I'm struggling with the confidence to kick hard enough to get upside down...
@MinusTheGym5 жыл бұрын
Michael Colbourn I did too. It took me some time. Keep consistent with your practice and you'll gradually see improvement. Continue working on frog stand, head stand and pike push-ups, too. The more strength you build in the wrists, forearms and shoulder girdle, the more confidence you'll have to hold yourself upside down on the wall. Also, hip mobility can really hold you back if you're struggling to raise a leg up behind you, so you may want to work on your hip mobility too if you feel tight in the hamstring/groin area when kicking up.

@jiggyasagupta43275 жыл бұрын
i am stuggling with that hop up to the wall too.. would you share any advises
@MinusTheGym5 жыл бұрын
Jiggyasa Gupta it's hard to be precise without seeing your form but I'll try to help. Make sure you have decent hip extension mobility for starters. The higher you can raise a leg backwards, the easier it will be to get yourself inverted. Also, the leg that stays on the ground needs to have a certain level of strength to help launch you up. My beginner routine video can help develop that leg strength. If you have the hip mobility and leg strength, then you'll also need to look at your shoulder mobility/strength too. You want to have the ability to raise your arms straight overhead without arching your lower back. The more vertical your arms can be, the easier it will be. And of course, you'll need the straight-arm strength to hold yourself upside down. Regarding the straight-arm strength... work on pike push-ups (hips piked in the air to target shoulder strength) and lock out into full scapular elevation at the top of the movement. That will help a lot. And lastly... practice practice practice! :) It took me a lot of practice kick ups before I was able to get upside down against the wall, and even when I did, it was sloppy. The more you practice, the faster you'll get better at it and build the strength. I hope that helps!

I can get to 60 degrees vertical, but really having difficulty walking back the 2 more feet on my hands to the wall because my shoulder fails holding my body weight on one arm. Would it be my serrated anterior that is failing my shoulder? (I can bench press my body weight (175 lbs) and do 15+ pull-ups). If my SA is the issue, I assume I should work on holding one arm planks and then working on them on a decline? Any suggestions or input?
@QntraMiiys5 жыл бұрын
I think you just have to practice till your shoulders are strong enough
@MinusTheGym5 жыл бұрын
Norman Huefner there are a lot of muscles in play here with straight-arm strength (triceps, biceps, deltoids, traps, etc.) but yeah, the serratus anterior is the prime mover to hold you up properly. Working on single-arm planks will help, but I also recommend working on building overhead pressing strength in a pike. For example, try holding a downward dog yoga pose and really elevate the scapulae while doing so, meaning press hard into the floor so your shoulders are right by your ears. That scapular elevation comes from the serratus. Work on building that up along with the planks. And once you can hold a good pike (down dog) with your scapulae elevated, try doing it with your feet elevated so you're on a steeper angle. This all will help you get those last couple feet in towards the wall.

Kilgore Trout it's kind of the same as a bail out for a freestanding handstand. Turn/twist and drop the legs (feet first) to the floor at your side. You have to push off with the arm opposite of the side you're falling/twisting towards. It's like half a cartwheel, basically.
