I do not understand why so many people are up in arms about Mexico winning. Andrea was powerful, luminous, educated, immaculate. She wasn’t some random contestant that was out of left field and on no ones list. She was supremely prepared. I get it everyone wants their own county to win but this wasn’t a robbery. I would be super happy if Brazil won or Peru. All very deserving. Clearly Andrea had a little something else. It’s sad to see the rejection Mexican face period. Accept Mexico’s win and celebrate it. 🇲🇽💃🏻

Mexico 🇲🇽 is or was the complete package. When she announced that she was going to signed up for Mexicana Universal, we knew that she was the only one capable of bringing the crown 👑 back to Mexico. After the participation of Sofia Aragon in 2019 and placing 2nd runner up, the bar was set high and she didn't dissapointed us, we knew we had the next Miss Universe. I truthly believe that things happen for a reason, good or bad. In 2017 Andrea was send to Miss World, she did an amazing job always placing at the different categories,so when the final night came we were happy but at the same time it was bittersweet bec we had never won a Miss World Pageant, but had two 1st runner's up. In Mexico, we had all this crazy theories. One of them was that Julia Morgan didn't like Mexicans, that she hated us, that she liked to make us suffered lmao. So when it was announced that Andrea was 1st runner up, it killed us , we couldn't believed it, ithappened again for the 3rd time. Andrea needed time and space to heal and find herself. The Miss World Mexico 2018 came and she crowned Vanessa Ponce de Leon as her successor. Later that same year Vanessa participated at the Miss World , finally bringing that so anticipated crown to Mexico...we couldn't believed it...and Andrea was so honest about how she felt for Vanessa... And look at her now Miss Universe 2020.....

I would say that Peru, Brazil and Dominican Republic got the typical Miss Universe questions which are recycled pageant questions and more connected to them. That’s why they were able to give good answers. Mexico and India got Atypical questions, ie Covid questions. They both answered in English and not in their own native language. Thus it is harder for them to come up with words related to the subject. So they were at a disadvantaged position.Therefore both were not able to give outstanding answers. However, Mexico was able to redeem herself when she gave her final presentation in Spanish. Her win was based on her overall performance and the judges did not hold it against her on her first answer. I think she deserved to win.

Thank you for this Dani. While I think your judgements and callouts are fair and make a whole lot of sense, I couldn't help but respectfully disagree with you when it came to Miss Peru's communication style. I agree that poise is important. However, I think it was a subjective callout to say that her body language was off given that she had a lot of passion in her answer and utilized her hands a lot. What I think is problematic and I believe reinforces the "female (beauty) standard" is that she is unable to freely express herself based on her hand gestures--It may be deemed as harsh. Adversely, if a man were to use his hands in that manner he would come off as powerful. I admire Peru's nonverbal expressions as it should challenge what women should "act" like. And then speaking more on that "standard" is it based off of expectations of a woman in the United States? Where do we draw the line with cultural values as well? I hope you can be a part of deconstructing that narrative for women.

Peru was good but was not close to perfect. What affected her, was that she lost poise and elegance while answering. She talked more like a politician in election times. I think that she exaggerated her gestures and tone of voice. What affected her the most is that she did not respond the question made. She confused the tenses. Question: What would you say to the woman, watching tonight, that is CURRENTLY suffering sexual or domestic violence? She answered that she admires their strenght and that they are heroes. Then she said she is the heroe of her own story. But actually she did not respond the question. In her answer, she was refering to a woman that already overcame that hard situation. The question was about a woman that is suffering in the PRESENT. So it is very weird to tell a suffering woman that she is a heroe when she is not a hero yet. The best answer for me would be to tell that woman that she is not alone and not to lose hope. Then help her with practical actions: inform that there are public institutions and ONGs willing to help her, take her there and get her legal and psychological help, etc Also, when she was asked about climate change, she confused that with pollution. Climate change and pollution is not the same thing. The firts one is a consequence and the second one is a cause. She was very basic and cliche with her answer about recycling, etc. I admit this can help to prevent pollution but at a small scale. Then she said the phrase " little by little". This is not correct, on the contrary, changes need to be done ASAP. Things need to be done NOW not little by little. If we do it little by little, the earth and the humand kind will be extinct sooner. At this point, climate change prevention needs greater things to be done like involving goverments and the industrial companies to make a greater impact. Because we (the people) can recycle and clean our streets, beaches and forests but it will not make a significant impact if big companies and industrial countries keep polluting and poisoning the planet at a larger scale just for wealth. These are the reasons why, in my opinion, Peru did not win. She got easy questions and gave basic confusing answers.

Hi Dani, I've been a fan. A few questions about this vlog: About tv viewers not seeing what the people at the venue are seeing, specifically the judges, would you also agree that the judges and yourself might have not seen what the viewers have seen on screen, especially how Miss Mexico obviously was not able to come up with an answer as "composed" and smooth as you said, and how her facial expression and pauses while delivering her first answer made it too obvious? Can you check it on screen and let us know whether you were able to see what we all saw? Is that showing a great deal of "grace under pressure"? In comparison to the performance of Janick Maceta of Peru, are you saying that the she might have been perceived as a less effective speaker than Andrea because of her "passionate gestures", or shall we say too passionate (or uncomposed) gestures? Would you personally prefer a speaker/advocate that appears to you as "composed" but challenged in articulating her responses without a "specific stand" on a situation than a "passionate speaker" with straight up substance yet some gestures that you did not appreciate. Shouldn't an advocate/speaker really be passionate? Just thinking. Have you also gauged the quality of Andrea Meza's second answer considering that it was spoken in Spanish? Just asking. 😊 Also, if you are saying that we did not see what you guys saw there, why did the crowd go wild when Peru was called as the second runner up. Why did Demi Leigh, Cheslie and Paulina all rooted for Miss Peru, and why did one judge (Cho) comment to Janick's post saying how Janick stood out. I hope you can answer all these. Thank you and more power. 😊😊😊

Thank you for helping me make sense of the placements. It makes more sense to me now. I think the thing is that after the standard of eloquence and articulation set by Catriona and Zozi, people felt Andrea's answer didn't measure up, but I do believe her overall presentation was solid from day one. She did a good job on her first question considering how difficult it was and that she chose to answer in English instead of Spanish, which would naturally affect her ability to articulate her response effectively. Anyways, wishing Mexico a fabulous and fruitful reign.

The MissSouthAfrica Org is so great for how they handling the results. Major respect because after what they did to our girl Natasha in the Miss Telemundo Universe finals, was so dirty and basic regional pageantry tactics, that it just became sad to watch like the Titanic sinking. However, I do feel that it actually cemented the fact that certain country organisations like Miss South Africa is basically as good as them and it makes them afraid. Thats the only logical reasoning for the exclusion and the world knows that Natasha had all the requirements and more to do the job well. But they probably found it offensive that our 2nd princess is mopping literally mopping the floor of other national pageant winners. There is a behind the scenes clip of the finals and it shows the executive producer/choreographer of MissU and his assistance in whiteblazers speaking to Miss Mexico during an ad break on stage after the top 5 was announced. The assistance runs off stage and comes back and tells her something while he then goes and makes small talk with the rest of the girl. Now Im not saying it is looks sus but it looks sus. But does that really matter if nothing meaningful is coming out of your mouth? It’s sad because her answers seem like a joke when compared to Zozi and Catriona.

People believe Peru should've won because she's very fluent in english..However, listening and analyzing her question and answer, I personally believe she didn't answer what it was asked! They ask her what she would say to women who are CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING sexual or domestic abuse..she called them heroes which yes women who decide to leave a situation like that are heroes and survivors! But women who are CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING a situation like that, are VICTIMS!..VICTIMS who need our support, who need to speak up and seek help before its to late! I think that Peru should've give advice to women to break their silence and to report any type of abuse and seek help! Also i would like to point out that the translator butchered Mexico's and Dominican Republican's answer..."We live in a society, that each time is more advanced. And just like we have advanced as a society, also we have advanced with stereotypes. Nowadays, beauty doesn’t only lie on the way we look. For me, beauty lies in our spirit, in our soul, and in the values in which we conduct ourselves. Don't let anyone you that you're not valuable.!" That's what Mexico said! Also Mexico's first answer was basic but good. She said she would enforce a lockdown since the beginning to prevent things from getting big..Simple but passable! There's also a video going around of one of the judges (Brooke Lee) saying days before the competition that the MUO asked them to look for an OVERALL contestant, that she didn't have to nail her final question, they're were looking for a girl whos is strong in every category and if she has a bad moment, if she trips on gown dont discount her, if they like her and see that she's a strong candidate and she would be good as miss universe to wave that into consideration..To not look for someone whos is looking to win but someone who's been living a life and that life shines on stage and that the pageant would help her elevate thos messages!

Idk why some people say a Miss can’t have a body lenguage as improved as Peru had. They are empowered women, they can move their arms, their faces and their legs, they are not robots. In that case, Mexico body language showed insecure and India or BRAZIL deserved that crown for the content of their answers.

I disagree with you regarding Peru's body language. That is what you called conviction and there is nothing wrong about that. You have to consider as well the question being asked to her, it is about Earth and something Mexico lacks. You are talking about Mexico's consistency but it really shows that her first answer was memorized when she answer her 2nd q&a not in English.
@GiGia11053 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Conviction it is! She is there to convince everyone, she talks and she wants everyone to listen to her words. That is what Mexico failed to show. She just there to answer the question. And if She was really consistent, why use interpreter on the final statement? Which means, she knows her answer on the 1st one is not a winning one.

People don't know how much sensitive Indian government is regarding this kind of topic. India got both political and controversial topics. Adline could have been arrested if the government felt something wrong. That's why she kept both answer safe . Nonetheless we are proud of you Adline. Whatever she did she did all her heart . India made it to the top 5 after 20 years. I hope we get more top 5 placement in upcoming years

Dani I would love for you to do a video on changes that may need to happen with MUO: 1. Prelim & Final Night Judging Panels are different 2. Judging Panel being more diverse in particular where are the men judges? 3. Top 15: Have all the contestants compete in both swimsuit & evening gown and then make a cut 4. Telecast: Have a 2 hour telecast for the show but use a third hour that airs before the pageant or maybe a 90 minute block that still airs before Finals called “The Road to Universe” let’s get to know these women and their stories 5. Questions: Someone if they are not doing it now, needs to be formatted and asked differently and I also feel certain topics should not even be asked. Miss Universe is not running for political office, you have leaders out here who still have zero clue how to effectively handle the Pandemic, so should we expect these women in 30 seconds to come up with an intelligent answer
@astoldbychrisv94643 жыл бұрын
You my friend, need to be the organizer of Miss Universe. I don't know your age, but Miss Universe use to do all of those things back in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and early 00s. This is a formula that worked for many decades and didn't need to tweaking. I, too, feel like the questions have no place in Miss Uinverse and should be fun and spontaneous. Also, I feel the preliminary and finals should also have different judges.
