Now, this was a pleasant surprise! When I listened to it on bass guitar and noted that the low end wasn't folding or distorting, that was the ticket. I knew that this was a good unit. Nothing bums me out about cheap tube gear more than when they distort the low end in an unpleasant way. Thank you for putting this unit through its paces!

And the same with the guitar, it really brings out the warmth and ambiance of the instrument. I'm surprised how well it did with the different pieces. Well done Dave, thank you, you rock!!!!!!!

Hey Uncle Dave!!!!! I had a chance to watch and listen and my first reaction was, DAMN that snare SLAPS!!! The depth, tonality and richness was emphasized greatly, really front and center👍 As far as Bass, it was okay, well rounded and punchy. But on vocals...... It SHINES!!!! There's a reason why this is THE go to for vocals. Nicely done Warm Audio, I would really consider adding this to my vocal chain. Thank you!!!!!

I have the 1st version WA87 mic and i absolutely love it. Have had it for several years with no issues. Am planning on investing in more Warm Audio gear. Especially a WA73 and the WA1B. Thanks for doimg this review. Would love to hear a comparison with the CL-1b plugins! Awesome review here

I personally have had no issues with my Warm Audio gear. Two WA-412 and two WA273 mic pres along with a stereo pair of their WA-84 small condenser mics. I've has one pair of the WA-412 and WA-273 pres for 5 years with no issues, and I got the WA-84 mics shortly after they were released. The mics are my go-to drum overhead mics and also for acoustic instruments.

I really do like this compressor. I think a lot of the other gear channels have compared this thing to death. To me, it's not so much about if it sounds like the plugin but more if it's a good compressor on its own. Seems like this is pretty good for the money. Thanks for the video! Only WA gear I have is a WA87 microphone and it's been rock solid as my go-to vocal mic for 5 years.

Great review! It's nice to hear this on its own merits rather than compared to the Tube Tech. It doesn't have to be an exact copy to be a good tool, and it def sounds like worthwhile compressor to add to the toolbox.

I think snare is where it really shines in my opinion. I would use this as a snare compressor while recording or during mixing for the snare only. But for a drum bus I wouldn’t use a pair of these, many other things I’d use like the SSL G comp. I own a wa-47 jr ldc mic and it’s fantastic. I’ve used other gear from them, and I think the quality is fine; but it’s the sound quality that suffers for me with a lot of warm audio gear.

Hi Dave! Great video as always! I do have Warm Audio gear. I have the WA76 which I used to track bass in the past and I've been using recently on an electric piano (Rhodes or Wurlitzer). I also have the WA-412, WA-273EQ and three WA12 500 modules. The WA12s are my favorite for tracking guitars (acoustic and electric) and I use the WA-273EQ and WA-412 to record drums. Would you replace your usual snare, vocal or acoustic guitar compressor with the WA1B or would you stick to what you have been using instead? Did you get impressed enough to keep it in your rack? CHeers!

Yes, I am keeping it in the rack

Hey brother, always amazing info! I tested this in person, at Namm, and it really surprised me in a very positive way, especially coupled next to their neve 1073 clone. I think that with this compressor and a good pre with eq anyone can get killer vocal tone! The question I have is, I think with the distressor I can get the same result. I would like to see you test the warm cl1 b against the real thing and Aldo against the Stan cl1b, they just put out a 500 series that looks amazing

I dont have access to a real CL1b or the Stam version. You can watch at least 10 other channels that have already done the real CL1B comparison.

Hey Dave, what’s up? Is Eric quick question when you got that console I noticed that it does not come with the dynamic section compresses how do you get past? What do you use for your dynamic section or if I was to purchase the same origin board? how can I get a SSL dynamic section?
@MixingMusicAnalog3 ай бұрын
I have several SSL EDynamics 500 series modules I can insert on any channel. What I found after mixing on a console, you dont need dynamics on every channel. I dont compress EVERYTHING. There is no need to do that. Therefore, I dont need a compressor on all 32 channels.
