My grandfather was a historian from Ireland. He taught me to be proud of my heritage and to respect the culture of others as he believed that being a historian was a noble cause. He taught me more history than any school did. I remember when he told me the story of Cú Chúlainn, I loved it so much that he bought me an Irish wolfhound pup and I named it Cú Chúlainn as a memoriam of him. I plan to one day follow his footsteps and become a historian too, to carry his believes and follow his motto: We take the ash and dust of the dead and turn it to cement so we may make a concrete place for them in the books. May we bring the dead back to life. Miss you all the time old timer. Thank you MoS for this beautiful song and memories it brings me.

Lugh's spear had to be kept knocked the fuck out on poppy-seeds so it wouldn't just wander off to murder people, and he didn't wield it so much as take it for extremely violent walks through entire armies. Cú Chulainn's spear Gae Bolg had to be cut out of his enemies to retrieve it, and he had a sidekick in the Red Branch Knights whose job was basically to do that exact thing. When he was a kid, Cú Chulainn's party trick was hitting his sliotar (the ball for hurling) into the air, then leaping after it to hit it again before it could hit the ground, then throwing his javelin and his spear, chasing after them, and catching all three before they could land. Never mind the Greeks, the only mythology I can think of that hits like the Irish is the stories of Hindu gods going to war. Every one of them has some incredible weapon of mass destruction (or several) that can do things like "cut mountains in half," "vaporize entire armies with arrows made of light," or "decapitate a thousand soldiers with one throw."

Demi-born hero who was a great fighter, killed the most ferocious guard dog ever, took up it's post as an apology, warped into a great, unstoppable beast when furious only calmed by taking the fire out of him, trained under the greatest of warriors, gained both a battle brother and the Gea Bolg (can't remember if I'm spelling that right), warped in a war after finding a company of youth soldiers slaughtered, had to kill his battle brother with Gea Bolg, AND IT KEEPS GOING!!! If Cu Chulainn isn't the most amazing legendary warrior, he probably has the longest legend of them all.

Speaking as an Irish Archaeologist, on the first listen this is exceptionally well made and pretty accurate! A modern ballad worthy of the legend, and I'm pretty impressed with the research that must have gone into this, for the less casually known bits of the legend, such as the killing of Emer's Family! I'll be listening a few more times and trying to spot all the references for sure. I'll edit this comment with any notes I have on repeated listens! But his irish roots, the riastrad, the tale of strength woe and redemption. It just drew me in. Fascinating in every aspect, almost 12 yeara later I get married with a woman who wants a celtic wedding. And we got married on Lughs Day. Without realizing it, until the woman mentions "its lughs day" during our ceremony. My wife and I gave each other a surprised look when she mentioned it. Oh and if anyone's curious the book series' name is The Tapestry by Henry H. Neff. I'd definetely suggest it if you like fantasy, lore, gods, a lil' bit of angst here 'n there, war, and long ass book series cause there's five books. (Don't let the first book fool you the series is not a fantasy school book thing, it really kick off about halfway through the second book(a least in my opinion) and it then got really badass and cool, and then by the third book came the topics of battle and wars and all that fun stuff. In fact it was in the third book(personally my favorite of the five, though 4 and 5 were also awesome) where the main character legit pulled a Harry Potter and said "Aight imma head out" to the school n' straight up left, and then had his own adventure elsewhere on his own path to follow his own goal.)

In the Fate series, every servant's class is defined by their legend, servants can be multiple classes, like Hercules, he can be a berserker or an archer, because in his myth he shows traits of both. Why am I telling you this? Well, there is a Caster Cu, casters have lots of extremely smart and rational people among them. So your dream is not too unbelievable.

Actually Cu Chulainn was also famously intelligent. Part of how he wooed Emer was stumping her in a riddle contest (with riddles even modern scholars can barely figure out mind you). And Emer was said to be the smartest woman in Ireland.

My family name McCullagh (Mac Con Uladh in its original Irish form, which translatates as Son of the Hound of Ulster) is descended from Cu Chulainn, as are a number of family surnames from Tyrone and surrounding counties in Ireland.. He was most certainly NOT an anti-hero - While is his death as portrayed in Mythology was tragic, it was largely the a consequence of a conniving and jealous queen.

The saddest part about the Connla story is that he was still a young man, around 16 or so, and was said to have been skilled enough with the spear that Cu had to go all out and killed him. If Connla didn't die, or if he would have fought him with a few more years of training, he could have become the strongest warrior in Celtic Myth.
