What a wonderful experience thank you Misha! Just to clarify the transmission issue is entirely my fault. I've done countless laps in other racetracks without stopping and overheating but this time I sent the car to a mechanic I shouldn't have and they did an awful job replacing my transmission oil, didn't drain the old oil properly and overfilled with new oil. Weirdly the transmission never did overheat in automatic performance shift mode. I will fix this issue and do some more upgrades to the car and hopefully I'll take it to the ring again with Misha.

The 1LE has a different Oil pan with a smaller stand pipe, so it does not hold as much fluid as the ZL1 transmission. Thats to reduce heat. I have a ZL1 with OEM Aero running at 840 hp. My engine oil gets kinda hot by that power. When I track on hockenheimring my max. trans temp is max. 95°C. (maybe because of less shifts or staying in auto). Do you know what temps for oil and trans you have on track? Chevy also recommends using 15W-50 engine oil on the zl1 and on the 1LE its even required by the G-Forces you have with its aero and tires.

@danieldickerson48384 ай бұрын
Yeah, I could tell immediately. The key way to spot a true ZL1 1LE is by looking at the strut towers underneath the hood, and the shocks. If both are blue, you’ve got a genuine ZLE. Don’t get it twisted, the ZL1 is still a beast on the track, and is much more friendly on the road as well. However, the ZL1 1LE may as well be a different car in the way it goes about road course duty. The latter was built for the *sole* purpose of track work, hence the DSSV dampers, the solid bushings, the lightweight wheels, thinner rear glass, Pratt n Miller designed aero, easily adjustable suspension/camber, and pizza-sized rotors.

ZL's with A10 get hot at the track. Forum's say that the biggest culprit is actual the engine oil getting to 300F. The engine, trans, differential share the engine coolant, so, if the engine gets super hot, it's heating your coolant, which is reducing its capacity to chill the ATF, in turn. Add an auxiliary engine oil cooler. Similarly, don't turn on the heat in the cabin, because, you'll just be adding more heat to the coolant thru the heater core, instead turn on the A/C to try to chill the coolant passing thru the cabin. GM says to change the ATF every 15 track hours, and changed the check requirements, for the 2020+ models, check the ATF at 172 F instead of previously 212 F. Some argue that over fill ATF is causing issues, however, don't bleed the ATF when it's hot or it'll risk being too low on ATF.

I'm sure u r getting a ton of hate, that wasnt my intention, and I could be wrong on the front dive planes, but on the video the angle looks very different from mine, they look much steeper, u can look at my profile picture for comparison, also I never said anything about the brakes or anything else that u said, but I stand by the other things, I also never said that I disliked the regular (for lack of a better way of saying it) ZL1, as a daily driver it's a better option, but this is a track video and the times that the 2 variants of the ZL1 posted at the ring are substantial. 13.6 seconds! it also has a different rear suspension, solid aluminum bushings, The suspension is also track adjustable, you can gain neg. camber 3 deg I think, the glass is actually thinner as well, and it actually does cool better (Chevrolet's info, not mine) if u changed to the 1LE front facia u know the differences, the rear seat is fixed, 19" forged aluminum wheels which are lighter, all of the extra effort translated to it being 60 lbs lighter. again I don't dislike your car at all, I think it looks fantastic and I'm thrilled to finally see one on the ring, I'd love to be able to drive mine there, thats a dream, but me pointing out those differences are not me taking a shot at your car, not at all.

@@historyisaguide brother I know what the 1LE is and how different it is to a normal ZL1, I’m not arguing anything here. I even plan on buying one and turn it into a hardcore track vehicle. Im just correcting people linking my trans issues to the fact that this is not a 1LE. The ZL1 ring record was done in an automatic. Ive tracked my car for the past 4 years and never had my trans overheat until I changed the oil last month. I dont agree with the video title calling it a 1LE but that wasnt my call. And you’re still wrong about the dive planes angle unless Chevy has changed the angle based on model year which I’m not aware of. If I had a 1LE the trans would still overheated if you fuck up and overfill the trans. My carbon parts are from Anderson Composites and you can check yourself that theyre a direct replacement for the plastic oem parts, they cant be a different angle or they would just not fit. Maybe because I deleted the side reflectors it seems different to you.
@historyisaguide4 ай бұрын
Ok, I agree with u about the dive planes, as I said in my last comment. Anderson composites makes some outstanding stuff, way better than the factory stuff. I also have the 10 speed auto 10L90 I preferred it to the manual. there is a great video where a couple of guys go thru the service procedure, well worth the watch, I was really surprised with how specific and honestly ridiculous it is, there is a very specific temperature range that u have to do it at, and with special equipment, there isn't even a dipstick that I know of. I'm sure u r fully aware of this by now, but just in case I thought I'd mention it. again I meant no disrespect, you can't convey tone in text, I was thrilled to see a ZL1 on his channel, it feels like the ZL1 is a forgotten car at times, but great video.

Use a heat wrap on the exhaust as it passes near the transmission and differential. Any sort of heat wrap you can use really, and the entire length of the exhaust if you can. Also, perhaps fit a heat shield between the exhaust and transmission. Ditto for the exhaust and differential.
@N4CR4 ай бұрын
wraps are dumb as they can cause condensation, rusting etc. heat shields are used by OEMs for this reason. You never see OEM wraps. Ceramic coating also helps inside.
@green95gt4 ай бұрын
@@N4CR Well I don't necessarily disagree with you on the tape wraps, but if it was my only option towards saving a 10-speed automatic transmission worth thousands of dollars I would take it. There are other style wraps that are metal based and adhere to the exhaust. Not sure where they placed the heat shields from the factory on this car but I'll bet there is none shielding the transmission from the exhaust. The definition of ceramic coating on exhausts has broadened over the years. To me, only the very thick ones are worth it. Those are not painted on but deposited on via a different process and is expensive. But at that point, road debris, rock, pebbles, etc could damage it.

@cw_zl14 ай бұрын
@@mfjones2217 Yea, fluid level must be correct. Although I am pretty sure that was not the main cause of overheating. Properly filling the trans is not hard, I did it myself. You just need a car lift, or maybe rent one. Idling 60+ min. to get the target trans temp is the most annoying part... Pre-facelift models need like 90-95°C, so the thermostat opens up. If you're manual shifting it drags clutches to speed up shift times that creates heat. Leave it in auto and track.

Manual mode on dyno with my a10 1le was 30hp less that's a bunch of drag, performance shift mode for 1hr+ on track it didn't miss a beat. But 1le a10 have a deep sump pan. Part of the reason these transmissions get too hot is because of the constant shifting. When you go around a corner, downshifting to whatever gear puts you near redline is not how this car should be driven. This car has more than enough torque to throttle out of a corner around 4000 RPM and be just as fast without destroying the transmission. These GM torque converter automatics turn into slushboxes when you shift them too frequently. These cars like being in one gear for a few more seconds in order to lock up the torque converter. That helps keep temperatures from rising way too quickly. Source: I own a 2018 Camaro SS with the 8 speed auto and I can run into the same issue if I push it too hard on track and constantly downshift to redline. These transmissions like to stay in a gear and ride it from moderate RPMs to redline. Part of the reason the 8 speed doesn’t overheat so often is because the gears are longer so the transmission isn’t shifting as much as the 10 speed will.

@@Clutch_Kick187 That is correct, for daily driving and track that is the standard all season oil as the 0W provides good winter viscosity and 40 weight for track. However, page 15 of Chevrolets high performance owners manual supplement, it also mentions SS 1LE, ZL1 5W-40 and 0W-40 or 15W-50 for track use and 15W-50 to be changed back to owner manual specified oil 0W-40 after track use. ZL1 1LE only: 15W-50 on track and change after 4hours of accumulated track time. Regarding the 5W-50 oil i mentioned, that is a new oil which was dexos r certified for the new C8 Z06 LT6 after the development of the Camaro and is overall a great oil for track use I would consider over 15W-50.

@DanteGonxhja 3 months ago (edited) What a wonderful experience thank you Misha!
