Avoid catcher injuries AND have them close enough to the batter.

You don't want your catcher's getting injured, but you also don't want them so far back that your pitcher doesn't get strikes. This video will show you the best way to help youth catcher's know where to set up on each pitch.

When I'm working behind the plate there's two things that get me worried. 1: the catcher is too far forward and is gonna get hit (I've had to call catcher interference before, and trust me I was more worried for the catcher than about giving the girl a base), and 2: the catcher being too far back and I'm going to start missing pitches because I'm so far away from the zone it's uncomfortable. I appreciate you making this video because it shows to me that you can still care about player safety and give them the best chance of being successful.

I used to reach forward for the ball a couple years ago, my parents noticed it. I don't do that anymore but I guess I was lucky back then to not get hit.

As a catcher I usually just line up my glove near the back knee/foot of the batter and aim my glove low. Never been hit by the bat in a swing but sometimes I get hit by a flung bat. It really doesnt hurt. Also I never fully extend my arm As to not get hit.

I’m a 13U and I am a catcher. I am nervous all the time that someone will hit me😂 Thank you for this video. Any tips on if the batter is so incredibly tall? Should I just be safe or should I just see

We just pitched to a 7 foot batter last week. My suggestion. Set up as a catcher no different than an average batter. (don't try to pitch higher) Maybe go out to the pitcher and tell them. "Don't try to pitch to this guy differently. Just pitch like he's a regular size player." Same for the small guy. For safety, the taller guy is no more likely than any other batter to hit you if you keep your glove behind the batter's back foot. Their body proportions don't change.
