I try to educate my brothers all the time on how refreshing it is to be outside the US confines. As a black engineer in the auto industry I've traveled to Japan, Argentina, Brazil, Canada and Mexico many times. The treatment if I could compare it to any is that of a celebrity. People are naturally curious and embrace you. In Argentina, women would literally walk up and touch me and take pictures with me. I'm heading to the Philippines next year and I can't wait!

MyGod. Lol. I've been asked about this like 100 times. Its bullshit. Western media spinning the truth. It's an immigration crackdown before the election. There hasnt been one black person here legally kick out or arrested. The unfortunate reality is a good number of native Africans in Thailand are skirting the law and overstaying. And they make for easy targets as they stand out. That's the truth. Thailand is targeting everyone staying illegally in Thailand. And that includes black folks that happen to be a visible group.

This is excellent! I am a 35 year old African American man from Bronx, NY and I am about to solo travel for the first time in September. I am going to Amsterdam, Berlin, Vienna, Budapest and then flying to Thailand. I plan to stay in hostels in Europe and Airbnb in Thailand. I say all this just to explain that you and Jubril answered a lot of my questions regarding traveling as a black male. I would have done the trip anyway, but you guy's videos made me feel way more comfortable. I would have never considered hostels, if not from your vlogs. I am sure I will find so many like-minded people in hostels being an individual that loves different cultures.There are a lot of black female vloggers (which is wonderful) but not many males, which is understandably a completely different prospective. Sometimes it makes you comfortable to learn things from an individual with a background similar to your own. Basically, I just want to thank you for what you do. Peace and continue the good work educating people! PS one thing to touch on one day is minority parents not encouraging their children to travel due to fear. I been on my own since leaving college, even have my own business and my single mom is still nervous about me solo traveling. LOL

I've traveled to Japan on many occasions and have lived and worked there at 1 point. To piggyback onto how articles say that countries outside of the US are racist and terrible for black people, they are all full of shit. I read many articles on how "Japan is a racist country" for blacks, but I've personally never experienced any of it. Not to say that people may or may not experience it, but the media and these articles spew out bullshit. Watching this video further confirmed for me that a lot of countries outside of the us are not racist places. I'm glad i found your channel and keep up the good content

It's not even CLOSE. What makes the U.S. so bad is the blatant denial. What make some places with histories of racism, like South Africa, different is they've acknowledged it and are at least trying to figure a way forward. Not only does our country refuse to acknowledge the vestiges of slavery but brothers are still being shot like dogs. It's nuts. You'll be fine. Sure, you'll get the stares and cat calls (maybe), but it's not even close to being anywhere near the level of racism and ignorance you see at home. Especially given your mobile status.

I liked all of the video. I will highlight a couple of points. 1. Yes, poor people are the most open minded. This is the most humbling thing I have experienced while traveling. 2. The USA is the most racist country I have known. One reason I travel is to get relief from US racism. 3. Mass media distorts our perceptions of other people and distorts their perception of us. I am disgusted and frustrated by MTV, CNN and Hollywood productions.

+Gary Graves pretty much. I don't hate mass media. I get it. And honestly, we still need them. I feel people have gotten lazy. Another great topic my brother. I’ve started traveling solo couple years ago and I’ve found that ppl were curious, some were respectful and genuine, some perpetuated the common hip hop stereotypes and some were super racists. With that in mind, I’ve started To be careful on where I spend on money - currency is power. Also, I’ve always been aware of current political climate. The most profound thing about traveling, is when you have conversation with someone about their view of life. At some point, you will realize how much we are blessed. This conversations are definitely moments that you cant forget. Once again, thx for sharing brother.

I've seen a lot of videos on youtube where black people from America were complaining about the issues they had when they come back to their country..They went to work in Europe, Asia, Australia,etc...and when they came back the (re)accommodation was very hard because they were confronting again the problem of racism, problem that was forgotten when they were out from U.S..I don't understand this situation, I live in a country in Europe where is quite a little number of black people living, but even we are not accustomed with them, they are always welcomed, I can say we treat them better than we treat each other :p many of us see them special, maybe because we don't see them so often and we are curious to discover them, to connect with them...A country like America where black people are something normal like the sun in the sky should not have any type of these stupid issues ...I mean, I can't imagine America without black people..

I am AA woman from NYC. I couldn't agree more about the racism here. I just got back from, Switzerland, Portugal and Germany. I had no problems. People were generally nice and the older people curious. I went to China and Thailand 7 months ago and it was my first time. My husband and I are gonna spend our winter there! I rode the subway alone in Bangkok. Not even a glance. They loved my cornrows. The inquiries were curiosity not hate. Just had a friend ask me about the racism in Italy she had heard about. I told her about my experiences. It was good and that she should go for it. Black people stop buying Jordan's, $1000 TVs and iPhones and get a passport. It can be cheaper to travel than you think if you change your spending habits.

I've been called the N-word once in NYC (by a hispanic friend who was drunk), two or three times during my time growing up in Switzerland (by children) and two or three time during my one year spent living in Poland. I've heard the most racist things said about African immigrants in Europe, the type of things you won't hear in the US. in Eastern Europe they have a super high percentage of neo-nazis that blend in the football(soccer) culture and street gang culture, you have a high risk of running across such groups and either being insulted or even jumped. Or, as the case of the African American recently beaten to death in greece by a group of Serbian tourists, killed. It's possible to mostly avoid experiencing this on your own, but because I have a pretty white girlfriend, THAT"s when a lot of this stuff comes out. So I think it's just plain wrong to say that the US is the most racist place on earth. FRom NYC to Virginia, to Florida to Texas, I've never experienced racism. But abroad I've experienced it a handful of times. Nothing to cry about, but I imagine if I was african instead of AMerican it would be much worse.
@joaosantos-op3df
@joaosantos-op3df 7 жыл бұрын
Compte Prive So you start off with personal experiences and finish off with "real" racist experiences which we are unclear if you were personally a part of. I mean, were you really there when the Serbians killed that man or was that an anecdote which plenty of people of opposing views can counter with their own anecdote? The point is, someone's personal experience may be true and just because it isn't what you see on TV (sorry bro but let's be real, do you have video of you with the Serbian? No) doesnt make it less true. So yes someone may have had a more racist experience in the US than anywhere else in the world. Does that necessarily make it the most racist? No. Does it mean it's not? Also no. "The most racist" is like "the funniest" in that it is subjective. Unless you've found an objective metric of racism which we'll all agree upon (virtually impossible) then your opinion is just valid or invalid as the opposing opinion.

As a afro-brazlian woman I feel extremely well traveling. The US and Brazil are champions of racism. (I lived in the US for a while). Once I left Brazil to live in Europe I noticed how people didn't care about skin color (generally speaking, random racists will always exist everywhere). And it is true that I get more male attention in a good way. I'm not in the dating game since I'm married, but I totally notice the difference. I was one time in the countryside of Switzerland in an elderly couple's house and I was a bit nervous of their reaction when they'd see I was one of their guests and their reaction was just no reaction. Just normal. We talked about Brazil and traveling etc. If I was in the same situation in the countryside of my home state in Brazil I'd be treated completely different. Great video!

BlueSkies11 diverse and racially mixed does not mean no racism. Unlike North America there was no civil rights movement in Brazil. The blacker you are the less well your treated and I dont mean black foriegners who go there. They might be treated better but they dont live there. Id rather live in Europe than Brazil. The cooler parts are Bahia which has a higher black amd mixed population than Sao Paulo or Rio. Bahia african descendant black people are descendants of enslaved Nigerians and Angolans and other west africans so they have a respect for th3ir african heritiage ans practice their own version of tradtional religions. But there are still some racist people and colorism too. Just like in America and Canada. But Canada is less overt like Uk.And it just depends on who you meet and how much exposure they have had to black people.

Minority Nomad .....both overt and covert🤔🤔🤔🤔, was not prepared for that, but it’s common sense being the USA is literally built on a racial and financial caste system. So I just gave you an example of fear mongering by my Fear of East Europe, not completely unfounded but overblown. The racism that you talk about that is more reflective of culture or inexperience is less offensive to me as there is usually less malice in the intent and more ignorance or lack of critical thinking. I try and tell my friends, of all races, but mostly others from our community how learning another language opens up a giant door of opportunities in every realm. Do you know any other languages or are you studying any. Do you have any in mind that you think are more practical than others? Outside if English, I would think Spanish, German, French or Russian. The only reason I left out Mandarin and Arabic is as an adult they take more of a commitment and will take much longer even with full immersion. Thoughts? I’ll DM you if these are getting too involved.

First and foremost African Americans abroad are treated differently to Africans. Once an African American speaks with his accent or says he is American he is somewhat respected, whereas the African is viewed negatively ie. illegal immigrant, drug peddler, prostitute, asylum seeker etc. I have lived and travelled in towns in East Germany with my German husband and visited his family often in the holidays.The blatant racism was abhorrent and I experienced it each time at immigration, train stations, in the streets, shops and restaurants. My fellow Kenyans who were students there knew their place and when they experienced racism they just accepted it because they were living there. I also lived in England for over 10 years and did not experience much racism since I lived in London, although the Brits are known to be polite and political correctness is the order of the day, so they will not be perceived as being overtly racist like the Germans who show it openly. Lastly, I believe that African Americans have better opportunities than Black British. I know alot depends on the state one lives in but generally racism against African Americans in the US as compared to the UK is nominal in terms of job opportunities and advancement in careers including politics. If you look at the number of black actors, black politicians, black millionaires and billionaires, professors, judges in the US this cannot be compared to Black British in the UK, and many Black British move to the US to seek better opportunities. As an immigrant I believe both the African Americans and Black British have it easy compared to Africans even those born in the US and UK, due to the negative perspective against Africans sometimes even facing discrimination from their fellow black brothers the African Americans and Black British Africans/Caribbeans.

So I live in Germany and while I've experienced my fair share of racism here (usually thrown in with a hefty dose of sexism) it's different I think for Black people when you compare it to the US. The racism we deal with in Germany now is largely directed towards refugees from Syria and anyone who looks Turkish, or Middle Eastern. Racist American media is focused on Black people while the racist German media is focused on refugees. Germany may be less appalling for a Black American but for refugees it could still be considered a dangerous and troubling time. Basically what I'm very slowly getting at is that Germany is actually rife with racism, just directed largely on another group outside of you and I. There are a lot of Germans who want safety for refugees but there's still a growing number of bigots and xenophobes who want the complete opposite. And yeah, it may be cool as a heterosexual man to get a lot of women coming up to you but as an Asian woman I learned from a pretty early age when to cut a conversation COMPLETELY off. So many men (not just white dudes) with yellow fever. It's pretty appalling actually and while I can understand why many men (and even Asian women who live in Asian countries) don't see the problem in this, for me personally it made me give up on trying to find a partner for so long because I just couldn't deal with the racist sexism. It just felt impossible. So many men continue to vilify Asian women for the decisions we make. When we don't accept yellow fever we're prude haughty bitches. When we do date a non-Asian we're race traitors. When we date another Asian we're racist against non-Asians. On a side note, have you ever been in a predominantly Black country and had people not believe you when you say you don't speak their language? I swear, every Asian country I've been to there's always a handful of people that think I'm fucking with them when I say I only speak English. They give me that look like "Why are you making such an effort to mess with me?" and they keep talking in their language and I'm just sitting there like "HOW DO I EXIT THIS."

I agree. Which is why I tell people to be aware of their privilege. As a black American I might not see the racism towards immigrants in Germany but when someone tells me it exists I should acknowledge that and research. I can't agree with you when you say Germany is "rife" with racism. You live there full time and I'm only there part of the year. However, I would say Germany isn't worse that most European countries. I will say that the anti-immigrant groups or people are just damn louder. Just my view but I don't discount your lived experience. I don't understand your position on "yellow fever"? I cringe a bit when people say that the same way I cringe when people say "jungle fever". Attraction to a different race doesn't have to be compartmentalized into this fetish based nomenclature. People are attracted to whom they are attracted to. Again, I don't understand what you mean by accept "yellow fever". Please explain. Either you date men that aren't asian or you don't. It's not that complicated, and anyone that takes issue either way is full of shit. We have the same, you should stick with your own people rhetoric in the black community. Apparently I look more Spanish that black. Colombians, Brazilians, Chileans, and Argentinians REFUSE to believe I'm not from South America and fluent in Spanish. lol

Very interesting prespective you have Zee. Its a shame most people judge by race/gender like that. just remember to do what makes YOU happy regardless of what others think. If asian guys think youre a sell out for dating a white, black or other guy then that is THEIR problem. Your own right to happiness is first. Ignore the idiots that try to fetishize you and get mad when you dont play along. They are idiots. It is your right to reject them if youre not interested. Anyway I hope you find happiness. :)

I really appreciate your videos as they seem very objective. Overall I do agree with your assessment but I think the reason black people don't travel is because there is no introduction at an early age enough to realize your block is not your world. I think because of recent events that is changing at rates unimaginable. I would love for you to recap how you began to travel and what obstacles if any proved surmountable.

Oh I agree. Lack of early exposure is just one of the issues. I've spoken at length about my journey into this lifestyle on this channel and my blog. ALL obstacles have been surmountable. But I'm just that kind of person. Obstacles are just opportunities to learn. bit.ly/2hmZ6ym

It's not a popular opinion, but I too think black women can leverage our "exotic" looks to our advantage when abroad, similar to what black men do. it's just common sense to me lol. you see so many "blond abroad" or "blue-eyed gypsy" branded blogs....why not do the same? I think Trump being in office will be a GOOD thing for black travelers, again not a popular opinion so I won't go into too much detail :) not a fan of anyone using the n-word, and I can't count how many times in the usa nonblack people tell me they can use it since so many black men use it. I no longer get emotional about it and when people see it doesn't bother me, they drop the topic.

+ediyie I know a lot of sisters that use their "exoticism" to their advantage. I just had a conversation about this in a travel group where some women were "surprised" at the love they received abroad. It had to be pointed out that this fetishism doesn't always come from a positive place but women can use it to their advantage. At this point, the use of nigga has become so ridiculously convoluted that I can't say anything to anyone using it. All I can do is try not to use it.

Can you tell me a little bit about settling down or having a "home base"? Do you have some place you primarily maintain while you travel? Seems like you're rarely in the states, so I wonder if you have anywhere you actually consider "home"? Do you maintain any basic necessities in one place rather than placing belongings in storage, or do you live from a suitcase primarily? I guess that goes against the idea of being a "nomad", but I was wondering if have a place you regularly just chill at for a few months before hitting the road again?

I have places in Asia and Europe that I maintain and use as hubs. You may have noticed that this year has been all Europe and Asia. 2016 has been a different year as my various businesses are starting to take off and require a bit of stability (address for shipping, reliable internet for skype meetings, etc). Before I was suitcase hustling. Say 3 years of that. Now, I'm just too deep professionally to live that way anymore. Plus I have to wear suits more often and that doesn't exactly work with a backpack. I'm at my Asia base until March. Then on the road most of the summer then back to my Europe base before returning to Asia late 2017 tentatively. Of course this is all client and project driven.

Thanks for sharing man. I have 1 year of school left and I want to start transitioning out of the corporate environment so I can start traveling abroad. I am very interested in getting into the digital nomad lifestyle. The most difficult thing is probably figuring out what the hell I can do to make money! lol. I have a health insurance background and i'm sure I can consult on SOMETHING. Just not sure what yet.

B-Eazy honestly, don't worry about the digital nomad thing. make international travel a priority and it'll come. most of my friends aren't digital nomads. Most are expats. With jobs and families abroad. If you decide to try and make money online, EXECUTE. Make a plan and do it. I've seen hundreds of people talk but very few are willing to put in the 18 hour days to make things happen.

B-Eazy HELL NO!!! Passport privilege. It's a pain in the ass but i'll never permanently live anywhere outside of the U.S. to the point where my American passport/citizenship wouldn't be beneficial. I'm a traveler. I might be off the road a couple of months but in the end, I'm traveling.

+Yele 360 "minority" goes beyond skin color. Socio economics, nationality, and sexuality all play a role in a persons marginalization. Within the human race, maybe not. In American society, absolutely. Matter of perspective and circumstance.

Minority Nomad In other words, you mean minority as in marginalized from the mainstream. Completely valid and correct. Yeah, on the fetishing... I think its a bad thing, if ur a black woman u shouldn't be fetishized if ur a black male u probably like it but if you want a strong loving relationship, u shouldn't date someone who only likes you for your race...
@Minoritynomad
@Minoritynomad 7 жыл бұрын
Well this is a bit complicated. Everyone festishizes. From fat asses to money. There's something about the other person that attracts you. Even within your own race. I would raise a question to you. Is it wrong if a person only likes you because of your race if you're the same race? Personally I don't believe there's a right or wrong answer to this. All about the individuals in the relationship of course.

Minority Nomad Well ppl choose what they are similar to, "birds of that feather flock together". Do you think you'll be likely to start a friendship with a brother or a white guy? But that question about liking someone bc of their race if they're ur race is an intriguing question, That's something that'll come in my head while I try to sleep at night, Thx for the reply!

Minority Nomad Completely agree. Attraction has many factors. Sometimes one attraction grows into another. There is nothing wrong with that and the only problem is when someone sees you purely as an object and not as a person BUT if they are really attracted to you plus have a fetish for you, its all gravy.

Well look at your point! That is why Black folks dont desire to go to Bucharest, or Budapest, or Bankok or Medeilin, cause when we "be " around wealthy folks in Italy or the UK, or France or Germany we dont get that, fact we find college educated wealthy , that, have a better global understanding in those nations, and as that case less corruption then in Thailand, Hungary and Colombia, fact most Black folks reall when we do the research dont care much about cost of travel, then quality of life, so we would spend more to go to Norway or Switzerland regardless of how much we could save in a totaly corrupt place like Romania, now matter how mice it looks
