive to see if that gets all of the honey comb. Havent messed too much with bottled honey, I know the dispensers fill the bottles with honey but I dont know how you would automate collecting them with hoppers. I dont know if bottled honey stacks, if so no problem. Its 3:30 am, and I'm done for the night lol. Either way, dont need bottled honey right now, just needed honey comb for waxing copper. Anywho, otherwise my own bedrock troubles, great tutorial :) I am on my way to building my Fallout inspired underground bunker again, thanks!

if the bees go into the hives but don't come back out when you place the hives then try making the mud and glass a block outwards. After that get rid of the old 8 flowers and put them on the new mud blocks. The bees should have 2 blocks in front of each hive if you did it right. Last thing is to place hoppers under the new mud blocks into the chests.

from building these before, there was always a chance that the items would fall behind the hive... i actually built a second rail collection system to get the ones that fell behind. I'm guessing that when the redstone signal fires the dispensers, it fires the pistons as well blocking the items from falling behind where they can't be collected by hoppers.
@malpkakefirek
@malpkakefirek Жыл бұрын
Actually I just watched the video linked in the description. The piston is there, so if your dispenser isn't full with empty bottles, a honey bottle would appear inside the dispenser. Next time the beehive gets filled, there's a chance the dispenser will fire out the honey bottle, and therefore not emptying the beehive. So the piston creates a clock, so the dispenser can throw out all honey bottles and eventually can empty the beehive.
@addman
@addman Жыл бұрын
@@malpkakefirekif I'm understanding correctly the sticky piston is a Latching switch that stays powered until no more honey
@malpkakefirek
@malpkakefirek Жыл бұрын
@@addman I don't know what a latching switch is. It gets powered on and off repeatedly until the beehive doesn't have any more honey inside. So if the dispenser throws out honey/wax, it gets triggered again until it uses shears/bottles. However, as I've seen, the pistons get bugged a lot. So I wouldn't build this design if you want something reliable. Instead I would just fill the dispensers fully, and even have hoppers to fill them with more bottles/shears, so all the items would get picked up by the hoppers and not dispensers, so the piston clock is no longer needed

The best thing about this design is that it doesn't lose any bottles. I'm not quite sure what the sticky pistons do here, but it works. I used a different design with hoppers below the bee hives and flowering azelea leaves in front of the hives for the bees to feed on. But some bottles ended up on the leaves so I added a hopper minecart below them and still I lost some bottles over long periods of time. Apperently they sometimes get thrown out on top of the dispensers. So I'm curious about how this piston design prevents that, but as I said: It works.

It's just not working at all for me on 1.20.1 The farm just won't do anything. The energy on the redstonse only goes up to level 4 when the combs are full, so the repeaters on top are never activated. I then tried shrinking the farm so it activates at level 4 instead, but then whenever one of the repeaters is activated it sends the whole farm into a loop that makes the dispensers drop everything they have into the chest... I rewatched the video to see if everything is correct, and it is afaict
@Purr5uer
@Purr5uer Жыл бұрын
Figured it. Well, sort of: - The 'not reaching level 5' issue wasn't solved and I have no idea why. But I found out why the machine was on loop when I tried work-arounds: The pistons are there to send the machine on a short loop until an actual scisors or bottle is used, to prevent the dispensers from using honey bottles they might have picked up. Problem is: I was using copper scisors from the mod 'Everything is Copper' on the farm. But for some reason they don't work the same as the vanilla ones for farms. - TLDR: Change modded scisors for vanilla ones and a lane of redstone for an extra lane of repeaters to get it to work.

very well done. Every other tutorial for this takes 20 minutes - I was afraid that meant this one would leave a lot out, but it was perfect. And even though other guys' videos are 3x as long, that's despite using jump cuts in editing so I have to waste time re-orienting myself since their guy is now in a different location and it's zoomed in so far that I can't tell where. Doing it all straight through in one take is perfect. And ty for explaining when it has to be exactly like you're doing it and when it doesn't, eg 'your block of choice'

can you use azalea leaves instead? and is mud necessary?
@ginafinnemann6656
@ginafinnemann6656 11 ай бұрын
Mud is used bc its not a full block, meaning hoppers can pick up items on top of the mud when the hopper is placed directly below the mud. If you use dirt or any other plantable block you would need to switch out the hoppers for hopper minecarts as they can also pull items through one layer of full block.

This is bunk? It does not need sticky pistons or repeaters if built right.
@malpkakefirek

The piston is there, so if your dispenser isn't full with empty bottles, a honey bottle would appear inside the dispenser. Next time the beehive gets filled, there's a chance the dispenser will fire out the honey bottle, and therefore not emptying the beehive. So the piston creates a clock, so the dispenser can throw out all honey bottles and eventually can empty the beehive.

this is SUUUUCH a satisfying farm to build, especially large .. I built it 64 wide and it was so satisfying to just use full stacks of everything ♥ love it, works like a charm. btw, if you place beehives that are already full before you put something into the dispensers, prepare for an intense light and sound show :D it scared me a lot

basically, the comparator gives a different output strengh depending on how full the hive is(of honey). when it reaches its max output strengh, that means the hive can be harvested. the dispenser only responds to the max output strengh, and so they activate. then the system resets so when the farm is full again it activates. the reason all the redstone can be linked is because the comparator sends a certain strenght, but because the redstone signal strengh diminishes every block it is away, only the redstone dust directly behind the comparator will reach the dispenser. hopefully that made sense

@LaurentYvanFrancis
@LaurentYvanFrancis Жыл бұрын
Without the piston, the comparator would trigger the dispenser a second time when the beehive gets empty. This way, the signal gets through only when the beehive is full and ready to harvest.
@malpkakefirek
@malpkakefirek Жыл бұрын
@@LaurentYvanFrancis that is incorrect. You're thinking of observers. The piston is there, so if your dispenser isn't full with empty bottles, a honey bottle would appear inside the dispenser. @zincberg
@zincberg Жыл бұрын
The blocks attached to the pistons get moved down and break the signal to the comparitor once the honey level reaches "5" ( the amount required to harvest)and the measurement from the hive starts at zero again when the honey has been removed by a bottle/sheers in the dispenser.

The slabs use is to block the bees from escaping the beehives. Since they don't have a "rest period" in the nether because it has no day/night cycle or weather, the bees would immediately leave the beehives once they are placed.

The farm doesn’t use observers but instead of them it uses comparators to findout honey level and when the honey level is max, they send a signal to dispensers.
@Sqwily
@Sqwily Жыл бұрын
And when the dispenser picks up honey, the honey level in the nest sets to 0 so comparator doesnt send any signal.
