Police Officer Jamal Mitchell was shot and killed after being ambushed while responding to a shooting call. Just after 5:00 p.m., officers responded to a shots fired call at an apartment on 22nd Street near Blaisdell Avenue in Minneapolis. When officers arrived, the suspect fired at officers, and a gunfight ensued. Officer Mitchell stopped to render aid to who he thought was a wounded victim when that man shot him multiple times. Two officers arriving on the scene witnessed the suspect shooting Officer Mitchell. The suspect turned and started shooting at them. They returned fire, killing the suspect. Two shooting victims were found at the scene. One was pronounced dead, and the other died 11 days later. Another officer and firefighter were wounded with non-life-threatening injuries. An innocent bystander was also shot. Officer Mitchell was transported to Hennepin Healthcare where he succumbed to his wounds. Officer Mitchell had served with the Minneapolis Police Department for two years. He is survived by his son and fiancée. On Officer Mitchell's third day working for the Minneapolis Police Department, he rescued an elderly couple from a burning home. In 2024, he was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor and a Purple Heart.

As former officer, some of the worse calls are these exact types. Get a call for shots fired, and a lot officers despite training roll in hot with out scoping the area first, this is what leads to ambushes. Since the BLM movement and the defund the police, DV ambushes and shot fire ambushes are becoming all to common. Got to point I have notice that they just send out a drone before even entering a area. Soon, people will start wondering why police took so long to respond, and will be a simple answer. When the streets and homes are use to ambush police like a military operation, police are going start taking precatiouns. You want your streets cleaned up, either start working with police or get the hell out of way and stop playing the victim.
@clutchcitystreets33684 ай бұрын
😂😂😂 bro stop it. I’m a cop still in the streets. NOBODY is sending in a drone for an in progress shooting. You must have been in the suburbs somewhere, if ya’ll were doing that. RESPECTFULLY! That first officer responded the way that 99.9% of us would have. Only way to avoid being ambushed by what you perceive is to be a GSW victim is to call in sick. I don’t mean any disrespect, but let’s not throw shade at a man who was trying to save a life, then gets killed by what turned out to be an asshole who wanted to ambush the police.

Agreed. When my dad was a night shift supervisor/sgt and one of his Officers are on the radio saying “Shots fired shots fired!” He always thought the worst and he’d be losing one of his men. In his 35+ years as a Police Officer he’s had to say goodbye to two of his fellow officers. Lost his best friend while responding to a officer needs assistance call on his police motorcycle when a lady ran a red light and struck him. Then in 2002 one of his officers on his shift was killed. Then when they were next to that one downed shooter and the downed cop the pain may have started to register that he "really got shot" instead of grazed, he may of reached his hand over his wound to check where the pain was coming from and pulled his hand up and that is when he seen the blood coming from himself. If they didn't respond and something actually did happen, they'd still be prosecuted by the DA's and other local lawmakers. The police there are seriously in a really bad damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. They really can't win. If they shoot someone defensively and objectively justifiably, they are still highly at risk of going to prison in different counties in that state.
