I love doing yoga with Sherry! As a quadriplegic, my biggest challenge is balance because my core muscles are paralyzed. I believe yoga will be the solution to help me overcome it.

Thanks for posting this video. I work with military veterans 1 day/week providing a gentle exercise class and have used some of your exercises. I really like your gentle conversation and approach around the mind/brain connectivity. Best of luck to your other teacher in the video...Tami. I hope you are doing well.

My doctor suggested wheelchair/seated yoga for me. I am 48 and weigh 344 lbs. Couple my weight with sciatica and compressed disks and stiff knees I thought yoga, in any form, was out of the question for me. When I googled wheelchair yoga I found a donation only class here in my city and I saw this wonderful video of yours! I was able to follow in sync with you except those last few "rocket takeoffs" LOL Thank you so much for making this available to everyone here on youtube! Namaste and may the universe continue to bless you Sherry!

Hope things are progressing for you. There are also cardio workouts on youtube for that are seated or for people who use wheelchairs. Always best to do it at your own pace though.

You're not 'confined' to your wheelchair. I use one and negative words such as 'confined' restrict your potential.

Very good yoga stretches- will follow the steps with the elders I am working with as a recreation worker. They would like to do these. However hopefully the audio can improve as there is echo and words are sometimes vague to hear. 😊 Thanks!

k bal you are most welcome! Are you using a wheelchair? We gave lots more coming!!
@kbal14516 жыл бұрын
Yes, been using a wheelchair for 10 years. I'm now 50. Incomplete paraplegia. Have been active for the past 10 years sailing, wheelchair basketball, Pilates, cycling, swiming and kayaking. Had surgery (complete hysterectomy) 12 months ago and have been struggling getting back into exercise. Yoga looks like the way forward now :-)

A friend gave me Matt Sandford's book "waking" quite a while ago and I've been keeping the idea of yoga on the backburner for far too long. Thanks again for sharing :D

Good morning! Just stumbled upon this after my intense morning workout and it’s very good except for one thing, I couldn’t really hear the person despite me turning up the volume on my tablet!

Kia ora from new zealand.. I love your video sherry, and thank to tami for sharing as well.. I’m 60y/o guy with athetoid cerebral palsy on my left side and upper right; I also have dystonia movements, hypertonia and spasticity as well… I’ve been thinking of trying yoga to try and see if this might help me to relax some of the tightness in my shoulders, neck, upper back, but more so my very tight chest area…. I tried keeping up with you guys but you were too fast for me [my arms and leg flew everywhere] , but I think I could do better at a slower pace..thanks again for sharing this video, I’m gonna give mini adaptive chair yoga a good try …sending blessings to you all.. haere rā from mike

M H Hi Kia! So great to hear from you in New Zealand! Greetings from San Diego! I'm glad you're giving Yoga a try! I'll soon be filming an Adaptive Yoga session that is slower, so I hope you'll give it a try and let me know how it works for you. I agree that Yoga can help release some of your upper body tension. Remember to take deep breaths in and out with your movements because that signals the muscles to relax. Look forward to sharing more yoga with you! Blessings to you! Sherry❤️

@JustineShelton8 жыл бұрын
Hi Ashwini, I am a friend of Sherry and Tami and they asked me to respond to this comment. If you have someone who can help you, I would suggest lying on your back - if your bed it firm that would work great - have someone stack pillows so your legs can be supported - preferably with the thighs almost at 90 degrees and calves parallel to the bed supported by pillows behind them. If you can, place your arms in cactus pose - elbows bent at 90 degrees, upper arms out to the side of the body at 90 degrees (this will help align the thoracic spine). If your hands don't rest comfortably back on the bed, place a pillow under them (or rolled blanket) so they are not floating in mid air. Head can rest flat on the bed, but if it rolls back onto the crown place a pillow under your neck. Lie there and relax, slowly deepening the breath and lengthening the exhale. Stay as long as is comfortable (10 to 20 minutes would be ideal, if the arms fall asleep, bring them down by the waist). This will allow gravity to help align your spine in passive rest. Elevating the legs and lengthening the exhale are calming to the nervous system. I hope this helps!
