Hey dude, Finally learned to do a tripod headstand without wall support this week, with definite room for improvement in form. Eventhough I'm pretty satisfied with myself for how far I've come, achieving this just made me belive more in the fact that if I put mind to it, pretty much anything can come within my grasp. The fact that I'm able to do things now, that I thought was impossible, is pretty cool. But the more things I do and moves I unlock, I know internally that this isn't enough. The hunger grows. I think everybody who's progressing can empathise with this feeling. So imma keep on grinding and keep on going hard at it. I wish everybody that is on the same journey the strength to keep progressing. Just remember how far you've come, and how long we still have to go. So thanks for this amazing playlist dude, I will work thru this playlist and hopefully can achieve a proper handstand in the near future. Cheers, Akshay

@MinusTheGym3 жыл бұрын
It takes a lot of practice. Have patience and be persistent :) My best recommendation is to practice it a few inches in front of a wall so you can’t fall backwards, only back down to your feet. As you extend the knees, press the feet up towards the ceiling to gently contract the thighs, plus tighten your core. Eventually you’ll find the “sweet spot” where you can extend the knees, squeeze the core, thighs and glutes, and feel that tension holding you inverted in front of the wall without even touching the wall. And once you can consistently hold it in front of the wall like that, then you’ll feel ready to move away from the wall and hold it out in the open. I hope that all helps, but biggest takeaway is: practice :)

@MinusTheGym7 ай бұрын
Two things you can do. First option is to keep practicing. The backs of your arms get used to it after a few weeks or so of practice (at least mine did). The other option is to rest your knees on the outsides of your upper arms so the knees are not digging in at all. Lots of people like that second option 😊

Legs bend at the knees and feet come back down to the floor the same way they went up. The feet may fall fast at first, but as your core strengthens you’ll be able to bring them down gently.

When you do a headstand, should you be pushing with your hands constantly to maintain balance or is there a sweet spot where you can maintain balance without much effort? I can stay in the headstand position if I don't move my legs too forward and keep pushing with my hands. Every time I try to move my legs closer to the wall so I don't have to push with my triceps, I lose balance and my feet touch the wall. Is trying to move my feet forward to reach effortless balance a wrong idea or is it just I haven't found the balance point?
@phutran39434 жыл бұрын
Hi James, I am also practicing this, I dont know if we are at the same level or not but here is my experience. I dont need to use much of my hands to push, most of the weight is on the head and I feel very comfortable with it, when I raise my hip and legs up, the weight tends to ship toward the back and I may fall to the wall, I suggest working on the abs and the hollow position to feel the core, then you can control the balance of your body. I hope this will help. Good luck on the practicing.

I injured my left shoulder last October while walking my dog after a heavy rainfall. I slipped on some web mud and landed right on my left side. Ouch! Since then I can't do the regular Yoga headstand, but with some patience and practice I was able to get back to the Tripod headstand. It is a great pose! I wish I could hold it longer than a minute, but for now I can just hold the pose for about a minute at a time. Some lady at my gym told me a few years ago that the inversion poses are really good for the heart. Are there are any scientific studies to confirm that? What's your opinion of teeter tables and gravity inversion boots? What's your opinion of Yoga?

You 100% can’t break your back doing this unless you have very weak bones or are old and decrepit. It is scary and the wind does get knocked out of you, but you can’t break your back. Try to roll by curling your body

Tomáš Husa yeah I was finding it difficult to know whether I was weak on my balance and stability or I was purely lacking the strength but the more you work on your core the more likely strength and balance will come. Conversely, id also recommended focussing on your lower back as this will aid with the negative contraction of the movement alongside your core 👍

@MinusTheGym3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the neck will adjust. When you first start practicing and resting your head on the floor, make sure you are supporting more weight with your hands and arms than your head is. As your neck gradually strengthens you can shift more weight to the head to balance out the tripod.

How do you do your head stand without your shoulders hurting afterwards????
@MinusTheGym4 жыл бұрын
You should be pressing evenly into the ground with your hands so the tripod is stable. The tripod is made up of your hands and top of head. If you feel a lot of pressure on your shoulders, you may want to regress back to the frogstand and work on building up strength there more. And honestly, as you work on the transition from frog to head stand, if you get your hips high enough for a straight vertical head stand, you shouldn't really feel much pressure on the shoulders at all. The majority of the pressure should be coming straight down the hands and top of head (tripod). It's all about working in front of a wall for support and getting those hips up stacked above your shoulders. Hope that makes sense.

Navina Anand it takes a lot of practice and is a bit tricky. I would get my head on the floor in front of the wall and keep trying. Knowing the wall is there to catch me was helpful and allowed me to use a little momentum at first. Also, it's important to stack your body optimally. Focus on shifting your hips back so they're stacked directly above the shoulders and head. The more vertically stacked you are, the easier it will be to get up into the full headstand.

A few minutes is a long hold time. Nice job! You may want to work on subtly shifting the load more to the arms/hands. It sounds like you’re doing great, but since you’re doing such long holds you want to make subtle tweaks to share the load more with the rest of the upper body so the neck isn’t taking so much burden.
@MinusTheGym4 жыл бұрын
Also... it might just require more time to let the neck strengthen more. I’m not sure how long you’ve been doing headstands but my neck has definitely strengthened over the years I’ve been doing them.
