@Altek14 жыл бұрын
Glad I could help you out and that you liked the format. It's been a bit tricky getting used to the FP Blue since the stock turbo spooled way quicker. It was actually a better turbo than I thought but the external wastegate and absolute explosion of power from 3,500 and on makes the FP totally worth it. Happy boosting bro!

Well the 2017 doesn't have the same 2.5l motor, it's got the newer 2.0l that makes a few hp more than the previous one. I'm slightly jealous of that model since I've read it's like 40% more rigid than my model year. I bet you're having a blast driving it. You're right, manual is the only way to go with a WRX or STI. I play a lot of sim racing games with a full H pattern shifter and clutch setup. If you have the means, it's a great way of getting used to driving stick and paying attention to the road at the same time. Altek haha thanks. I have a full 6 speed / STI turbo swapped 05 LGT, brembos, forged pistons among many other supporting mods on E85. Fun daily but with a few headaches through the years. Rather than sell the thing I made the financial mistake to do a fully forged built block and heads. My logic was in in too deep and didn’t want to part out so I guess “Cuz race car bro?” 😂
@Altek14 жыл бұрын
Hahah bro! That's my exact logic, and it's not a smart direction to take. I'm too deep now. To sell it would admit defeat and I won't do that. Plus it's my first new car purchase ever, so my intention is to have it forever which I'm sure the car will make sure that's not the case. Sounds like your setup is pretty badass though. Hopefully the headaches are over. I got a little heavy on the throttle yesterday and my dam backed down to .5. I'm hoping it's just bad gas because I have no other red flags but we'll see where this goes.

I was under the impression that STI's had better internals than the WRX, thus they wouldn't have the problem... but maybe not? I guess it depends on what you did to it and how much you were hitting that sweet, sweet redline haha. I completely agree with you, pennies on the dollar, yet weirdly, i still think it's worth it (assuming you never, ever sell it). 511 is some serious power though, I know my 380hp is stupid fun, so now i'm jealous and need to keep going. Hey Jose, it's been some time and I forgot a lot of specifics outside of what's in this video, but around 1:25 in the video I mention an adapter for the top mounted intercooler. If I'm not mistaken, the typical route to get the turbo to the top mounted intercool wouldn't work, not sure if it was because of the new up-pipe and external wastegate setup. Did you happen to look into that at all? The only delete I recall doing otherwise was the TGV valves but I can't see those getting in the way of anything since they're internal. It's also possible we scraped whatever you're referring to on the engine rebuild and I wasn't fully aware.

@Altek14 жыл бұрын
Oh absolutely not. After it blew so early and after proper maintenance, I couldn't trust it. Manly Platinum rods and pistons, king racing bearings. My last two videos about my Scoobs go over the upgrades and how it drives. Thanks for watching bud.
@Smurph7894 жыл бұрын
Altek thanks going to watch those next. I had a 2013 hatch as well and motor popped. Since I’m an idiot I just bought the 2019 STi LOL. Same engine, most likely same problem but the new pistons may make a difference.
@Altek14 жыл бұрын
Hah well go easy on yourself. You had a 2013 WRX? Spun bearing? If so, it's criminal what Subaru got away with making shoddy cars but I digress. If I'm not mistaken, the STI, although being the same block does have stronger internals. Plus that car is sharp as hell and you get them fancy differentials to be able to drift, can't do that in my WRX.
@Smurph7894 жыл бұрын
Altek yes those EJ’s for essentially 14 years never changed. Kind of amazing how a basic tune could force the engine to pop. Either way these cars are fun and the most economical sporty cars to drive off the lot. I do miss the hatchback WRX I had since it had all the options (leather, sunroof, etc). I ended up getting a lot leftover base which was fine by me.

Those have been upgraded as well. I put a full list in another one of my WRX videos. Short of the tranny, I think I have all my bases covered.

Right on man. As long as you're not running a stupidly heavy clutch dont underestimate your 08-14 5 speed. 05-09 lgt 5 speeds are in the same boat. I've ran both in my 05 wrx and always ran the oem exedy clutches with 355whp and 350wtq. I had probably 15 drag strip launches on the 2010 wrx 5 speed and the clutch never slipped and trans held great. Keep in mind that I was also power shifting from 2-3 and 3-4 because I like to party. I think the key is running the stock clutches along with the redline lightweight shockproof topped with motul gear 300 for gear oil(andrewtech cocktail)
@Altek13 жыл бұрын
Haha, this guy likes to party! That made me crack up, hilarious. I have an ACT heavy duty clutch, does that qualify as stupidly heavy? I think it's strong but hopefully not "break your transmission" strong. I'm sure as hell not power shifting so I think I'll be fine for the long term. I do appreciate the info, you clearly have had more experience than I have. And I'm going to check out this cocktail you speak of, I've never heard of it but just looked it up. It sounds fun, I'm going to try it.
@eflem77083 жыл бұрын
@@Altek1 the cocktail is blue gold pretty much. Helps keep things put together. But as far as the act I'm not sure. Is it pretty chompy grabby? But the main question is, is it a full face disk or 6 puck. If its 6 puck that transmission is probably sweating
@eflem77083 жыл бұрын
@@Altek1 Oh and another fun fact/personal experience, my first 03 wrx developed not quite a grind but a crunch type sound shifting from third to fourth. No matter how fast or slow I would shift it. Yes I kept up with gear oil changes. Then I discovered the cocktail. Changed it and never heard that sound shifting ever again. But you are wise to not power shift. Because once you start it's extremely hard to stop. Its about as bad as opioids lol. Especially when you're racing and the car besides you starts to pull away. That foot wont come off the throttle to shift 🤣 gotta be a fast shifter though to be able to rev your car out and shift without hitting the limiter

DO you feel a difference in the map sensor ?
@Altek13 жыл бұрын
It was definitely better since my tuner was able to smooth out the idle and acceleration a bit more but I made so many changes at once, it was hard to tell. The biggest improvement came with the front mount intercooler. I was simply trying to push the car too hard while being heat soaked most of the time. Hope that helps.

@Altek14 жыл бұрын
I gave it a shot after they were initially kicked off the show and it was abysmal. It was weird to see another set of hosts try the same framework, I felt like it belonged to the original trio and it felt forced with anyone else. Chris Harris and Matt Leblanc were good but still didn't give Top Gear the same pizzazz. The last episode of The Grand Tour where Jeremy broke down saying they weren't even going to do the tent was the true end of an era for those three. At least I have 22 seasons on hand of damn good content. Maybe I'll do a couple of more references for fun in the future.

Buying a built car is your suggestion? Yea.... no. Already built most likely means the car was beat on. You have no idea how hard the previous owner pushed the car. And you'll never know for sure if the building process was done correctly. And if it wasn't done correctly, it'll give you headaches and labor cost. Build the car in a way you want to.
@Altek12 жыл бұрын
A built car definitely means it was beat on, that's why it's built. I did specify to buy one you know was built right because unless it's Carol Shelby himself (rip), there's no way the car will sell as much as said person put into it. In my case it cost around $25k for all the work I put into it without the cost of the car itself. It would sell maybe 1-2k more than a used stock WRX, so any second hand buyer of a modded car is making out like a bandit. Even if they have to put something into it, short of an entire engine rebuild, won't cost them as much as it would if they did it themselves. Unless you can do the work yourself, then you'd save thousands and then yeah, my idea doesn't pan out so well. I'd only buy a modded car second hand if it was built by my boy Rick. That man is a perfectionist (@rpt_creations).
