My local police force did nothing for 15 years about a girl who was murdered and dumped/abandoned nude across state lines. Her family got tired of begging the police to look into it and hired a retired investigator turned private investigator and he solved the case in 8 weeks. Her killer is in jail now and our DA/police took credit for it when all they did was argue with the state police in Texas about why they didn’t think they should be the ones investigating anything since she was dumped there. It ended up shining a huge light on the corruption top to bottom in Alexandria, LA. There’s lots of podcasts and vids explaining by Woody Overton the PI if anyone reading this is interested. It’s only gone semi-viral and her poor family has worked tirelessly to get Courtney’s case solved. RIP Courtney Coco you deserved so much better

Police are bound by state laws NOT to investigate across state lines. That is one reason if there is a police chase, the police in the next state take over the chase, when state lines are crossed. This rule is also the reason many murderers will cross state lines to hide a body. Also, the differing state where the body is hidden, doesn't know about a crime being committed, and it will take longer to discover. This is one reason that before DNA, serial killers would regularly move a body into another state, as well as hide it in an isolated area. A private investigator is not deterred by the same limitations police officers are bound by.

I had a family member that acted this way without drugs. When the person went missing, a police officer was very dismissive because it "sounded like drugs". Since the person was over 18, they are free to wander without a trace. They were found 8 months later in a psychiatric hospital, with no identification Their childhood behaviors are not normal. Psychiatric conditions are a lifetime problem, with or without drugs. These people are also given drugs by professionals. So, if they act strange without drugs, they are told that they are acting that way because they are not taking drugs.

@@8bert9 My family had devastating alcoholism on both sides. I joined AlAnon. Maybe I'm odd, but I found it more pleasant to be around the alcoholic when they were drinking than when they abstained. Joking, singing, etc. It sounds pretentious, but the current phrase is "neurodivergent". People can be born with very sensitive nervous systems. I don't like to say someone is "Alcoholic". @@8bert9 Sadly, understanding that addiction is an illness is only half the battle. Actually, it’s not even half. It’s like 10% of the battle. The problem is what to do. People with diabetes don’t typically lie, manipulate, and steal to get their medication. Addiction leads to the sufferer doing these things, and family members struggle, understandably, with how to support a person who can’t or won’t help themselves. Understanding that their addiction isn’t their fault and is no longer a choice doesn’t solve the problem of what to do or how to help. It also doesn’t address the even more important issue of how loved ones can protect and help themselves from all the ways in which addicts hurt them (unintentionally…but that doesn’t make it less real).

"I wonder how hard the loss prevention people were looked at by police?" Ummmmm...I hope you are kidding. That's ridiculous!...the loss prevention people should have been given a medal (or a raise at least). At least they stopped people from stealing merchandise, which stealing increases the price of everything for us law abiding citizens. Usually they just let them walk out with cart loads of stuff...at least they tried to stop them and were able to prosecute them, somewhat. If the loss prevention people were in on the burglary, they wouldn't have bothered to stop them to the extent that they did. I also am pretty sure they know what direction that she went when out of the store...obviously the loss prevention people would have seen (no need to watch the camera footage) and that doesn't mean much...she could be anywhere. Sadly, I agree with Dr. Grande that she must have met with some "bad actors" and she is passed away now. My condolences and sympathy to her family and friends.

Good morning, Dr. Grande! So Ashley was a pathological liar, drug user and had a history of criminal activity. As you pointed out, so was Tiffany. Ashley's changing stories didn't help the police. On the other hand, not reporting her disappearance to the police or telling Tiffany's family about it made him look suspicious, but I also doubt that he killed her. As for the police having no empathy towards Tiffany, that's probably true enough. Her criminal case history was enough to sour the milk of human kindness in that regard. When she ran off under the influence of drugs, she could have run into people that she had previously offended who took revenge on her or, in her muddled state, ran into a wilderness area and died of exposure. Nice use of the letter "S" when summing up the case. Thanks for sharing.

"Drug user" is like a magic Uno color change card for police: it can instantly make a person into suspect, a change true statement into a lie (or vice-versa, as necessary), and a victim of a crime into someone who wandered off, had consesual sex, was an equal participant, killed him or herself, or otherwise isn't in need of their attention. Exactly. All it would take would be for her to hitch a ride with the wrong person and then tell them what she’d just done, trying to leave before police arrived at the Walmart. It’s not like she’d be very picky about who she took a ride with, considering all. They’d know everything they needed to know about her from that and her behavior - intoxicated, on the run, and last seen running away from her crime, a history of shoplifting, history of drug use = lots of enemies and estranged family. Desperate. With an added built-in key for motivating her = addiction. Not the kind of woman they hold candlelight vigils for when they go missing. Hunters know their prey.

To add, though there are quite a few stores and restaurants right in that area, at that time - this was one of the only locations in the area that had 24-hr shopping and restaurants, BUT… kind of oddly, there is still to this day even a several large wooded areas surrounding that Walmart. Just off to the side and behind it there’s a very large dimly to non-lit wooded area definitely out of reach of any surveillance cameras and is non-residential. If I had to guess, he harmed her just a stone’s throw away from the exit where she was caught. Likely left her there and went to the IHOP right across the street and called for help collecting her remains and there’s several miles and many places where you could make someone disappear between that Walmart and Powder Springs. God, I hope they find her so her parents can have some peace. *This Walmart was in a pretty dicey area. My first thought watching this in the beginning was, she was begging to be caught shoplifting bc they canvas that store with security, especially that time of night. You see how those guys looked to be plain-clothed? I’m pretty sure they used to pay people under the table to work security during those hours back then. It’s possible she could have met with another demise that night… LOTS of sketchy characters around that area. She could have met with one seeking help, but picked someone that harmed her instead.

Didn't matter. They still tried to use it as a modifier to increase his sentence. That's not to say he didn't deserve it. He might deserve it. But no one ever proved he killed those people, so... 🤷

In desperation, panic, and drug induced psychosis Tiffany flees Walmart barefoot into the night. Within two minutes, or sooner, Tiffany encounters a predator out for the very purpose of picking up, sexually abusing, and murdering such a victim in a vulnerable state as Tiffany was. To me, that seems the most likely scenario. By sunrise, she was most likely dead, and her body concealed . . .disposed of within 12-24 hours far from Walmart. Being that Georgia is a real state with vast tracts of wilderness and farmland, it isn't hard to imagine she's buried in deep woods adjacent to farmland. Her disappearance is the culmination of events and timing in a perfect storm. Her abductor is most likely a highly organized serial killer with a good mask i.e. family, business owner, and community member who manages a large farm and whose absence in the dark hours of night and morning are not out of character. LE might begin to look at a pattern of disappeared women in similar situations in a 50-mile radius. Unfortunately, drug addicts are transient, anonymous, and low value . . .nobody's gonna miss them, or care.

I'm thoroughly convinced that Tiffany was sexually molested before 2 yrs old, and that's when she began to steal toys and act out. This is what happens when trauma is ignored and untreated. I think she met her demise, considering her altered state of mind, and in my opinion, Ashley was not involved.

we have a relative that lies constantly. I suppose most children will try out a lie to avoid any challenge to their bad behaviour, but her lying was never like that. She would lie about things that didn't matter. The best reason we can guess is that she isn't very bright (and knows it), so this behaviour is her way of trying to always seem cleverer than whoever she's talking to. She prefers to lie even when there is nothing to gain. She wasn't in an abusive family as a child, but she probably got into traumatic situations as an adult though none of her family are likely to find out the truth about anything. The constant lying has turned her into a person that most people would never willingly spend time with. She's in her mid 40s, so that's not going to change.

@@mandolyn You never know what goes on in another’s home. Even if you’re in that same home. Things can be hidden quite well, leaving others unsuspecting of what is really going on. Someone that is “born to lie” is often a psychopath. A true psychopath is rare. Bundy was the closest to that we have seen in recent times. This woman was not like Bundy. I found it odd that the Mother in this case said the child was taking things that were not hers at age two, yet in none of her statements, does she hold herself accountable as the parent. At two, a child often mimics what they see in their own homes. They’re just beginning the process of learning what it is to be in society - from their parents/caregivers.

I lived in Kennesaw, went to highschool there. I remember Tiffany before the drugs, even then she was always looking to get away from something in her personal life. She had briefly dated my cousin right after she dropped out, ended because they were both suspicious of each other all the time. Some of the things we thought was that her or Ashley owed someone alot of money so they ended up kidnapping her to sex traffic her to pay the debt (speculation, we honestly can only speculate because the investigation turned up little). Some thought to have the security guards looked into, a friend of mine pointed out if your going to make someone vanish at Walmart, these guys would know where to do it. It's not a stretch really, she had the potential to be a very sweet person between her addictive personality, hyper sexuality and story telling she just ended up being that person everyone talked about in whispers after she walked by, she was that girl everyone "knew" about.

Dr. G, idk it you'll see this but thanks for portraying this woman with dignity. Stating the facts of the case, which include seriouly unbecoming details about her, was relevant and needed to be said. But you managed to deliver it without a trace of disgust. The fact you chose to profile her at all speaks volumes about your compassion and understanding that addicts are human beings. As a former academic star turned crash victim turned addict, I deeply thank you for presenting this case. I'm certain she did horrible, ugly, things. I'm also certain she had unfulfilled potential. She didn't live long enough to find out who she could be sober. So when an addict dies, their loved ones grieve for THAT person. That potential. Who was lurking underneath the lying, stealing addict. The dirty truth about addiction is that no psychologically healthy, well-adjusted human being would EVER become a street addict. The lifestyle is total MISERY. It ages you. Fast. You lie. You steal. You do jail time. You HATE yourself THE ENTIRE TIME. And you do not have the brain function necessary to see the way out is to get help. It's obvious as hell to anyone, but in the midst you literally don't have any idea you can live a day without the drug. You believe you are a waste, a burden, a scourge, a criminal, and that's your fate. Healthy people do not put themselves in this position. Please remember we are humans and when we're using we are as disgusted as you are. But we don't believe in ourselves in any capacity and we are so, so sorry for what we are and how we hurt you.

I'm not fully understanding why she ran from the Wal-Mart. She only stole a pair of flip-flops; that wouldn't have amounted to huge punishment, and she'd been in enough trouble already to know this. Where did she go when she ran off? Obviously not back to where she was living with Ashley to wait for him there. She somehow vanished into thin air in a busy residential/retail neighborhood. That makes no sense. And despite their backgrounds, I feel sorry for Ashley getting the sentence for drug possession increased because they could not locate Tiffany to punish her for her own crime. I've never heard of dumping someone else's crime on top of another person just because they happened to be in the same air space as the disappeared criminal. It's not Ashley's fault that Tiffany ran - why does he have to pay with extra sentence time?

Tiffany , I believe, made have had an undiagnosed psychiatric disorder - and her rampant drug usage further exacerbated her personalproblems. The fact that she was poor and a drug user precluded her from being considered a likely 'missing white woman' , and also contributed to the indifference of police in trying to track down her. Also, her itinerant lifestyle and not bieng in one place at any one time , contributed to the police's inability to locate her - since it was already a cold case by the time they police found out about her disappearance.

I have several family members who are addicted to many different things. I love them, want them around, and would hope others could see past their flaws to remember they matter too. (Plus addicts can and do change sometimes)!

I liked your analysis better as straight talk... I find the silly rhyming very annoying and makes it seem a joke. These stories are not jokes.

I strongly believe Tiffany is alive. I believe the story from her half brother. She did call him. Drug addicted people are extremely erratic and unpredictable. A another man could of picked her up that night for sex and she could well be living with another man to help feed her drug addiction.

Keen to hear about your opinion of Harry / Gabor Mate. Is Mate on to something? It’s making me paranoid about the odd days my Mum has looked after my son.

20 years for selling meth(America's favorite drug)I'd petition for post conviction relief. Judge used false aggravating circumstances. Some states still believe they can arrest there way out of the drug war. That's expensive.

So sad she was a victim of her own bad behavior but she deserved as much from an investigation as anyone . I work with unhoused people, many lie, take what isn’t theirs and are severely addicted to drugs, they are still human beings, while they need to pay for the crimes they commit. No matter how ugly the behavior, they deserve the same rights as any of us. Omg the crack about sharing meth ? I am DEAD😂 humor helps EVERYONE!

I do believe Tiffany jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire. Whoever she ran into after fleeing the scene definitely may have took advantage of her desperate situation which unfortunately ended up in her demise. Ashley on the other hand I don't think he killed her they were partners in doing drugs together. He was probably high too that night at Walmart. That lifestyle if continued has no promising future. Sadly Tiffany didn't get a second chance to find that out. I really don't think she's alive after all this time. Ashley on the other hand will have plenty of time sitting in jail to overcome his addiction just by mere cold turkey. U can never trust druggies or alcoholics.

So now I know the proper word for what you've been doing at the end of your videos lately; Alliteration. This one was hauntingly poetic! Also loved your 'Final Thoughts, Dr. Grande! It makes those of us who don't suffer from substance abuse, pause, and have compassion for those who do! ♡♡

Interesting case and analysis, as usual, Dr. Grande! I love how you give all the details and your analysis in such a succinct way. The alliterative summation at the end makes it hard for me to get what your point is tho. I'm too caught up in the similar letters and don't get the message.

I really don't think under the circumstances it's at all surprising that Ashley didn't notify the police. Substance abusers with a criminal record are at risk of arrest if they go to law enforcement for anything. Also, Tiffany had a pending charge for shoplifting in addition to drug charges, so reporting her missing would probably not be appreciated.

I think you are missing the point, Dr Grande. Something must have been happening in that child's life before the age of 2, for her to be stealing toys. Something is not being revealed here. I think you should do a more in-depth analysis of the original parents. This is not normal behavior. And then, i wonder if it was a human-trafficking situation. Who steals flip flops they are like 2$. Maybe she was trying to get arrested to get out of the situation she was in. It sounds to me like the whole world failed her. I find this whole case very troubling. I hope you can do some deeper research. Thank you for bringing this to light. Please let us know what else you can find out.

I studied the Montessori philosophy and we learnt from observation that the stealing behaviour comes from an imbalance somewhere. While I worked with children I'd find that it was those that came from dysfunctional home that would demonstrate these deviations, esp the stealing part. Some adults dealt with these occurrences with alot of violence and shame, and that doesn't exactly fix it. They might obey out of fear for a while but the behaviour will return again if the underlying issues aren't addressed. Very sad actually.

It's not a lack of empathy. Adults have every right to disappear if they want. Police will look at the persons character and lifestyle and judge if a crime has been committed or if the missing person has made a choice to move away and start a new life. A lot of people do this, especially if they lead a chaotic life.

This is the first time I heard about this story. I am surprised there was not more publicity about Tiffany Whitton who although was attractive (at least from her pictures) was an extremely troubled woman. I agree with Dr. Grande - upon fleeing she encountered a very bad actor.
