Thanks to your tutorial, I was able to give my mom the Farrah. She wore this back in the 70's at the height of it's popularity :) And she has enjoyed reliving her young days. It's was so funny that we ran into her old hair stylist at the mall last fall, after I had given her the cut and curled it as you directed.. and he laughed and looked at her hair and he said, "You're still wearing the same cut I was giving you!" and wanted to know who had done it, and mom told I had cut it. He couldn't believe I knew how to do this, because many stylists have no idea how to do the Farrah. I have never cut hair in my life, but I followed you step by step. I tried to take mom to get the Farrah a couple years back and they gave her the Aniston! She hated it. Thank you ... for helping me give this cut to her because she's not doing so well physically and this perked her up. You are a blessing!

I've also followed these instructions and did a very lonnnnng cut on myself and I have beautiful layers, and people ask me how I did it. It's an alternate less shorter cut, but same method.

So glad I ran across this video. Love the Farrah cut. This is absolutely amazing. I had this cut in the 70's and am going to do this this evening when I wash my hair. Will let you know how it turns out. Thanks for taking your precious time to share with all of us who have been wishing to have this hairstyle again.

Beautiful! Love the look of this cut and yes, it is easy to do and fun to do. Personally and as a stylist, I'm not crazy about some of the current cuts of today with straight, beaky hair. To me, it shows laziness, like no one wants to take the time for a great style. Give me the good old days of the classic styles from the 50's 60's 70's.

Thanks for the compliment and... your right- it does seem as if more stylist are choosing to go with the less work... almost as if they just don't want to enjoy the ability to make the hair look good. hahahaha- luckily- the men seem to have grown out of the "shave it all off" phase and some are starting to sport an actual style again.

I'm so happy to have found this for years I have been searching for this cut and each time no matter where I went the hairdressers always ruined the look by not cutting true to the style even the very expensive salons ! I have put off for years after having many bad experiences and have just had a basic cut but now that I have found this I have attempted it myself and I couldn't be happier it looks amazing ! once you get accustomed to getting the technique right it really is easy thanks to your easy steps - thank you so much for posting this video your the best and greetings from Australia xo 😊 if ever I visit California I shall look you up !

I affirm what I said a few years earlier: YOU are the only stylist with the experience to cut the "Classic" Farrah Fawcett hairstyle. Others are simply botching individuals hair - calling it "modern" - making a layered disasters that look nothing like Farrah's. I had Farrah hair during my 20's and 30's and like Farrah, I was blessed with a natural wave and very thick hair. Only two problems? Horrid hot rollers - I'd had a "toasted" head many times getting ready for work/date and I drove a far distance to the one salon to get the precise "Farrah" haircut. Please keep posting your talent so others can look and learn!

This is one of the best Farrah Fawcett haircuts I’ve ever seen I’ve been doing here for 30 years I don’t need more but I still cut my own which I’m fixing to do this haircut tomorrow everyone today if you go in and ask them for this haircut they cut you in tons of layers because they think that Farrah Fawcett had a lot of layers but a lot of people don’t know she had natural curly hair and she had long layers and shorter on top exactly like this haircut it’s the way it was blowdried and rolled that’s what gives the illusion one of the best Farrah Fawcett haircut I’ve seen in a long time

I WISH you were in the Greater Charleston, SC area. I trust VERY FEW to my hair, long or short. My mom, who used to be a "beautician" would give me this cut and upkeep when it came into fashion. Now her eye sight is almost gone, so I haven't had a perfect "Farrah Fawcett haircut" in a few decades. I just have very long layers, which is fine, but I'd LOVE to have the volume and look of the classic Farrah Fawcett haircut and style again. Great video. Thank you. LOVE IT

Im 59 and i wish i live in CA because I would come to you for sure! my hair is almost waist length and Ive tried to layer around my face but its not what i used to have. been afraid of cutting the short guideline. i used to cut the top in a V and it would sort of peak at the part. my sister never quit wearing this style. thank u for immortalizing the instructions! every student in my school male or female wore feathers. the first to wear it were two brothers from europe. the people in school said did u see their hair? its all different lengths. lol. i dont understand why stylists today cut little hacks into the line they just cut! it just looks awful. do you remember the roffler? cutting against curved fingers? that looked like fishscales. gorgeous. Thanks again, Ruby!

Hi, I'm waiting for a scholarship to cosmetology school and my mom has waited for 30 years to have this haircut. I have Cerebral Palsy and need to rest in my chair for a bit because my legs get tired. I established my guideline and am doing each layer in the center section 1/8 of an inch apart. My beautiful mom's hair is very thick and heavy and makes her sweat. Is it possible to thin it out without ruining the style?
@akamissrubytuesday
@akamissrubytuesday 9 жыл бұрын
Diana Stella Hi, Congrats on choosing to becoming a hairstylist! :-D - in answer to your question- yes- you can - it requires you to re-do the cut... and creating smaller sections- but- you state you are already taking 1/8 of inch sections- so- if your mom TRULY is to thick & heavy even after doing the 1/8 of an inch sections- grab some thinning shears- begin at the top of the head- pick up 1 inch sections (in the same manner that you did the actual cut - over direct) the thinning shears of teeth that remove bulk- use sparingly - cut- then comb- does it feel like the weight is being removed??? - if so- then keep picking up 1 inch sections working down to the nape of the head- & keep over directing while applying a few snips with the shears- DO NOT remove so much hair that the cut is no longer the same cut- IF you remove to much... then go ahead and grab a straight razor and make it a wispy shag.

It's because they think it's "dated", when really, it's?a classic, and if you razor refine it and blow it out with a round brush you get a super sexy haircut; esoecially on wavy hair. . Very few people want short layers on a long perimeter, anymore, but I dig it.

I read that Dorothy Hamill didn't like her signature haircut. She needed something that worked well on the ice, but said she hated it. Then, when girls began to copy her, she couldn't understand how they could like it. As an aside, my dad shared a story. It was during the Dorothy Hamill wedge rage. He had a girl working in his department. Apparently, her hair was extremely long (past her butt), brunette and lush. One morning, she arrived at work with a wedge. My dad was incredulous... Farrah's hair was much longer then your model, and mine was past my shoulders at the time I had this style. However the stylist did not cut the guide line straight across, he cut it at a point at each end of the guideline > like this.

@akamissrubytuesday
@akamissrubytuesday 3 жыл бұрын
yes- this is the same as the gypsy shag- it can be short, medium or long- a pixie haircut is a supershort shag that grows into the medium/long aka farrah fawcett shag- which is only called that because she is the one sporting it in pics that people tend to use as reference- it is also the same shag that tina turner/ rod stewart/joan jett all sported - just different variations & lengths- it is a bi-sexual haircut- meaning worn by both men and women- & it is styled differently depending on a persons individual taste.

Wish I had someone in the NH area to do this look on me. Was told my hair was too long. I asked why not cut it shorter then and she gave excuses for things that made up how the look was supposed to be anyways. So just gave me curtain bangs. Nice but not what I wanted. She was kind though. I know you can't have it super long and do this look but ugh I want it so bad. And i know my hair is straighter but I dont care having to curl it all the time. She said it was too drastic a cut. I explained ive had butt length hair I cut to my ears years before. I just think she didn't know how to do it. Tried to tell her about your video beforehand but she didn't seem to care. Gonna go to someone else for another appointment. How should I go about telling her I want her to follow this technique? I dont wanna be a pain i just am someone that usually settles because I hate to be annoying and I haven't gone to a hairdresser in years as a result. The stylists are always amazed when I have gone. Been coloring and cutting it since the 6th grade. just can't do this look myself.

I temember when i was a teenager i wanted this haircut. It was always done so wrong. It always seemed like all my thickness was high and then thin bottom and always around the top of my shouldets or shorter, my sides were always to short. I see why now. They always did the layering bringing the hair out from my head instead of over directing that back hair forward and over directing the sides. I just cant believe no one knew how to do this when it was so in .

Thank you so much for sharing, I wish I didn't live on the east coast I would come to see you. Can you tell me what the guide length should be? My bangs are just a little shorter than the models. I absolutely love it, thanks so much for sharing, you are amazing!!
@akamissrubytuesday
@akamissrubytuesday 9 жыл бұрын
Kimberly Hennessy - Hi.... the "guide" length... would be at your choice... EG:- If you want the bangs to fall Below the eye level... at the eye level... above the eye level... or way above... it is determined by your preference for WHERE you want the bang/top to fall... the hairstylist should know how to measure it... also the stylist will take into consideration your natural wave... as to how much it will shrink as it dries... EG: if the customer wants the hair to fall at the eye line... and it currently falls below the eye line... but he/she has wavy hair or super curly hair... then the stylist needs to actually compensate the potential shrinkage... instead of cutting an inch... the stylist would only cut 1/2 an inch so when it dries... it still lands at the eye level.- hope that helps! :-D

Ruby Tuesday Thank you so much for the fast response. I did it and it came out wonderful. Seems the younger hairdressers I have met only know one way to cut. You are so talented and I can't thank you enough for sharing your techniques!

@@akamissrubytuesday I have cut the bangs dry, and blown out as they wkild style them, first to establish the guide..If they esnt a strong curtain fringe , I determine length and then over direct everything to the shortest center point. You don't have to have a wide, square bang to make Tge guide. It just has to be the desired length at very center, sunce everything on the top (mohawk section) is going to be over- directed to center.

Ms. Ruby In my state of Raleigh North Carolina nonone I mean absolutely Not even one salon or a person knows how to give this perticular haircut I have payed from $125/cut to $45/cut everytime I came home cried I am beginning to understand this State and the city I live in is wacky. I am hoping some day I come to California and find you and a get a real wholesome haircut. You are very knowlegeable I wish you could come here and teach seasoned stylist this cut. the last time I got a haircut was 2 weeks ago she litterally buchered my hair it will take a while before it grows out it doesn't have any style except the top and sides are an inch short and the bottom is long to my shoulder I am so devestated she was highly recommanded to me by my Zomba teacher, she works for one of the fancy salon here in Raleigh. The salon name is Samuel Cole and the stylist name is Lauren she needs to go back to school to learn cutting

Hi- & yes- as soon as I'm allowed to work more than 1 day a week & I can find a client who is willing to be filmed while wearing a facemask etc... this covid pandemic has really discouraged customers from coming into the salon since it has been shutdown 3 times now & when it opens they have to sit in their hot cars while waiting to come inside for their appointment... the salon is small so we are required to be 6ft apart & we are required to book clients who must also be 6ft apart...it is a hassle- but as soon as I'm able to film again I will.-

I've been cutting my hair like this how you're showing it and it looks great. And the thing about it only took me like 10 minutes 15 minutes the longest. I couldn't believe that it didn't take that long for me to do it myself. Thank you for inspiring me because nobody can do this anymore they don't even know what I'm talking about when I say Farrah fawcett. Love you girl❤

Hi... I use the "Remington Travel Rollers" set... you can get them at Wal-Mart or Target for $12-16 depending on your location... they are GREAT- they fit in your suitcase easily & they are perfect for any style you want... they come with 10 rollers- 5 big- 5 small- they also come with metal clips -but- I prefer to use the big plastic clips (10 to a package at the dollar store or at any store!) they hold the rollers perfectly. - hope that helps ya...
