This was Oct. 20, 2018 at the Orange Amps event at the Music Fair (for instrument makers, dealers, etc.) held at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center. Miyako played "Above the Black Sea", "Shadowmaker", and "Parisienne Walkways". There was a "Parisienne Walkways" boom in Japan in 2014 when the song was used in the short program by Japanese male figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu on his way to a gold medal at the Winter Olympics. The TV broadcaster in Japan and the Japanese Olympic team were inundated by requests from viewers for info about the song. Btw, Miyako's birthday is April 5, Gary Moore's April 4 (very different years, needless to say).

I wonder if the time difference between Japan and Belfast would put their birthdays on the same day if converted to UTC.

@@CrYou575 Japan is +9 UTC. I guess it would depend on what time of day Miyako and Gary were born.

Miyako's guitar is also highly modified by herself. I am not a guitarist, I'm just refering to a video Miyako did about her guitar on her KZbin channel. She changed to Fishman pickups, converted the guitar from passive to active and experimented a lot with the capacitors to get the right sound. 🤘🐺🤘

Gary Moore was an amazing guitarist, not only the bluesman most people know (it actually came rather late in his career) but also great in jazz, metal and even classical music (some of his best solo are inspired by classical music). No wonder she recognized a twin soul in the great irishman.

I ADORE this performance. I’ve played it loads of times. Miyako is very faithful to the original (which had vocals by the late, lamented legend of Thin Lizzy, Phil Lynott). Gary himself would often milk the song for almost twice it’s original length, but always, always adding something, not just playing for playing’s sake. For example, just after your last pause, there’s a held feedback note. Gary became infamous for making it hang for an eternity. Miyako’s performance has no showboating…just pure emotion. And they call her the ice queen. Nothing could be further from the truth. She’s just not flash or showy and sees no value in grinning like a Cheshire Cat….that and her vibrato are both Blackmore traits she’s picked up from her subliminal programming by her mom!

Love it! Miyako is my favorite of the two. She can shred with the best but she is a tad better at bringing out the emotion on a guitar. She could make me cry if she wanted with her playing.

I would also suggest looking at Taj Farrant play this song. The first time I heard him play Parisienne Walkways he was 10 and he recently did it again at his ripe old age of 13. He says he sometimes cries when he plays because he feels the music. I just know I like watching him.

I wouldn't really call Miyako a "Virtuoso", she is a great guitarist and pianist but not virtusolo level at all. The cover is alright, felt robotic, playing like this could work for fast shreddy stuff but doesn't work so much with Gary Moore style melodic slow playing
