Hey guys!! I’m going to try to post on Thursdays too! People ask about hyperpigmentation all the time and I worked really hard to clear my skin of it after I had a baby. It’s a process! Be gentle to your skin. The hyperpigmentation takes years to form, so don’t try to get rid of it quickly.

Skin turnover is 28-40 days. Depending on how deep the hyperpigmentation is in your dermal layers will depend on how long it takes to come to the surface. Susan, you should also explain the difference between chemical & physical spf sunscreens. Not all sunscreen is "created equal". Just because your make up or moisturizer has spf, doesn't mean you should skip actual spf sunscreen application & reapplication throughout the day & sun exposure you receive.

This is really informative, i've tried many products but none of them did the job... It's been nearly four years since I've started treating hyperpigmentation under my lower lip and it's been driving me insane... But I began doing DIY masks with turmeric, chickpea powder and rose water and I'm actually seeing results... I recommend it for anyone who doesn't have allergies to any of the ingredients. PS: it takes time, you have to exfoliate before putting the mask on, and you should do it twice a week.

I just would like to share...Differin gel gave me so many cystic acnes, big ones on top of each other. I continued using it for a 1.5 months coz the label says that it "can" cause breakouts at first before it clears out. But no way, never again. I used the full line up of Khiel's ( blue cleanser, Calendula toner, Vitamin C serum, breakout control blemish treatment, gel moisturizer and sunscreen) as suggested by the salesperson and my pimples subsided only after 2 months. Now I only have hyperpigmentation but it is slowly clearing up. It has been 4 months since I started using Khiel's products. Since the vitamin C serum is so expensive, I did the DIY Vitamin C serum I saw on youtube which, I feel, works wonders, too.

I never realized that my acne leaving dark spots was hyperpigmentation! I always assumed it was part of the healing process and was scarring from it! After I started using a Retin-a cream though I did notice a significant decrease in dark spots when I do get breakouts, and i've even noticed some very fine lines i have become less noticeable!

I’ve been using vitamin C with ferulic acid and E. I’m telling you my acne scars have faded and some just gone. It takes quite awhile to go away though. Literally month after month I was so mad that they were still there. It took like 6 months to start seeing a difference. ! And I used this acid gel wash from wishtrend. Just be patient. It works. I follow a 10 step program. I also use a skin resurfacing gel mask once a week.

Sumer Tatum-Clem by Timeless 20% CE and Fwrulic acid. I buy this refill size and I do refrigerate it. I bought this 9/18/19. I’m halfway through. So even though it’s something like $70, it’s a large bottle and it’s still clear and still works and it’ll take me through to March. So that is about $10/month. Just refrigerate it.

Nissira Patricia so this is more than 10 steps. cleanser is cosrx low ph good morning gel cleanser or Acwell ph balancing cleansing foam.. Then Pyunkang Yul moisture ampoule in my chest and lower neck. Then I use Acwell ph balancing toner. Then follow with I’m with Rice essence. THEN I’d use the vitamin C then coq10 after. I will dab on some Peach and Lily glass skin refining serum for added moisture. I use Make Prem hydrate me on my face. Nivea pure and natural on neck and chest. Then I use Hado Labo she correcting eye cream and after that soaks in I top it with a little Whamisa eye essence. FINALLY I use a sunscreen. I have like 8 so I switch out depending on the weather. Just started trying Klairs soft airy UV essence. Great for winter for sure. That’s daytime. At night I only add clean it zero for a double cleanse and right after I use Then (at night only) I use Klairs youth activating drops. Then the rest of my routine. It actually only takes me like 5 minutes. I’ve been doing this for over 2 years so I’m pretty speedy. I will try and do a mask 2-3 times a week and I use the Peach and Lily super reboot resurfacing mask once a week. Whew! If someone laid out this list to me I’d say they were crazy as hell. It really takes a little bit of time and the results are worth it. I wouldn’t do all of that if I saw nothing! Aren’t you glad you asked? Haha

I have age spots and malasma. I used pixi glow tonic as my aha, palmers skin success with hydroquinone, differin adapaline retinol gel, perricone md vitamin c esters serum, (will be trying the ordinary vitamin c next)neutrogena baby sunscreen with zinc,( yes its thick and white like baby diaper rash ointments but I'm pale enough that you dont see the whiteness on me and I'm allergic to the sun, I have polymorphic light eruption and chemical sunscreens burn my skin for some reason). I also use the cerave line of moisturizers. I use all these products daily, but before cerave, I had the retinol uglies with a wind burn,( ah love New York weather in winter.) Last year. Cerave healed my skin in days and I havent had dry skin since I started using it. I also use a hyaluronic acid serum, dont have a favorite. I didn't have the money to spend on high end products, so I went with things from the drug store that had active ingredients that everyone says work. And it did take time. A year. My malasma is now a pink color instead of brown, and it's easy to cover with makeup. My age spots are almost gone. And my aging skin looks younger. Not as many fine lines, is firmer, just looks healthier. So it can be done on a budget

I highly recommend The Ordinary's Vitamin C ... I buy the 100% L-Ascorbic Acid Powder from them and mix my own. It's so easy and then I can mix the strength I want and I mix small batches so it is always fresh and I don't have to worry about oxidation. Cerave makes great products and I use their day and night creams on a regular basis. The Ordinary also makes a great chemical exfoliator in their AHA 30%/BHA 2% Peel. Actually, The Ordinary makes some great products and they are very affordable. She recommends some very high-priced items in this video such as Drunk Elephant, Sunday Riley, Dr. Perricone ... and, even tho, I can afford those brands, I don't buy them because I can buy products with as good a quality for much less and save those $$ for fun makeup. I would also recommend Retin A (tretinoin) instead of retinol. A retinol has to go through 2 conversions to get to where Retin A starts out and you never know how much you are actually getting. For those who do not want to deal with a doc and prescription and insurance (most insurance won't cover Retin A unless it is for acne), then I recommend Curology ... they formulate a formula for you (the anti-aging formula generally contains tretinoin, niacinamide and azelaic acid) in strengths based on your answers to their questions and they send it to you every two months for $20 per month. The first month is free ... you only pay for shipping. And, because I am not wasting $$ on Drunk Elephant, Sunday Riley, etc. I am not feeling the crunch in spending the $20 per month for Retin A, which is the ONLY scientifically proven anti-aging product.

It is also a good idea to stop using retinol a few months before getting pregnant. I was advised by a obstetrician not to use it at all. I asked why and he said it does not have enough studies to show the long term effects on women's reproductive health. My sis, who is a Ped also advised me that it is safer to use an alternative so all of my sisters are now using bakuchiol. I think women go through enough with their bodies to consistently put something into our skins not fully knowing the effects, even though it is topical. I know retinol is the gold standard for hyperpigmentation and for absolutely beautiful skin but it can come with a long term cost.

I had kind of like your issue 1.5 years ago and decided I need to switch products. I started using R+F Reverse Brightening skin care regimen and after about 1 year I really saw results, my skin brightened up and most of my skin hyperpigmentation or sunspots went away, except for a few that are still there. I believe these remaining spots are from me picking up my hormonal one or two zits that i occassionally get. After watching this video i started using the liiyana retinol and sunday riley vit c. I do like them a lot and using them as alternate to my retinol vit c cream that comes with R+F reverse brightening. Angelina Carraway35 check out The Ordinary by Deciem, specifically products with vit C, niacinamide, and Alpha Arbutin as well as all their AHAs (acids). It’s very affordable. Also check out Gothamista’s YT channel for videos on this subject. She is very good at suggesting a wide of products at different price points. Best of luck! xx

Also invest in a good sunscreen there's lots of affordable ones out there you just have to find what works for you ♡ UV exposure worsens melasma and the treatments for melasma make skin more sensitive to UV rays so sun protection is important

Peggy Carter hi,can you recomend a brand name of retinol?alot of retinol in the market,i try twice to buy but none of them works
@sarahtorki45046 жыл бұрын
Angelina, try to buy a big leaf of organic Aloe Vera (in France it costs only 1 euro) - you basically put the gel straight from the plan onto to your melasma , every morning and night for as long as possible. I've been doing It for the past 4 months and mine has lightened tremendously. Consistency is key though ! But Aloe Vera DOES work :)

Try papaya, mulberry and glutathione even tone cream . It contains mulberry extract, papaya extract and vitamin c. It is effective in treating melasma, fading dark spots and treating acne. I use it as a body moisturizer. It is affordable too.

Hi! Can you recommend something for blackheads and open pores? ESP on the nose and cheeks
@marianazh91176 жыл бұрын
I've heard that you have to put salicylic acid(BHA) on the spot where you have blackheads, then wash it after 10 minutes, put some clay mask, and then some tightening serum to tighten your pores.
@zaria57856 жыл бұрын
I agree with everything the commenter above mentioned and if you don't have that serum to tighten pores try witch hazel- it works.
@sup86686 жыл бұрын
Zari A, I’be only heard of witch hazel for redness or irritation.

Rija Siddiqui, as someone said clay mask work really well, I recommend the Aztec clay mask. You can get it off Amazon for around $8-$9

I have hyper pigmentation since two months. I think it’s spreading on my face and neck. It has covered my forehead. The skin specialist has given glycolic and a Azelaic acid but not others that you have mentioned.

The moment I heard hydroquinone I stopped watching. I used it before and it was magical without needing to do anything else. But guess what it doesn't last. The moment you stop your skin will turn dark again and possibly worst. It took me a yr of quitting to finally go back to my old normal. Yes, your skin is beautiful but I would love to know how u do without hydroquinone.
@dokidoki7195 жыл бұрын
Yes! The same thing happened with me. I was stubborn and kept on using it whenever the spots came back. Then my skin started looking waxy and strange. Now it’s okay I guess but to see someone promoting such an ingredient when alternatives like kojic acid exists baffles me.

So glad I found you, everything you said is so informative and helpful! I have Melasma and it sucks because I always have to wear a FULL coverage foundation. I have been using the Dr Dennis gross peel pads and so far so good, but I’ll definitely go buy vitamin C and a retinol. Thank you!!

I had hyperpigmentation on my upper lip and I got laser hair removal and it got rid of the pigmentation on the first treatment. You have to wear sun screen for life afterwards because it will come back with the sun.

Thank you for this clip. It was very informative and just what I was looking for. I have one concern, though, about Lily Ana's retinol cream - soo tempted to buy it but I read on one of Amazon's reviews that it uses phenoxyethanol and that this is used in place for paraben and that it's toxic to the body even in small doses. I'm wondering if this is really true?? Any thoughts?? I feel like this cream could be the perfect one for me to use but I'm just afraid of what I read....I'd appreciate any comments!
