LYRICS:
Ode To Fury Gavin Dunne 2018
Bellows of pain
And scraping of chains
The echoes they taunt and deceive me
Oceans of blame
And rivers of shame
The fury it never leaves me
Grief in the snow
The winter of woe
Has come here to judge and bereave me
Lock up the rage
It rattles the cage
The fury it never leaves me
Always within
To lurk in the skin
The wounds ever aching so deeply
Try as I may
To hide it away
The fury it never leaves me
Long I’ve suffered the hunger
Long I’ve silenced the cry
Long I’ve fled from the thunder
To ascend
Still I try
To carry the pain
To keep it contained till the end
Pour out the anger and hide it away
Lest it spill to the blameless and lead them to pain
In the steel and the rags I will cover the shame
So the innocent need not be judged in my name
Long I’ve suffered the hunger
Long I’ve silenced the cry
Long I’ve fled from the thunder
To ascend
Still I try
To carry the pain
To keep it contained till the end
Bellows of pain
And scraping of chains
The echoes they taunt and deceive me
Oceans of blame
And rivers of shame
The fury it never leaves me

This moment, hel, this entire sequence of the game was one of those times when I found intense personal meaning. Kratos is haunted by the past and so am I. While my past is not as dark and bloody as his, my past is trying to shake off the demons of abuse, addiction and the myriad ways my family's neglect and bullying fucked me up. This sequence was a facing the past moment. He found the strength to face his, I can find mine. My mother said something similar to me and I gave that exact response

I actually interpreted this line differently. This part comes off as softer than the rest of the music. So, "...long I've suffered the hunger, long I've silenced the cry," to me reads as, "I just want to be loved and love in return" Because that's basically what Kratos's story has been about, love and grief. In the original games, Kratos's entire character arch was about killing the gods, the reason he killed his own family. He was a grieving man, and the slaughter of the Olympians was a representation of Kratos finally moving on from his grief. I haven't played the norse God of War yet, but based on the clips I've seen and the fact that it's a continuation of Kratos's story, it seems to me like he's FINALLY coming/has come to terms with it and is healing from it

After listening to both this and "A Father's Arms" I've come to the conclusion that the songs are from Kratos and Atreus' differing viewpoints. In "A Father's Arms" we see how Atreus sees Kratos. Powerful, mighty, unstoppable. A force of Nature, his power swelling with the music. In this song we see how Kratos sees himself. A solemn and steady beat, the rage and fury boiling beneath the surface. No longer something to be exalted, but to be honed and used. Two great songs that work even better together!

Taucron Heretic Agreed. Music is an extremely powerful thing. It can provoke emotions from us in ways nothing else ever could seek to achieve. It can speak on profoundly deep levels and can even sway each of us in a single direction. What direction that is, however, is left to how the music itself resonates with us. Many people never realize it, but music is one of the most powerful forces in this world. Alongside this, it can also assist us in saying many things we would otherwise fail to properly communicate to each other. (Sorry if I got carried away with that. It was the only response I had.)

I like this one a lot. I dont explicitly know God of Wars story line, but the lyrics them selves I relate to in one way or another. Im a sucker for music of personal suffering and triumph told elegantly, but Gavins approach using catharsis and healing is a golden quality I feel falls short in most genres through out history. Its never missing, its just not often clear. Stuff like Sirona or I Am Alive manages to wrap up pain and longing and give it back. It has a relate-able heart.

I like the references to the older God of War games. Not just the "scraping of chains", but also "the echoes they taunt and deceive me," referencing how the Olympians would dangle forgiveness in front of Kratos when he was their slave. Like how Athena promised her personal forgiveness, but left out that the nightmares Kratos was suffering were his own conscious. Good song.

Although this song is from a video game, I love this song for personal reasons. I used to be really angry, anxious and stressed from trauma caused by family, acquaintances at school and work. This song makes me cry and I am so proud of myself because I've successfully managed to put the negative version of me to permanent rest. It was really hard but I've worked through all my trauma to become the amazing person I am today. For this, I'm gonna pat myself on the back and give myself a hug. The misconception that video games are not helpful needs to end.

To all of us consumed by fury and anger on our path in life, don't forget it can be a tool to drive our motivation, to inspire when we feel hollow. It need not be a curse. I've tried to hide behind a veil of pacifism to avoid it, but the truth is, it is a part of me, and we can control it, aim it. But like a roaring blaze, it can engulf our beings an consume us. Tempered by the mind, the the flame is our strength.

No deep mental scars here, but I'm caught in an endless vortex of anger and hatred for over ten years. It kept me fron loosing my determination by directing what I had, but it always is a strangling sensation. This song makes those tendrills of aggression feels less like strangling ropes binding my judgement. Within this pulse(I just don't know any word that feels more fitting) the sdame sensation that feels like a strangling rope on my mind once again turns into one of tendrills reaching out into the vast surroundings. I'm sorry if this sounds a bit to out there. I just don't know how to say it any other way. It's possible you know what I talk about, if not: Try imagining the feeling of having lost the ebility to fly with your own wings because you need them as a barrier to protect yourself. Imaging that day by day that barrier gets smaller until itself startrs to constrict your body. That you start to cut of you breath with you own wings. And then a song breaks that tension and you can feels the wind beneath your wings again. To me hearing this song is like feeling it's rhythm brushing through feathers growing out of far reaching tendrills carrying me along my path again.

This song reinforces the fact that there are some demons that you can never end or defeat, you just have to battle them constantly. It is a never ending struggle. Ceaselessly pushing the hardships away. A never ending tussle but once where I longed to see the end to finally gain that illusory peace, I now have made peace knowing that this is the way it is and it always will be. The only safe space you can find is the one you make. Keep moving forth! One challenge, one hurdle, one hardship at a time! Moving on!
