You are an amazing teacher. I am in medical school, and I use your videos all the time. I have probably had to learn the cell cycle at least ten times, and I still have to re-learn it every time because there is always some critical piece missing. There is no point in sitting in hours and hours worth of lectures, learning the details of how each E3 ubiquitin protein ligase works if you do not have the basics down. Maybe the next time I have to learn the cell cycle, I will be ready for the details, thanks to your excellent tutorials. THANK YOU!

@sosweetss57 Great question. Organelles like the mitochondria and chloroplast will duplicate independently throughout the cell cycle. They have their own DNA and act autonomously. The other organelles can be constructed in the cell. After cytokinesis a cell will have fewer organelles in each half but they will quickly return to normal during Interphase.

First time I had about cells in school was about many years ago, I only actually understood the last bit about meiosis and mitosis "pairing together" like that when an infant is born. there is too many holes; you didn't say: that in G1 phase the cell creates more protein to grow back to its normal size after Telophase; S phase the Chromosomes AND ORGANELLES replicate to produce copies of themselves; G2 is where the cell prepares to seperate to produce 1 whole cell (with same content as the parent cell[where it came from])... theses points are very important if u want them to understand the Interphase and how it would linked to Telophase, this could also help them figure out that the whole process is continuous.

Just for anyone wanting to know, when the homologous pairs come together during prophase 1 of meiosis, that's called synapsis, but when they actually intertwine and swap bits, that's called chiasmata or chiasma. It comes up on a lot of exams :)

In the cell growth cycle, interphase is the entire part that occurs when mitosis is not happening. Interphase includes, Gap 1, which is when the cell is growing preparing for DNA replication, Synthesis-which is when DNA replication occurs, and Gap 2 phase-which happens when the cell is preparing for mitosis. The video shows interphase occuring before mitosis. During mitosis, yes the phases you listed are correct.

I love your videos man they are a great help for my college courses but you said that if you have Huntington's disease that you will die when your 40... This is a gross overstatement of the affect of that disease....My mother has been diagnosed with Huntington's and I have a 50/50 of getting it myself and let me tell you that you do not DIE when you turn 40 if you have Huntington's...As the disease advances, uncoordinated, jerky body movements become more apparent, along with a decline in mental abilities and behavioral symptoms will appear around that age depending on a large number of factors. If anything the real situation is worse than just death. Your brain turns into mush as the proteins in your brain are destroyed leaving you to live as a vegetable until you die. PLEASE pass this information along so people can be more aware.

+Jason Morris Sorry about your family condition. I do agree that the effects were a bit embellished, but just as a note, Huntington's is strictly genetic and can present itself at different stages of life (mostly between 30 and 50 years). If the onset is/was earlier in life, it is very possible to die at 40.
